Race 1: SKY RACING C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE - 1350m
1st – Huxtable 2nd – Excellent Al 3rd – Casino Gardens 4th – Not Without Sin
OUTBACK BIFF (G. Colless) and LEO JET (M. Hellyer) brushed on jumping away.
PATENT PENDING (B. Stewart) lost its footing on jumping away.
MASTER CARTER (C. Munce), POPULAR BELIEF (J. Stanley) and SVETSKI (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.
Near the 700m MULTIPLE (C. Pye) was steadied when tightened for room between EXCELLENT (L. Cassidy) and LEO JET, which was taken in slightly by SVETSKI.
J. Stanley reported that POPULAR BELIEF was inclined to lay out from leaving the 600m.
When asked to explain the performance of OUTBACK BIFF, G. Colless said the horse travelled well throughout, however when asked for an effort in the home straight the gelding failed to respond and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer R. Heathcote was at a loss to explain the performance, however agreed with the comments of jockey Colless. Mr Heathcote undertook to advise stewards of anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of OUTBACK BIFF revealed no significant findings.
CASINO GARDENS (J. Lloyd) lost its near hind plate in running.
LIFTING BENNY (T. Bell) lost its off fore plate in running.
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to SLOW 6 retrospective.
Race 2: HIDDEN DRAGON @ LYNDHURST F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1350m
1st – Hold Me Tight 2nd – Elusive Storm 3rd – Lassila 4th – Baroness Zeena
As C. Maund was ill, D. Robinson was substituted as the rider of ALMASEA.
ALMASEA (D. Robinson) was very slow to begin.
CHRISTINE (J. Stanley) was tightened for room at the start between BARONESS ZEENA (T. Bell), which was taken out by PLAYSOVA (M. Vance), and PERFECT CUBE (J. Byrne), which was taken in by MOOCHIN (D. Browne).
Shortly after the start DIAMOND LIFE (R. McMahon) and GREEN CASHMERE (M. Cahill) came together and bumped.
ELUSIVE STORM (S. Galloway) overraced during the middle stages.
Near the 800m both HOLD ME TIGHT (C. Munce) and THE SINGING BULLET (R. Myers) were tightened for room when racing to the inside of ELUSIVE STORM, which shifted in and away from BARONESS ZEENA, resulting in THE SINGING BULLET having to be steadied.
BARONESS ZEENA and PLAYSOVA raced wide throughout.
THE SINGING BULLET, which commenced to overrace during the middle stages, improved up on to the heels of ELUSIVE STORM and was steadied. DIAMOND LIFE, which was following, was inconvenienced as a consequence.
Near the 400m THE SINGING BULLET shifted out in order to improve, forcing PLAYSOVA wider on the track.
Inside the final 100m HOLD ME TIGHT shifted in and made contact with ELUSIVE STORM.
A post-race veterinary examination of GREEN CASHMERE, which commenced to weaken from the 400m, revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 3: COKE ZERO BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Rodriguez 2nd – Devils Melody 3rd – Embraer 4th – Fusette
PICCOLO DYNASTY (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of TAPIKI (T. Bell). PICCOLO DYNASTY became unbalanced as a consequence.
ENCINITAS (M. Cahill) raced extremely wide throughout.
PICCOLO DYNASTY was held up for clear running from the 450m until near the 200m.
R. McMahon, the rider of 3rd placegetter EMBRAER, was reminded of his obligation to ensure he rides his mounts out to the end of the race.
A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA FIGHTER (C. Pye), which finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer D. Gardiner was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next start.
TAPIKI lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 4: YELLOWGLEN CLASS 6 PLATE - 1110m
1st – Dee Bee Nine 2nd – Tunahog 3rd – Bondarchuk 4th – Alltherightmoves
Trainer K. Schweida advised stewards that it would be the intention to have AKBAR MAHAL (T. Bell) settle further back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Apprentice R. Myers, the rider of ALLTHERIGHTMOVES, was severely reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in near the 800m when not sufficiently clear, resulting in PRETTY COMPOSED (J. Lloyd) and TRILLIUM (A. Hearn) being tightened for room.
Approaching the 200m BONDARCHUK (C. Munce) laid in under pressure and brushed with TUNAHOG (B. Stewart), causing BONDARCHUK to become unbalanced.
BONDARCHUK bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that as this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, it will incur a lifetime bar from racing.
A post-race veterinary examination of ALLTHERIGHTMOVES (R. Myers), which travelled wide during the early and middle stages, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: DARLEY AUSTRALIA QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1110m
1st – Better Than Ready 2nd – Snipzu 3rd – Lady Colours 4th – Gibberer
Trainer K. Schweida advised stewards that it would be the intention for BETTER THAN READY (R. McMahon) not to lead. The horse was ridden in a rearward position.
As D. Robinson was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of HEARTFELT QUEST. Subject to any further submissions from D. Robinson, a fine of $100 will be imposed.
Trainer H. Page was advised that a warning was being placed on PERFECT GLORY (C. Munce), which was difficult to load.
TRALFAZ (D. Browne) and FINAL IMPRESSION (J. Lloyd) made heavy contact on jumping away.
SIPPIN’BUNDY (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.
TRALFAZ and FINAL IMPRESSION raced wide throughout.
Near the 800m TRALFAZ commenced to overrace and was tightened for room between HEARTFELT QUEST (J. Byrne) and TEN GAUGE which shifted in. Although stewards were mindful of the racing characteristics of TRALFAZ, G. Colless (TEN GAUGE) was nonetheless advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
PERFECT GLORY wanted to hang out rounding the turn near the 700m.
A post-race veterinary examination of TRALFAZ, which performed below market expectations, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: IONA COLLEGE BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP - 2200m
1st – Eureka Jack 2nd – Dolly Dolly 3rd – Moment To Remember 4th – Borehole
KELTIC HONOUR was a late scratching at 1.19 p.m. after stewards acceded to a request by trainer F. Braybrook to scratch the horse due to the downgrading of the track to SLOW 6.
SAINT SAIALA (J. Lloyd) began very awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with DOLLY DOLLY (R. Myers).
MAGNUM (M. Cahill) had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of BOREHOLE (A. Erhart) over the final 100m.
Race 7: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES 0MW H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Beseech 2nd – Arado 3rd – Preacher Boy 4th – Endless Shadow S
At the start MISS BRADBURY (J. Lloyd) and MAGIC SHUFFLE (P. Hammersley) were checked and RELEASED (M. Vance) and BY CHOICE (R. Myers) were hampered when THEGREATANDTHEGOOD (R. Hurdle) shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
DE BOIS (E. Wilkinson) raced ungenerously during the early stages.
Apprentice C. Pye, the rider of SCHRAPNEL GULLY, was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in near the 800m, tightening the running of BESEECH (J. Stanley), COURALLIE STAR (K. Matheson) and THEGREATANDTHEGOOD. In this incident ARADO (C. Munce), which was following, shifted out and in doing so carried KEEP IT MOIST (P. Holmes) and BY CHOICE wider on the track. KEEP IT MOIST and BY CHOICE were then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
J. Stanley, the rider of BESEECH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 750m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of COURALLIE STAR, forcing that runner in on to THEGREATANDTHEGOOD, causing THEGREATANDTHEGOOD to make contact with the running rail, become unbalanced and lose its rightful running. J. Stanley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Monday, 1 October, and expire at midnight on Tuesday, 9 October 2012.
Leaving the 500m DE BOIS made contact with BY CHOICE and became unbalanced.
J. Byrne, the rider of MARCULOO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 450m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of ENDLESS SHADOW (R. Wiggins), forcing that runner out across the rightful running of DE BOIS, resulting in DE BOIS being tightened for room between ENDLESS SHADOW and BY CHOICE and falling, dislodging E. Wilkinson. J. Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 weeks, with the term to commence at midnight on Sunday, 7 October, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 28 October 2012. Following the event DE BOIS underwent a veterinary examination which revealed the gelding had sustained multiple lacerations.
On entering the straight MISS BRADBURY (J. Lloyd), which improved up on to the heels of COURALLIE STAR, had to be checked and then was held up for a short distance when awkwardly placed close to that runner’s heels.
RELEASED was momentarily held up on entering the straight.
Stewards intend to interview trainer W. Pholi regarding the disappointing performance of MAGIC SHUFFLE.
Apprentices M. Vance and R. Myers were issued with reprimands for being late out of the jockeys’ room to take their rides.
