EL TORANADO (R. McMahon) and CHOSEN IDOL (G. Colless) made contact at the start.
NOT SO SOBER (P. Hammersley) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SIR MOMENTS (M. Cahill), which in turn shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of SKYTASTIC (M. Rodd).

Near the 300m, SIR MOMENTS, when angling for a run between ARCHITECT and CHOSEN IDOL, shifted out slightly, coming into contact with CHOSEN IDOL.
CASINO BELLE (C. Munce) raced 3 wide throughout.
When questioned, P. Hammersley stated that NOT SO SOBER raced very greenly and when placed under pressure approaching the home turn failed to respond and weakened in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of NOT SO SOBER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Cellarbrations Lancaster Stakes - 1200m
Connections advised that SHE’S A DANICA would be ridden in a midfield position if possible from the wide barrier. SHE’S A DANICA settled towards the rear of the field.

MESMEREYESER overraced in the early and middle stages when racing 3 wide without cover.
MISSY LONGSTOCKING (D. Browne) and NAVELINA (E. Wilkinson) raced 3 wide throughout the race.
Stewards asked trainer G. Heinrich to explain the riding tactics adopted today on SHIRAZ ATTACK, which appeared to be in contrast to its first start in a race where it led. Mrs Heinrich stated on that occasion the horse was ridden forward purely on the basis that the rail was a long way out that day and felt it would be a considerable disadvantage to race back in the field. She added that today it was the stable’s intention to allow SHIRAZ ATTACK to find its feet in the early stages and these were the instructions issued to the rider. Stewards reminded trainer G. Heinrich of her obligations under AR135A, which place a responsibility on her to advise them of any intention to vary riding tactics.
Race 3: Channel Seven F&M H'cap – 1110m
Trainer B. Baldwin was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for THE RIGHT ONE by the prescribed time.
Trainer D. Forster was interviewed regarding the disappointing performance of DREAM’N’IGNITE on a heavy track last week. She advised that the horse had recovered well and expected a forward showing on today’s firm track.
LIESELE, which had some swelling on the off side neck, which appeared to be bite mark, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer) and DREAM’N’IGNITE (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.
After travelling a short distance, FANCIFUL (C. Munce) was inclined to lay in and as a result had to be steadied from the heels of LIESELE (D. Browne).
FANCIFUL (C. Munce) overraced in the early stages.
ERVBEFEL (R. McMahon) overraced approaching and the rounding the first turn and when being restrained got its head in the air.
After passing the 800m, THE RIGHT ONE (P. Hammersley) commenced to hang out and had to be steadied from the heels of OFF AND LAUGHING (J. Byrne). THE RIGHT ONE continued to hang out in the middle stages and shifted wider on the track. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that THE RIGHT ONE must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination of THE RIGHT ONE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Approaching the finish line, PURE PURRFECTION (R. Wiggins) had to be steadied and alter course when FUNTANTES (P. Schmidt) shifted in. P. Schmidt, rider of FUNTANTES, was reprimanded.
M. Cahill was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of DREAM’N’IGNITE. He stated that after being slow to begin he was forced to race in the second half of the field and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the mare’s performance as the mare does not stretch out or travel well when positioned behind other runners.
Race 4: Carlton Mid Lord Mayor’s Cup – 1600m
Passing the 1000m, ZENNISTA (J. Riddell) shifted out, forcing VOILA ICI (L. Nolen) wider on the track. VOILA ICI raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

Leaving the 400m, SHAMARDASHING (T. Bell) had to be steadied when tightened for room by VOILA ICI, which was taken in momentarily by BIGGLES, which was tiring.
DANAGAZE (A. Spinks) raced 3 wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of BIGGLES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Hidden Dragon The Roses - 2000m
Connections advised that SOAPY STAR would be ridden further back in the field from the awkward barrier.
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by R. McLeod, rider of the 2nd placegetter, GONDOKORO, against DEAR DEMI being declared the winner alleging interference from the 1600m. It was established that near the 1600m, GONDOKORO did have to be checked when tightened for room onto the running rail when racing to the inside of FANTISHA (T. Bell), which shifted in slightly. As stewards were of the opinion that DEAR DEMI (L. Nolen) remained 3 wide throughout this incident and did not apply pressure to FANTISHA, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. SOAPY STAR (N. Hall) got its head down as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.
GONDOKORO (R. McLeod) was severely hampered at the start between WATERFORD (L. Innes) and VAQUERA (M. Rodd), which shifted out.
After passing the 1600m, NEVER DISPAIR (R. McMahon) shifted away from MAGIC IN MOTION (G. Colless) and made heavy contact with the running rail and lost ground.
At the same stage, KAZANLUK (D. Browne) also had to be checked after improving up on to the heels of FANTISHA (T. Bell). KAZANLUK then shifted out, severely hampering CATALONIA (M. Cahill).
Near the 1500m, EXPRESS POWER (J. Cassidy) had to be steadied when tightened for room between ZOMBIE DANCER (N. Evans) and GERMAYNE LASS (R. Wiggins), which shifted out around the heels of ANTARCTIC DREAM (P. Hammersley). R. Wiggins, rider of GERMAYNE LASS, was issued with a reprimand.
B. Evans, rider of ZOMBIE DANCER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of EXPRESS POWER (J. Cassidy), resulting in that horse being taken in on to DOLPHUS (C. Munce), resulting in that horse being severely checked. VAQUERA (M. Rodd), which was trailing, also had to be checked as a consequence. B. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 12 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 May and to expire at midnight, 9 June. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the severity of the interference and the stature of the race.
KAZANLUK (D. Browne) overraced in the middle stages.
Rounding the home turn, JUST AS COSMIC (Y. Ichikawa) was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of FANTISHA (T. Bell).
Near the 300m, ZOMBIE DANCER (B. Evans) had to be steadied when tightened for room between MAGIC IN MOTION (G. Colless) and EXPRESS POWER (J. Cassidy), which shifted in under pressure. J. Cassidy, rider of EXPRESS POWER, was issue with a reprimand and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
Over the final stages, JUST AS COSMIC shifted in under pressure, resulting in SOAPY STAR (N. Hall) being taken inwards.
When asked to explain the disappointing performance of CATALONIA, M. Cahill stated that after he met with interference near the 1500m, his mount travelled comfortably in the middle stages, but when placed under pressure after passing the 500m, did not respond to his riding and soon after straightening he was not comfortable with the filly’s action and he eased CATALONIA down in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of CATALONIA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will interview trainer L. Treloar regarding the matter.
A post race veterinary examination of EXPRESS POWER revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for EXPRESS POWER prior to its next race start.
Race 6: Grinders Coffee Frd Best Classic - 1350m
When asked about the seemingly disappointing performance of AL ANEED, L. Cassidy stated that the horse raced too strongly through the middle stages and, as a result was not able to finish the race off. It was his opinion that the horse would be better suited over 1200m.
SALUTER (D. Browne) overraced in the middle stages.
Near the 700m, PLATINUM KINGDOM (J. Riddell), when overracing, shifted out from the heels of DANCES ON STARS (M. Walker), which resulted in SALUTER (D. Browne), which was following, being tightened for room between PLATINUM KINGDOM and AL ANEED (L. Cassidy).
BOBAN (L. Innes) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until near the 150m.
LILLIBRULERO (T. Bell), EXIMIUS (B. Rawiller) and AL ANEED (L. Cassidy) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 7: Kirks Doomben Cup - 2000 m
As S. Arnold was currently suspended, M. Cahill was substituted as the rider of FIBRILLATION.
LIGHTINTHENITE (N. Hall) and ZABEELIONAIRE (S. Baster) overraced in the early stages.
Near the 1400m when the pace steadied, HIPPOPUS (C. Munce) shifted out, taking LIGHTS OF HEAVEN (L. Nolen) wider on the track. HIPPOPUS progressed forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1200m.

HOT SNITZEL was declared a late scratching at 3.33 pm on veterinary advice after it was found to be lame in the off hind leg.
KING SAUL (S. Baster) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, STEEL ZIP (B. Stewart) shifted in and made contact with SEE THE WORLD (N. Hall), resulting in SEE THE WORLD being forced in towards the running rail. B. Stewart was advised to show greater regard for his fellow riders when shifting ground in future.
MAHISARA (J. Cassidy), READY TO RIP (L. Nolen), MORNING CAPTAIN (J. Byrne) and GREEN BIRDIE (M. Walker) raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn, FIRE UP FIFI (R. Wiggins) was held up for clear running.
For some distance approaching and passing the 200m, FIRE UP FIFI (R. Wiggins) was disappointed for a run between WAR ENDS (T. Bell) and FAMOUS SEAMUS (G. Colless).
STARTSMEUP (R. McMahon) was held for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
Stewards sought an explanation from N. Hall regarding the disappointing performance of SEE THE WORLD. N. Hall stated that the gelding never travelled comfortably and was inclined to lay out for a major part of the race.
G.Colless reported that FAMOUS SEAMUS put in an awkward stride near the 1200m and became unbalanced, and following this incident did not travel as comfortably as it has in previous starts. A post race veterinary examination of FAMOUS SEAMUS revealed the horse to be suffering from the thumps.
A post race veterinary examination of PHELAN READY revealed the horse to be suffering from heat stress.
