QUEENSLAND TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 26.02.00

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S Railton (Chairman), Mr A Reardon, Mr C Clifford, Mr W Flynn, Mr W Geggie, Mr R Sanders

WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK – GOOD RAIL – OUT 5M ALL TRACK

RACE 1: JAMESON’S IRISH WHISKEY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP – 1200M

Trainer J Wallace was fined $50 for presenting DYNAMIC LOVE in the incorrect gear.

EDUARDO, HOROWITZ, REPSHOT and ELITE AND POWER were slow to begin.

BRAVE HAWK blundered as the start was effected.

DYNAMIC LOVE jumped inwards at the start, inconveniencing BALETE DRIVE.

A veterinary examination of NONEDIYM NOODLES, which compounded badly in the straight and eventually tailed off, revealed that filly to be shin sore in both forelegs.

RACE 2: AUSTRALIA SELF STORAGE STRATHPINE H’CAP – 1200M

On the home turn SUPPLE became unbalanced after receiving contact from MAKE MINE MAGIC which shifted out.

RACE 3: BAILEYS IRISH CREAM H’CAP – 1826M

NO INCIDENTS

RACE 4: GUINNESS AUSTRALIA H’CAP – 1300M

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that KAIMIOLA was suffering from acute heat stress following the event.

RACE 5: QUEENSLAND IRISH ASSOCIATION H’CAP – 1200M

When steadied on the first turn TENUOUS was inclined to shift ground outwards, forcing REVENUE RAISER and MARDUK wider.

REAL SAY suffered a bleeding attack during the event. As this was the first time that REAL SAY had bled, the gelding will incur a mandatory 3-month ban from racing.

RACE 6: GILSHENAN & LUTON PLATE – 1500M

SEA BREEZE was a late withdrawal at 10.02 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.

As J Pollard, who injured his right foot during his ride on JUMUQUA in Race 3, was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club’s medical officer, the following riding replacements were approved:

As the start was effected BASS STRAIT veered abruptly towards the outside across the heels of OUR PARTNER and SURE SIGN, resulting in BASS STRAIT losing considerable ground. Trainer B Mayfield-Smith was advised that BASS STRAIT must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier test prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of BASS STRAIT failed to reveal any abnormality.

Passing the 200m BERN RETURN was inconvenienced by SILENT ASSASSIN which shifted in under pressure.

RACE 7: HANWOOD CHARDONNAY H’CAP – 1300M

BRILLIANCE jumped out at the start, inconveniencing CHARAME.

PAIR jumped in at the start, hampering OVER THE RANGE and OUR BANKER.

Approaching the 1100m KILAMANJARO lost ground when tightened for room between CENTRE FORCE, which shifted out, and OUR BANKER, which was taken in by PAIR.

Approaching the 1000m, OVER THE RANGE had to be steadied off the heels of SOLAR RANCH which shifted in.

At the 1000m CENTRE FORCE ran up on to the heels of PRINCE PATRICK and had to be checked. At the same stage OUR BANKER commenced to race fiercely at the heels of BRILLIANCE and shifted out, hampering PAIR, which was checked when taken across the heels of SPY KING.

At the 800m OVER THE RANGE shifted out taking STAGE out on to SOLAR RANCH which as a consequence had to be steadied away from the heels of PAIR.

IT’S A GUN shifted out and bumped KILAMANJARO at the 500m.

Over the concluding stages M Privato was prevented from being able to use his whip to best advantage when racing tight inside BIG TIMER.

RACE 8: WATERFORD CRYSTAL H’CAP – 1400M

AUSSIE MORNING was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to start.

GOOD HEALTH jumped out at the start and made contact with PHAROS’ RULER.

BRAVE MAC raced awkwardly at the heels of METAL MERCHANT for some distance in the middle stages.

BRAVE MAC was then hampered by AUSSIE MORNING which shifted out at the 500m.

A Bailey and C Maund were questioned regarding the tactics adopted on FOREST FLASH in today’s event. C Maund stated that from the wide alley he was instructed to make the horse begin and take up a slightly more prominent position around 4th or 5th. He added that as the start was effected FOREST FLASH began tardily and that in attempting to carry out instructions he rode FOREST FLASH with some aggression which resulted in the horse becoming fired up. Trainer A Bailey confirmed the instructions and advised that it was never intended to ride the gelding so close to the pace, however circumstances dictated otherwise.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
