WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL -
RACE 1: COPPERAMA H'CAP - 1000M.
DANCING MAN, NORTHERN FORTUNE and HESSVEE were slow to begin.
RACE 2: ZEPHYR ZIP H'CAP - 1200M.
When questioned, S. Katsidis stated that whilst he was obliged to race wide throughout the event, JUST AWE was under pressure prior to the home turn and failed to respond. A veterinary examination of JUST AWE failed to reveal any abnormality.
A swab sample was taken from 2nd placegetter, BAAL YABBA.
RACE 3: ROYAL PAREE H'CAP - 1200M.
Near the 300m., STORM PRINCESS shifted out from behind the heels of FAIR DECREE and made contact with RHELL LOVE.
At the 200m., RHELL LOVE had to be steadied to avoid the heels STORM PRINCESS, which continued to shift ground. Apprentice M. Rodd, rider of STORM PRINCESS, was advised to exercise more care in future.
A veterinary examination of RHELL LOVE following the event revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration to the outside of the off fore pastern.
RACE 4: REGAL ADVICE H'CAP - 2100M.
No incidents.
RACE 5: ANCHOR IN SUPER QRIS STAKES H'CAP - 1800M.
As M. Smith-Lester was indisposed, M. Carson was substituted as the rider of THESPIAN PRINCE, and J. Byrne as the rider of LA PHILOMENE (Race 7).
G. Baker was also indisposed and replaced by J. Taylor as the rider of SUPER IMPRINT.
Passing the 1600m., I'M A CRACKER had to be restrained off the heels of ACTION FRONT and again approaching the 1400m..
I'M A CRACKER shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring HIGHLY DANGEROUS near the 250m. and made contact with OSCA ERIC.
Trainer N. Cowell and jockey S. Katsidis were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HIGHLY DANGEROUS. S. Katsidis stated that the gelding began well, relaxed after travelling a short distance when racing outside the leader. He added however that when the pace quickened, HIGHLY DANGEROUS was unable to accelerate and failed to finish the race off. Miss Cowell stated that in view of the disappointing performance of HIGHLY DANGEROUS today, it was now her intention to spell the gelding immediately.
RACE 6: ROMANTIC DREAM H'CAP - 1600M.
KAHOOLAWE was forced to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 7: LUSKIN STAR H'CAP - 1400M.
On arrival at the track, GARUDA PRINCE was inspected by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to have sustained a minor laceration to the near hind pastern. GARUDA PRINCE was passed fit to start.
CONAIR began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with RULENZA ROAD.
Approaching the 600m., when attempting to ease to the outside of the heels of PITCH BLACK, ANIMATE made contact with PEGUNNY STAR, which improved quickly to its outside and as a result ANIMATE had to be checked.
Near the 250m., BLAKEHURST had to be checked to avoid the heels of the tiring CELESTIAL SPRINTER.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ANIMATE, S. Katsidis stated that the gelding began well and with the fast early pace he elected to take a sit behind the leaders. He added that after receiving a check near the 600m., ANIMATE was reluctant to improve and was disappointing over the final 200m.. Trainer J. Wallace stated that ANIMATE may have come to the end of its preparation and that he would review the horse's current program. A swab sample was taken from ANIMATE following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: SCOMELD H'CAP - 1300M.
After leaving the 700m., both SEAWELL and BAD HAIR DAY had to be checked off the heels of runners in front. LADY WITH THE LAMP, which was following, shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of BAD HAIR DAY, forcing MR. MARUMO wider on the track.
For some distance rounding the home turn, LADY WITH THE LAMP was unable to improve when racing to the inside of MR. MARUMO.
A veterinary examination of MONTESANTOS SPIRIT, which compounded over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any abnormality.
A veterinary examination of LADY WITH THE LAMP failed to reveal any abnormality.
ALL WINNERS, BAAL YABBA AND ANIMATE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
