TATTERSALL'S RACING CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 26.07.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr W. Flynn, Mr C. McLune, Mr D. Collingwood, Mr P. Gillard

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – OUT 7M

RACE 1: TATTERSALL'S ACCOMMODATION H'CAP – 2244M

CORRETJA was slow to begin.

Near the 1800m ANYONE WE KNOW commenced to overrace when steadying off the heels of COCKY CRUISER and shifted out and made contact with OUT YONDER.

Making the home turn CORRETJA shifted out to improve, forcing ANYONE WE KNOW wider on the track.

DESK TOP LOVER had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

Near the 100m CORRETJA shifted in and made contact with OUT YONDER.

RACE 2: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS H'CAP – 1400M

MISS ELENI reared as the gates opened and lost ground.

Near the 900m SIRONA shifted out from behind the heels of SAMAR, forcing STELLAR SPECTRA wider on the track.

RACE 3: TATTERSALL'S ARCADE H'CAP – 1400M

As R. Saxton was indisposed, K. Pope was substituted as the rider of NEW GALITY and WORRIER (Race 5).

SAMSUN was slow to begin.

Near the 900m UP THE BID was buffeted for room between ASTANA and COUNTER AGENT which shifted in.

UP THE BID hung in under pressure in the straight which prevented L. Morrison from riding the gelding out to the best of her ability.

Near the 100m MERKABA shifted out abruptly, resulting in MERVINGTON having to be steadied.

RACE 4: HAMILTON HOTEL QTIS ADDED STAKES – 1400M

ATHOL jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with LISTEN PAL, taking that horse out on to the hind quarters of MISS GLORYHUNTER.

KALINGA METAL was slow to begin.

SPECIAL FORTUNE commenced to hang out after leaving the 800m. This enabled SUBJUGATE to obtain a run to that horse's inside approaching the home turn.

Approaching the 600m ATHOL had to be checked off the heels of KATABATIC WINDS. CASTLE KLAIRE, which was following, shifted out to avoid the heels of ATHOL, resulting in LISTEN PAL shifting out taking MISS BELLATORI and PROUD NATIVE wider on the track.

PROUD NATIVE was held up for clear running after leaving the 200m.

RACE 5: CARLTON DRAUGHT COUNTRY CUP – 1200M

FULL ON FRAAR was hampered shortly after the start by ALLEZ JOIE which shifted out.

Passing the 1000m NETAZI had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PROMISING JOY which shifted in. Apprentice M. Rice, the rider of PROMISING JOY, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.

SNEEM shifted in after leaving the 1000m and made contact with ALLEZ JOIE resulting in OMNITRADER, which was following, having to be checked off the heels of ALLEZ JOIE. OMNITRADER then commenced to overrace.

MAN ON A MISSION pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

CHRISTMAS HANDOUT was obliged to race wide throughout.

Approaching the 600m OMNITRADER was tightened for room by KID MILLIONS which was taken in slightly by HOOKMAN.

When questioned as to his actions near the 500m, apprentice Z. Purton stated that at that point, whilst being crowded for room by KID MILLIONS, he endeavoured to pull the whip through, however it became entangled in the mane. Z. Purton's explanation was accepted.

KID MILLIONS was held up for clear running from the 400m until the 200m.

OMNITRADER was held up for clear running in the straight.

RACE 6: FRANK DOLAN QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M

NO STOPS was slow to begin.

PENOLA was obliged to race wide throughout.

After leaving the 600m SCENIC WELLS had to be checked off the heels of KIND SPIRITS.

GRACEFUL PRINCE made the crossing awkwardly.

JAMELDEN was held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until the 200m.

SCENIC WELLS also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

After obtaining a run to the inside of KIND SPIRITS near the 200m, KID TREASURE shifted out resulting in KIND SPIRITS having to be steadied off the heels of CROWN REGATTA.

Apprentice L. Morrison, the rider of KID TREASURE, reported that the saddle shifted back prior to the entrance of the straight, placing her at a disadvantage.

RACE 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT TATTERSALL'S MILE – 1600M

AMEX was slow to begin.

After travelling a short distance PORT CALL shifted out taking OSCA WARRIOR out on to STARTELL which was steadied when taken on to the hind quarters of MAY ROYAL.

Near the 500m AMEX had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MOTIVATE.

In the early stages of the straight PANORAMA HEIGHTS was held up for clear running.

Approaching the 200m AMEX had to be steadied off the heels of CONSULAR which shifted out slightly. AMEX then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.

Inside the 200m ORTHOPAEDIC was cramped for room between POLYGRAM and MOTIVATE.

OSCA WARRIOR was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that he could find no abnormality. A swab sample was taken from OSCA WARRIOR.

RACE 8: TATTERSALL'S GYMNASIUM H'CAP – 1600M

BIONIC NED was a late scratching at 9.10 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.

SMIK jumped away awkwardly.

NARWHAL also jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of HANCOCK.

SIN CITY was obliged to race wide in the early stages.

W. Leung reported that the saddle shifted forward on KINGCIDON shortly after the start when tightened for room between ZEDSQUARE and SMIK which was taken out slightly by MARTINO. As a result, KINGCIDON was obliged to race wide after leaving the 1000m and was eased out of the event.

Approaching the home turn SERGEANT PEPPERS shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring HANDY HANK. CANNY CRUISE, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of SERGEANT PEPPERS.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SERGEANT PEPPERS, M. Rodd stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early stages and when following the eventual winner after leaving the 700m he was of the opinion that SERGEANT PEPPERS would finish the race strongly, however when asked for an effort the gelding was immediately under pressure.

B. Stewart was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of ½kg overweight on 2nd placegetter NARWHAL.

ALL WINNERS AND OSCA WARRIOR WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
