QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.22.10.2003

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr D. Hensler, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr D. Collingwood, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD/GOOD AT 11.30 A.M. RAIL - 7.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: GWENDA KLEINHANS H'CAP - 1000M.

KID TREASURE jumped inwards at the start, crowding SLICK OPERATOR and KING WELLS.

A veterinary examination of MULTI BONZA following the race revealed the horse was lame in the off fore leg.

RACE 2: TONY FITZGERALD H'CAP - 1838M.

Near the 1600m., INVERLEIGH LAD had to be eased to avoid the heels of MOON ECHO, which shifted towards the rails. INVERLEIGH LAD then became unbalanced and shifted out, making heavy contact with the hind quarters of BRAVE WALTER, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. G. Colless, rider of MOON ECHO, was cautioned and advised to provide sufficient clearance when crossing.

At the 400m., BRAVE WALTER had to be eased to avoid the heels of INVERLEIGH LAD, which shifted out to improve.

SKINSTAD was inclined to lay in when under pressure over the concluding stages.


RACE 3: MIRIAM GITTINS H'CAP - 1200M.

PICAYUNE, which threw itself down in the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found suitable to race. The connections of PICAYUNE were advised that a warning would be placed against the horse in relation to its barrier manners.

LONELY jumped outwards at the start, forcing CLASSIC BLOOM out on to WAY TOO FAST.

MISS AMERICAN PIE jumped away awkwardly, losing ground at the start.

PICAYUNE was slow to begin.

Approaching the 600m., CLASSIC BLOOM, which improved on to the heels of ARROWSWEEP, had to be restrained and shifted out.

SUNNE IN SPLENDOUR was eased near the 600m. crossing and shifted out, taking CROWNED GEM wider on the track.





RACE 4: JOHN LEE H'CAP - 1400M.

D. Evans, rider of HIGHLAND STORM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m. he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of TYROGUE, resulting in that horse being taken in, tightening the running of ULTRA MODERN, resulting in ULTRA MODERN having to be checked. After being checked, ULTRA MODERN then commenced to race fiercely and continued to race fierce until near the 600m.. OUTBACK THUNDER, which was racing on the rails, raced in restricted room in this incident, and after racing in restricted room, the horse commenced to race fiercely. D. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 October and to expire at midnight, 8 November 2003.

Near the 200m., HIGHLAND STORM became unbalanced when racing in restricted room between HUZZAH and TYROGUE.

HIGHLAND STORM shifted outwards over the concluding stages of the race and close to the finish line brushed SHORE.


RACE 5: ROY AND GLENIS RADUNZ H'CAP - 1500M.

After travelling a short distance, SESEMANN got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously. The horse then hung in throughout the event and raced ungenerously in the straight. A veterinary examination of SESEMANN revealed the horse to be suffering from lacerations to the mouth.

G. Colless reported that after assuming the lead, JARABU pulled hard in the middle stages and on occasions he felt that the horse's breathing sounded abnormal. A veterinary examination of JARABU failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 6: PETER AND KAY DUNN H'CAP - 1200M.

SILVER CLASSIC jumped awkwardly.

Near the 800m., HAMAH had to be eased to avoid the heels of MUSHOOD, which was taken in by HYMN TO HER.

STRAVAIN LADY raced greenly in the straight, and a veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing slight soreness in the off knee.

GEIGER DRAGON cast both front plates in running.



RACE 7: SOUTH-EAST QUEENSLAND COUNTRY RACE CLUBS ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1400M.

STRANGE CONFLICT and POKING AROUND were slow to jump.

STORMY JOE knuckled over on jumping away.

A short distance after the start, WIDE AWAKE commenced to pull fiercely and on several occasions had to be restrained off the heels of SKY ROYAL.

Near the 1200m., MARAUDING LASS had to be eased to avoid the heels of WIDE AWAKE, which, when racing fiercely, shifted in.

Stewards questioned S. Galloway in relation to the disappointing performance of WIDE AWAKE, which failed to respond to his riding in the straight. S. Galloway stated that the horse raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and refused to settle and felt that the connections may have to consider removing the blinkers in an effort to attempt to have the gelding settle in its races. S. Galloway added that near the crossing WIDE AWAKE was forced extremely wide, however due to racing fiercely, the horse failed to finish the race off as expected. A veterinary examination of WIDE AWAKE failed to reveal any abnormality.

A. Erhart, rider of KING SHALFORD reported that after pace eased approaching the first turn, the gelding commenced to race fiercely and he experienced difficulty restraining KING SHALFORD off the heels of STORMY JOE near the 800m., and approaching the 600m., shifted out due to pulling fiercely, forcing SKY ROYAL and WIDE AWAKE wider on the track. A. Erhart reported that when shifting out he momentarily lost the use of his near-side rein and as a result of racing ungenerously, KING SHALFORD failed to finish the race off as expected.


RACE 8: BILL MCGOVERN H'CAP - 1600M.

NOVATRICE faltered on jumping away.

CENTRIFY and DIHADDAPAN came together on jumping away, and shortly after CENTRIFY shifted out, forcing TELESTAR out on to TIMESTO.

DIOCLES was slow to begin.

Near the 1500m., LAURIE'S FOLLY was inclined to shift in and away from DIHADDAPAN, resulting in NOVATRICE being cramped for room. C. Spry reported that LAURIE'S FOLLY was inclined to hang in throughout the race.

Leaving the 400m., DIHADDAPAN shifted out, taking JOHNNY BRAVO out on to MANU.

JARROD was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Over the final 200m., JARROD was unable to obtain clear running at any stage.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
