Katsidis stated that the horse had settled well outside the leader, however when asked for an effort in the straight the horse did not respond to his riding. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer F. Adams was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to have pathology tests carried out on the mare. Mr Adams was requested to notify stewards of any results within these tests that may have had any effect on the performance. After being eased away from the heels of SPEEDIE GONZALES, BLOOD 'N' BONE then commenced to overrace and continued to overrace rounding the first turn.

Trainer's representative Mr M. Hawkes was questioned regarding the comparison in performances of QUADRANGLE in winning today's event after backing up from Doomben yesterday when finishing 4th over 1600m. Mr Hawkes stated that at Doomben the horse had drawn a wide barrier and with the race being over a mile he instructed T. Pannell to endeavour to lead, however he felt that the horse had to work extremely hard to gain the lead and as a consequence of working hard in the early stages, was feeling the pressure of the race over the final 100m and finished 4th. Mr Hawkes stated that he felt the horse would be suited to the drop back in distance and whilst he had instructed S. Galloway to lead if possible, he was not surprised the horse did not have the necessary pace and as a result the horse was able to obtain a position just off the pace. Mr Hawkes added that he felt that the horse was better suited by the pattern of today's race and consequently finished the race off strongly.

RACE 3: ALANS TILES QTIS 2YO C&G H'CAP – 1000M

Mr Hill was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required before racing again.

S. Katsidis was questioned as to the disappointing performance of ALADDINS LION. He stated that the horse was fractious in the barriers and whilst it missed the start by half a length it did have a nice run in the middle stages, however when asked for an effort in the straight the horse did not respond and raced greenly. A veterinary examination of ALADDINS LION revealed the gelding to be acutely shin sore in the offside foreleg. Trainer M. Thexton advised that ALADDINS LION would be sent for a spell. DANE'S JESTER then continued to race in restricted room between CELESTIA and WITH MY, which was unable to shift out to relieve the pressure due to VOLKSINI racing tight on its outside. At a point approaching the 1300m DANE'S JESTER struck the heels of WITH MY, blundered and dislodged its rider Z. Purton. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that DANE'S JESTER sustained a laceration to the outside of the off fore cannon.

Approaching the first turn OUR SWEET MOSS commenced to pull hard and shifted out making contact with VOLKSINI.

QUEEN AMIDALA raced wide throughout.

Near the 200m CELESTIA was impeded by the riderless DANE'S JESTER.

S. Katsidis, the rider of WITH MY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of OUR MATISSE, resulting in that horse having to be checked and taken in on to CONISTON LASS which was inconvenienced.
