RULING DANE and CASUAL WENDY were slow to begin.
AMBOO was momentarily slow to begin, and shortly after was crowded by GEOGRAPHICAL, which shifted out.
MR RUANUI and ARKAYAL were obliged to race wide during the early stages.
Stewards questioned S. Katsidis over the performance of GEOGRAPHICAL. He stated that at its most recent start, the gelding raced 3 wide in a forward position, however today on discussing it with trainer Wallace, it was their opinion after drawing barrier one that they would be able to seek some cover. S. Katsidis added that GEOGRAPHICAL travelled nicely until nearing the 600m.. He angled out from that point but failed to go forward as expected, and felt that GEOGRAPHICAL was a one-pacer. He stated the performance today was disappointing as they expected the gelding to produce a much more forward showing. A post-race veterinary examination of GEOGRAPHICAL failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 2: NAAS CLASS 4 H'CAP - 2148M.
1st - In Shanghai 2nd - Mardoza 3rd - Calm Action 4th - Gaelic Prince

Shortly after the start GOOD BRANDY, which was racing greenly shifted out and bumped SON OF DANE.
Nearing the 700m., SON OF DANE momentarily laid in and brushed GOOD BRANDY, which in turn shifted in away from SON OF DANE and crowded BAANYA WARRIOR on to ORDOS, which had a tendency to lay out, resulting in BAANYA WARRIOR having to steady and lose ground. It was also apparent on the crossing that BAANYA WARRIOR became further unbalanced, losing further ground. All riders involved in this incident were requested to exercise more care in similar situations.
Approaching the 900m., BAANYA WARRIOR, which was racing greenly, shifted out, crowding OPPORTUNIC, which was steadied and taken wider, and in turn crowding HIDDEN STASH, which was also steadied and lost ground.

THE STRAND was slow to begin, losing ground. (2L)
ARID MISS shifted in at the start and bumped MARXWELL, resulting in ARID MISS becoming unbalanced.
Shortly after the start, MERRY PIERCE was buffeted for some distance between SNAPPY SHOW and JUST JEDDAH, which had both shifted ground. Then nearing the 1000m., B. Hull eased MERRY PIERCE when further crowded by both JUST JEDDAH and SNAPPY SHOW, resulting in MERRY PIERCE losing ground. Jockey J. Powell, rider of SNAPPY SHOW, was asked in future to exercise more care when in similar situations. Shortly after, MERRY PIERCE commenced to overrace, became awkward on heels, got its head up and shifted out and raced ungenerously for some distance.

Approaching the 300m., both IN THE MIDNIGHT and STAR OF TIARNE shifted ground in an attempt to take a run between POINTED and BUCK SEASON, resulting in STAR OF TIARNE becoming awkward on the heels of POINTED, which had momentarily shifted out under pressure, causing STAR OF TIARNE to steady and lose ground.
Near the 250m., M. Rice, rider of POINTED, dropped his whip.
Race 7: THE CURRAGH WELTER H'CAP - 1400M.
1st - Treasure The Kwila 2nd - Beamer 3rd - Scenic Wells 4th - Yogi's Edition
NOSEY MAN shifted out and BAILS shifted in, resulting in KING SHALFORD and PAPER KINGS becoming crowded for a short distance and losing ground.
POTESTAS was slow to begin.
SLIPSTREAM, when racing in a position 3 wide approaching the 1200m., attempted to secure a position closer to the rail, shifted in, taking BAILS inwards, resulting in KING SHALFORD having to be momentarily steadied.
Approaching the 650m., CRIMEWAVE laid in across the heels of POTESTAS and was steadied.
Stewards questioned jockey C. Spry over the performance of PAPER KINGS and he stated that after being crowded at the start, PAPER KINGS became unbalanced, and after losing some ground he began to ride forward and was then positioned at the rear of the field. He added from that point he was able to hold his position, however approaching the home turn he was under pressure. C. Spry further stated that the gelding appeared to make some ground in the straight but was still a little disappointing. He felt that had the crowding not occurred at the start, he would have been able to position himself in a similar racing patten to his last start. A post-race veterinary examination of PAPER KINGS revealed no abnormality.
Race 8: TIPPARY CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1300M.
1st - Simply Red 2nd - San Del Aquila 3rd - Wild Colonial Girl 4th - King Latarmiss

Approaching the crossing at the 500m., WILD COLONIAL GIRL became awkward on the heels of SIMPLY RED and was steadied.
Rounding the home turn, REAR ADMIRAL hung out.
Stewards questioned S. Galloway, rider of WILD COLONIAL GIRL, as to why he did not take a run presented between SIMPLY RED and REAR ADMIRAL leaving the 400m.. S. Galloway stated that after leaving the 400m., he elected to take a run around the heels of REAR ADMIRAL and to the inside of SAUCER OF MILK to give the horse a clear run to the finishing line rather than risk the possibility of being unable to obtain clear running. He further added that near the 250m., whilst still committed to the outside of REAR ADMIRAL, the mare was inclined to lay in on to the heels of REAR ADMIRAL when struck with the whip and as a result he was obliged to ease and shift out, thus enabling him to receive a clear run over the final 200m.. M. Hawkes, foreperson for trainer J. Hawkes, and S Galloway stated that whilst the the mare did finish the race off well, they were of the opinion that she may be looking for further ground.
