1st – Degenda 2nd – Tenterfield 3rd – Gold Land 4th – Naval Port

BURN ME UP (K. Banks) was slow to jump.

CHASSEUSE (M. Cahill) also missed the start.

After being crossed by NEWSROOM (D. Tanti) near the 1200m, COUNT MONTGOMERY (W. Pearson) got its head up when being steadied at that stage.

Leaving the 1000m NEWSROOM became unbalanced and made heavy contact with the running rail.

When the pace slowed near the 800m NAVAL PORT (R. Plumb) had to be steadied off the heels of NEWSROOM and shifted out taking COUNT MONTGOMERY, QUALOSUN (J. Byrne) and BURN ME UP (K. Banks) wider on the track.

GOLD LAND (M. Radecker), QUALOSUN and BURN ME UP all raced wide in the middle stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of QUALOSUN, J. Byrne stated that he was of the opinion that the horse was not entirely suited by the tempo of the race, in particular when the pace slowed from the 800m. He added that as a result of the pace slowing, the horse started to pull hard and his saddle shifted.

K. Banks also was of the opinion that BURN ME UP was not suited to the pattern of today’s race, with the pace slowing in the middle stages and her horse being forced to race wide.

KAINDARA GOLD was a late scratching at 9:37 a.m. on veterinary advice.

WINAURA was a late scratching at 1:14 p.m. acting on veterinary advice when the horse injured itself travelling to the course. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on WINAURA be refunded, with deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply to all bets placed prior to 1:14 p.m.

Near the 1000m MANIC MONDAY (K. Forrester), after improving to the inside of CALALUNA (J. Holder), had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CALALUNA when that horse shifted in. J. Holder was severely reprimanded and advised to provide more clearance when crossing.

Near the 250m COLONIAL LASS (W. Pearson) attempted to take a run between SISTER CATHERINE (D. Peisley) and CHOSEN GODDESS (J. Bowditch) where there was insufficient room. When attempting this run COLONIAL LASS made heavy contact with CHOSEN GODDESS. MANIC MONDAY, which was trailing, had to be steadied and then shifted to the inside to obtain clear running near the 200m. COLONIAL LASS again persevered for a run to the inside of CHOSEN GODDESS where there was insufficient room and again made heavy contact with CHOSEN GODDESS. Apprentice W. Pearson was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the finish line COLONIAL LASS had to be steadied when tightened for room between SISTER CATHERINE (D. Peisley) and CHOSEN GODDESS which shifted in.

Race 4: LOCKSLEY BARRINGTON C,G&E H’CAP – 1200M

STIRLING (D. Carrigg) raced three wide throughout.

ELEGANT ROI (M. Radecker) was held up for clear running until near the 200m.

When attempting to take a run to the inside of FASNATIC at the 150m, S. Scriven, the rider of TESTIFY, had to steady his mount and alter course to the outside of FASNATIC when that horse shifted back towards the rails. D. Tanti, the rider of FASNATIC, was cautioned and advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances.

ELEGANT ROI was struck over the head by the whip of D. Carrigg, the rider of STIRLING, near the 150m.

Near the finishing line ELEGANT ROI had to be checked off heels when tightened for room between TESTIMONIAL, which shifted in slightly, and TESTIFY (S. Scriven), which shifted out. S. Scriven was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for permitting his mount to shift ground near the finishing line.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that both FASNATIC and SIR SUCCESS were suffering from metabolic heat syndrome following the event.

Following a complaint by trainer T. Cook that he had been verbally abused after the running of Race 4 by apprentice M. Radecker, stewards took evidence from both parties and, as there was no corroborative evidence to support Mr Cook’s complaint, took no action.
