Trainer K. Schweida was fined $200 for having unregistered stablehands in his employment.

Race 1: Tattersall’s QTIS 2yo H’cap - 1600m
1st – Phebetay 2nd – Cayman Islands 3rd – La Bella Luisa 4th - Silvern

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Holder, rider of the 3rd placegetter, LA BELLA LUISA, against CAYMAN ISLANDS being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, whilst stewards established that passing the 200m CAYMAN ISLANDS (M. Morris) shifted in and brushed LA BELLA LUISA, stewards were satisfied that the minimal interference suffered by LA BELLA LUISA did not warrant a reversal of placings and therefore the protest was dismissed and the Judge’s placings confirmed. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Holder was fined the sum of $100 for lodging what the stewards deemed to be a frivolous protest.

MR MAYFAIR (C. Spry) was tightened for room on jumping away between ALLICHRISTINA (P. Hammersley) and MR NICHOLAS (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out.

LA BELLA LUISA (J. Holder) was tightened for room on jumping away between DIAMOND LANE (K. Wharton) and PROFESSOR (R. McMahon), which shifted in after jumping away awkwardly.

Approaching the 1200m, MR NICHOLAS (E. Wilkinson) and MY MY MAREE (S. Galloway) were momentarily placed in restricted room by ALLICHRISTINA (P. Hammersley), which shifted in.

Near the 800m, CAYMAN ISLANDS improved up on to the heels of PHEBETAY (M. Radecker) and had to be steadied.

Passing the 500m, MR NICHOLAS was momentarily steadied after improving onto the heels of MY MY MAREE (S. Galloway).

Inside the final 20m, J. Holder, rider of LA BELLA LUISA, was obliged to stop riding when tightened for room between CAYMAN ISLANDS (M. Morris) and PHEBETAY (M. Radecker) which shifted out slightly.

DIAMOND LANE, PHEBETAY and CAYMAN ISLANDS all raced wide throughout.

ALLICHRISTINA bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that the filly would be barred for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from ALLICHRISTINA.

A post race veterinary examination of PROFESSOR failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that CAYMAN ISLANDS had sustained a laceration to the back of the off hind fetlock.


Race 2: Hardy Brothers Class 6 Jewellers Plate - 2200m
1st – Take The Plea 2nd – Regal Gaze 3rd – Tedriffic 4th – Derry City

TEDRIFFIC (M. Cahill) and RANGEFIRE (D. Missen) were tightened for room on jumping away between TAKE THE PLEA (J. Jones) and TRIVO (S. Cormack).

KEY TO SUCCESS (C. Spry) jumped away awkwardly.

RISEUPSINGING (M. Morris) and REGAL GAZE (E. Wilkinson) bumped on jumping away.

REGAL GAZE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

TRIVO, DERRY CITY (M. Radecker) and CAVALLO (S. Galloway) raced wide throughout.


Race 3: Tattersall’s Arcade Open H’cap - 1000m
1st – Myagi 2nd – Grecolo 3rd – Momentously 4th – Ra Sun

BABINDA HALF (M. Hellyer) overraced in the early stages.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on DIAMONDS AM I, S. Seamer stated that his instructions were that the mare would be a little slow to begin, however to ride his mount along in the early stages to obtain the lead. He further advised that he had been instructed once the horse had obtained the lead, he endeavour to maintain that position. S. Seamer also stated that after jumping from the barriers he rode DIAMONDS AM I forward from the one barrier to obtain the lead inside BABINDA HALF. He further added that to ride to instructions he allowed the mare to maintain its position inside BABINDA HALF as BABINDA HALF endeavoured to take a sit just off DIAMONDS AM I. Trainer K. Schweida confirmed the instructions and added that the connections were of the opinion that DIAMONDS AM I performs at her best when leading. A post race veterinary examination of DIAMONDS AND I failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of BABINDA HALF failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: Sky Channel NMW H’cap - 1000m
1st – Simplest 2nd – Desdemona 3rd – She’s A Mountain 4th – Base Dancer

SIMPLEST (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.

DRAW THE LINE (K. Cunningham) and BASE DANCER (K. Wharton) were slow to begin.

Shortly after entering the straight, ADMIRAL GHERKIN (A. Taylor) shifted in and bumped BRIELLA (J. Holder) on a number of occasions.

K. Cunninghan, rider of DRAW THE LINE, was reprimanded regarding the amount of whip she used on her mount, which was out of contention.

A post race veterinary examination of BRIELLA failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 5: Carlton Draught 1MW Country Cup – 1200m
1st – Craiglea Warrior 2nd – Leondari On Ice 3rd – Chevron Island 4th – Lunch At Friscos

FASLIYITSA (M. Palmer) was tightened for room on jumping away between CHEVRON ISLAND (G. Baker) and LEONDARI ON ICE (J. Jones).

BORCHA’S WARRIOR (C. Spry) was inclined to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

LEONDARI ON ICE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

A post race veterinary examination of BORSHA’S WARRIOR (C. Spry) failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer L. Kelly advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.



Race 6: Tattersall’s Life Members QTIS 3yo H’cap - 1600m
1st – My Limit 2nd – Punch Up 3rd – Our Magic 4th – Cool Edition

Trainer B. J. Smith was fined the sum of $100 for presenting CASSARDI to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

MAGIC ROCKER (C. Spry) was slow to begin.

Near the 1400m, DREAMING CASH (P. Hammersley) had to be steadied when tightened for room between PUNCH UP (R. Wiggins) and RED FERMENTS (M. Palmer), which was taken in by DOUBLE OR NOTHIN (S. Galloway). S. Galloway, rider of DOUBLE OR NOTHIN, was reprimanded.

Passing the 1300m, RED FERMENTS (M. Palmer) commenced to overrace and near the 1200m, had to be steadied off the heels of DOUBLE OR NOTHIN.

Near the 1000m, SHUDULE GEE (M. Radecker) commenced to lay out and race ungenerously and did so for some distance.

Shortly after straightening, SONG OF HOPE (S. Cormack) shifted out and brushed OLSENS (G. Baker).

Near the 400m, MAGIC ROCKER (C. Spry) shifted out abruptly off the heels of RED FERMENTS (M. Palmer).

Passing the 300m, SWORDS (E. Wilkinson) shifted out abruptly away from MY LIMIT (S. Scriven), which shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of PUNCH UP (R. Wiggins).

OUR MAGIC (K. Wharton) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

OLSENS (G. Baker) and SWORDS (E. Wilkinson) raced wide throughout.


Race 7: Tattersall’s Mile H’cap - 1600m
1st – Perfect Feeling 2nd – Rash Promise 3rd – Grey Stream 4th – Majorca

INTHEWAY was declared a late scratching at 3.44 pm on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on INTHEWAY were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer G. Popp was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily and that he must provide a full veterinary clearance for INTHEWAY prior to its next race start.

IN REHEARSAL (S. Cormack) was slow to begin.

MAJORCA (S. Scriven) raced wide throughout.

Race 8: Des Lambart Memorial Class 6 H’cap - 1200m
1st – Upilio 2nd – Rosco’s Circus 3rd – Lennon 4th – Mr Sunset

ROSCO’S CIRCUS (N. Day) was hampered on jumping away between ELEGANT ROI (A. Taylor) and KELLY (S. Seamer), which jumped outwards.

K. Wharton, rider of COGNISANT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of ELEGANT ROI (A. Taylor), resulting in that horse being taken inwards, resulting in LENNON (S. Cormack) being tightened for room between ELEGANT ROI and UPILIO (S. Scriven), which was racing on the fence. As a result of this tightening, LENNON had to be checked and lost its position inside of ELEGANT ROI. K. Wharton was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24 July and to expire at midnight,1 August 2008.

MR SUNSET (R. McMahon) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

BRADFIELD (R. Wiggins) had difficulty obtaining clear running from passing the 200m until near the 100m.

BEN HUR (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

As R. Wiggins had left the course without stewards’ permission, stewards’ adjourned an inquiry into the reason for him failing to ride BRADFIELD out to the end of the race.

A post race veterinary examination of DECERTO and KELLY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
