1st –Yield Curve 2nd – Kintyre Conquest 3rd – Grand Corso 4th – Indiana Storm
Due to transport difficulties, S. Galloway was unable to fulfil his engagement on BAY LADY PAY and was replaced by S. Seamer.
KINTYRE CONQUEST was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to race.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Taylor, rider of the 5th placegetter, PUNCH UP, against INDIANA STORM being declared 4th, alleging interference passing the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the film, Stewards upheld the protest and the Judge’s placings were amended to read: No. 2. YIELD CURVE – 1st No.8. KINTYRE CONQUEST – 2nd No.10 – GRAND CORSO – 3rd No.6 – PUNCH UP – 4th No.11 – INDIANA STORM – 4th. In upholding the protest Stewards found that near the 300m INDIANA STORM had shifted in when not clear of PUNCH UP, resulting in PUNCH UP losing its rightful running and being mindful of the margin which separated both horses at the finish, stewards upheld the protest. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Holder was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of PUNCH UP, resulting in PUNCH UP being taken in on to LINK HOGTHROB and losing its rightful running. J. Holder was suspended for a period covered by 7 meetings.
J. Holder, rider of INDIANA STORM, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of LINK HOGTHROB (A. Coome), which resulted in that horse being tightened for room and lose its rightful running. J. Holder was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to be served concurrently with the 7-meeting suspension incurred earlier in this race, to commence at midnight, 17 August, and to expire at midnight, 30 August.

LINK HOGTHROB (A. Coome) was caught wide on the first turn and raced wide in the early stages before assuming a position outside the leader near the 1200m.
Near the 800m, PUNCH UP (J. Taylor) was cramped for room and became unbalanced when racing to the inside of LITTLE IMP (M. Radecker), which shifted in momentarily. M. Radecker, rider of LITTLE IMP, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
J. Taylor, rider of PUNCH UP, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LITTLE IMP, resulting in LITTLE IMP having to be checked. In this incident, GRAND CORSO, which was following LITTLE IMP had to be steadied to avoid that runner’s heels. J. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 August, and to expire at midnight, 30 August 2008.
KINTYRE CONQUEST was held up in the early stages of the straight, and after leaving the 300m was disappointed for a run between OCTOBER SKY (C. Reith) and PUNCH UP, which shifted out around the heels of INDIANA STORM. KINTYRE CONQUEST become unbalanced when being steadied in this incident.

The explanation was noted.
