From ITC, 29.7.11 - Race1

Trainer S. O’Sullivan advised stewards that a further veterinary examination of MISS MILNE BAY, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities other than very minor soreness over the rump area. Mrs O’Sullivan further advised that she was disappointed with the filly’s performance and that she will closely monitor the progress of MISS MILNE BAY and will continue with its preparation.

From SCTC, 31.7.11 – Race 6

Trainer J. Aitkenhead was fined $300 for failing to scratch PHOEB’S FLYER by the prescribed time. LR68

Race 1: Cellarbrations 3yo C&G Maiden Plate – 1000m
1st – Vintage Moss 2nd – Karma Force 3rd – Faverock 4th – What About Me

Apprentice J. Fry was fined $1000 for attempting to weigh out without his safety vest.

NEPETA CATARIA (E. Wilkinson) and VINTAGE MOSS (A. Pattillo) were slow to begin.

J. Byrne, rider of KARMA FORCE, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m, which resulted in TOOSEXYFORMYSHORTS (B. Looker) losing its position when being tightened on to WHAT ABOUT ME (R. McMahon).

J. Byrne, rider of KARMA FORCE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that from a point leaving the 700m he applied pressure to WHAT ABOUT ME (R. McMahon), the runner to his inside, and at a point near the 600m continued to apply pressure and shift in, resulting in WHAT ABOUT ME being checked and losing its rightful running. J. Byrne was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 12 August and to expire at midnight, 21 August.

Approaching the 400m, VINTAGE MOSS shifted out around the heels of FAVEROCK (L. Cassidy) and in doing so tightened the running of WHAT ABOUT ME (R. McMahon), which in turn shifted out, making contact with TOOSEXYFORMYSHORTS (B. Looker). A. Pattillo, rider of VINTAGE MOSS, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

L. Cassidy, rider of FAVEROCK, dropped his whip near the 300m.

Race 2: Bundaberg 5 3yo Fillies Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Little Brown Horse 2nd – Precious Mandy 3rd – Just A Rockstar 4th – Hetty

PRECIOUS MANDY (J. Taylor) and ELVSTROEM ROSE (J. Fry) were slow to begin.

LITTLE BROWN HORSE (J. Byrne) knuckled on jumping away and became very unbalanced and lost considerable ground.

FORTUNATE FURY (R. Hancock) and HETTY (B. Looker) bumped on jumping away.

HETTY and PRECIOUS MANDY (J. Taylor) brushed approaching the 600m.

ELVSTROEM ROSE commenced to hang out leaving the 600m.

Near the 500m, HETTY was momentarily tightened for room between PRECIOUS MANDY (J. Taylor) and ROSCITY (D. Griffin), which laid out.

Apprentice J. Letherby was fined the sum of $300 for failing to weigh in on 3rd placegetter, JUST A ROCKSTAR. Acting under the provisions of AR144, stewards were satisfied that JUST A ROCKSTAR carried its allotted weight and therefore correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

Race 3: IGT & QHA Maiden H'cap – 1600m
1st – Nitro Circus 2nd – Ma Royal Hiney 3rd – Knights 4th – Mightysui

As apprentice J. Fry was to be overweight, apprentice A. Butler was substituted as the rider of ERANBAI. J. Fry was fined $100.

KNIGHTS (J. Letherby) was slow to begin.

PUKEKURA BOY (A. Pattillo) and MAGIC MOVER (M. Heagney) overraced during the early stages.

Near the 250m, KNIGHTS was momentarily held up when tightened for room when taking a narrow run between FREEKEH (J. Taylor) AND ERANBAI (A. Butler).

ERANBAI and MR DUBAI (D. Griffin) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of OUR VANITY, which compounded in the home straight, revealed the horse to have cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that he would be require to provide a veterinary clearance for the horse, including the results of an ECG, and would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice J. Letherby and trainer of KNIGHTS, Mr A. Jones in respect to the tactics adopted in the early stages of the race, which resulted in KNIGHTS losing contact with the main body of the field. Mr Jones informed stewards that he instructed apprentice Letherby to position the horse towards the rear of the field from its wide barrier and rather than make a run a considerable distance from home, attempt to obtain a trail into the race and search for clear running towards the running rail as he felt it would be an insurmountable task for KNIGHTS to circle the field with the false rail out a considerable distance today. J. Letherby stated the gelding began only fairly and a short distance after the start was tightened for room, which resulted in him having to steady the horse. J. Letherby conceded he may have unnecessarily restrained KNIGHTS when attempting to position it closer to the running rail in the early stages, which resulted in it losing further ground. J. Letherby added that he was able to make ground into the race from the 600m and whilst the horse was held up for clear running at several stages in the straight, it finished the race off well. Stewards informed apprentice Letherby that whilst they believed he had erred in respect to the manner in which he restrained KNIGHTS in the early stages, they were not satisfied that his riding had fallen below the standard reasonably to be expected of a rider of his experience and therefore took no direct action.

Race 4: XXXX Gold Maiden H'cap - 1300m
1st –Waranga 2nd – Perrault 3rd – Taken 4th – Ripley Glen

JUSTAZ was declared a late scratching at 12.10 am after the gelding was injured en route to the course.

KEEP IN TIME (M. Hughes), which was slow to begin, shifted in, making contact with PERRAULT (D. Griffin)

WARANGA (B. Wallace) raced wide in the early stages.

An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the riding tactics adopted on MOLLY’S WAY today.

Race 5: Carlton Mid CG&E Class 3 H'cap - 1500m
1st –Clangor 2nd – Toy Ruler 3rd – Get Uppity 4th – Deb’s Pick

GRAIN TRADER (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

PICK OF DESTINY (N. Thomas) overraced in the early stages.

HI JO SILVER (K. Pope) overraced during the middle stages.

COOLSHOW (L. Cassidy) was held up and unable to improve from a point near the 400m until near the 250m.

Over the concluding stages, GRAIN TRADER had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of HI JO SILVER, which shifted in slightly.

A post race veterinary examination of PICK OF DESTINY revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. A veterinary clearance would be required for the gelding prior to its next race start. Trainer K. Walker advised that PICK OF DESTINY would now be retired from racing.

Race 6: Bankwest Business F&M Class 3 H'cap – 1500m
1st –Carry Me Baby 2nd – Save Yourself 3rd – Ampho Power 4th – Mystical Bel

LADY GAINSFORD, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

FUNKY LADY (B. Looker), MYSTICAL BEL (J. Letherby) and SAVE YOURSELF (J. Byrne) were all tightened for room between THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (J. Bowditch) and PHOEB’S FLYER (C. McIver), both of which shifted ground.

FUNKY LADY overraced in the early stages.

CARRY ME BABY (C. Munce) raced wide until progressing to the lead near the 600m.

When the pace steadied near the 700m, THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (J. Bowditch) improved up on to the heels of FUNKY LADY and was steadied. In this incident, PHOEB’S FLYER, which was following, was hampered as a consequence.

Leaving the 600m, AMPHO POWER (L. Cassidy) improved up on to the heels of MISS BRADBURY and was steadied.

ATTRIBUTES (E. Wilkinson) raced wide to a point near the 800m.

OVERANXIOUS (J. Byrne) was held up in the early part of the straight and then shifted to the outside of THIRTY SEVEN MEGS (M. Walters) to improve near the 300m.

THIRTY SEVEN MEGS (M. Walters) raced wide throughout the race.
