Race 1: HAMILTON HOTEL QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Military Bride 2nd – Optionality 3rd – Read All About Me 4th – Highly Contagious

DEVIL HEART (M. Wood) shifted out abruptly at the start and severely hampered SIERRA RAPID (M. Hellyer) and NETT (C. Munce).

LA CHORUS (S. Seamer) was slow to begin.

READ ALL ABOUT ME (R. McMahon) began very awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of OPTIONALITY (L. Rolls).

DEVIL HEART hung out approaching the 800m and commenced to shift wider on the track, resulting in NETT having to be steadied from that horse’s heels leaving the 800m. DEVIL HEART continued to hang out and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer T. Hall was advised that DEVIL HEART must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start.

CHANGE OFTEN (T. Bell) raced greenly in the straight.

MILITARY BRIDE (B. Stewart) shifted out over the concluding stages.

As R. McMahon was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club doctor, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 2: SOUTHBANK INSURANCE BROKERS H’CAP - 2400m
1st – Racing Heart 2nd – Rundle 3rd – Sir Presidente 4th – Royal Hope

As K. Forrester was to be overweight, apprentice J. Letherby was substituted as the rider of SAINT ROMAIN as no senior rider was available. K. Forrester was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).

WHITE CITY (T. Bell) and SAINT ROMAIN (J. Letherby) were both slow to begin.

Leaving the 500m ROYAL HOPE (J. Taylor) was momentarily held up for a short distance when awkwardly placed at the heels of STRIKING ROSE (J. Brown).

RUNDLE (G. Colless) shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages and made contact with RACING HEART.

Trainer of SAINT ROMAIN, R. Cole, was advised that the horse would be barred from metropolitan racing until it establishes form in the provincial area.

A post-race veterinary examination of PATMOSS (P. Hammersley) revealed the gelding to have sustained a significant injury to the off foreleg. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for PATMOSS prior to its next start.

Race 3: TATTERSALL’S ARCADE 1MW H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Kar Ma Te 2nd – Dienekes 3rd – Equissential 4th – Cash Attack

The start of this race was delayed when apprentice T. Bell, the rider of SMUGGLER'S INN, requested a veterinary inspection of the gelding. SMUGGLER'S INN was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.45 p.m. by stewards acting on veterinary advice that the horse was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Sears was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the horse’s next start. All monies invested on SMUGGLER'S INN were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions to betting to apply:

3 cents in the dollar for the Win – KAR MA TE
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner – KAR MA TE
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – DIENEKES
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – EQUISSENTIAL

SATULA (A. Mundy) raced three wide throughout.

DIENEKES (J. Byrne), RED GOD and SHEZAHOTSHOT (J. Taylor) were held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

KAR MA TE (C. Munce) was momentarily impeded for clear running leaving the 400m after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of KISS ME DEADLY (E. Wilkinson), which shifted out to improve.

Leaving the 200m SHEZAHOTSHOT attempted a run where there was insufficient room and as a result struck the heels of MONASHEE WARRIOR (L. Rolls) and blundered. Stewards advised J. Taylor (SHEZAHOTSHOT) that a rider of his experience should exhibit better judgment in similar circumstances.

A post-race veterinary examination of GLOW HEART (N. Tomizawa), which finished towards the rear of the field, revealed the horse to be exhibiting soreness over the rump and to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer R. Coveney was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for GLOW HEART prior to its next start.

Race 4: CARLTON MID COUNTRY CUP (S/C) BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Heart To Fear 2nd – Arma 3rd – Raise Up 4th – King Of The Congo

TITANIUM ROCK (J. Byrne) was a little slow to begin and was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between ROVERT (P. Hammersley) and SEA MARVISTA (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in.

FEAR NO OTHER (Matthew Palmer) jumped awkwardly.

BY CHOICE (S. Bogenhuber), FEAR NO OTHER, SNIP 'N' DUCK (L. Rolls) and MISS IMAGICA (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.

BAWAARDI (C. Whiteley) was held up for clear running between the 300m and the 150m.

Race 5: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Biggles 2nd – Mr Favulous 3rd – Leealan 4th – Easy Running

BIGGLES (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

A short distance after the start SARAJI (B. Looker) shifted out taking PEPPER JET (P. Hammersley) out on to EASY SUCCESSFUL (C. Munce), which had to be steadied when taken across the heels of PSYCHODELIC (L. Rolls).

Approaching the 700m SARAJI shifted out and away from LEEALAN (Matthew Palmer) resulting in PEPPER JET, which was racing fiercely, having to be steadied when tightened for room between SARAJI and DR ICHI (S. Galloway). A short distance later PEPPER JET, when being restrained, shifted in resulting in EASY SUCCESSFUL having to be steadied from that horse’s heels.

Leaving the 600m SARAJI shifted out across the heels of MR FAVULOUS (M. Wood) and had to be steadied. DR ICHI, which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence and then shifted out taking DOUBLE IMPACT (J. Byrne) wider on the track.

DOUBLE IMPACT raced wide throughout.

Near the 50m SHOW A PRINCE (G. Colless) improved up on to the heels of the tiring PSYCHODELIC and was obliged to alter course to the inside to improve.

Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley, the rider of PEPPER JET, regarding the horse’s seemingly disappointing performance. P. Hammersley stated that the horse was forced to race in restricted room in the early stages of the event, however travelled quite well rounding the home turn and accelerated in the straight until the 200m when the horse commenced to tire. P. Hammersley added that whilst the horse had finished towards the rear of the field he believed it would derive benefit from today’s performance after having some 10 months off from racing. In the circumstances P. Hammersley informed stewards that he was not dissatisfied with the horse’s performance. Trainer L. Birchley agreed with the comments of jockey Hammersley. A post-race veterinary examination of PEPPER JET revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Galloway regarding the performance of DR ICHI. He stated that the horse travelled quite comfortably to the home turn, however when asked for an effort at that stage the horse did not accelerate and proved disappointing. S. Galloway added that he was not entirely happy with the horse’s action in the run to the finish. Trainer B. Laming will be interviewed regarding this matter at a later date. A post-race veterinary examination of DR ICHI revealed no abnormalities.

B. Looker, the rider of SARAJI, reported that the horse did not have the pace to lead today but enjoyed a nice run just off the speed. B. Looker added that the horse travelled comfortably but did not accelerate as expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Baldwin was unable to explain the seemingly disappointing performance other than to note that the horse had lacerations to both hind legs. A post-race veterinary examination of SARAJI revealed the filly had been galloped on on both hind legs.

Race 6: TRAVEL ASSOCIATES CLASSIC F&M PLATE - 1200m
1st – Zero Rock 2nd – Liesele 3rd – Mossriver 4th – Dual Chamber

Correct weight was delayed to allow P. Hammersley, rider of the 2nd placegetter LIESELE, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to establish whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner ZERO ROCK (C. Munce). After viewing the video P. Hammersley declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was subsequently semaphored.

When the pace steadied near the 1000m NOROCOS (J. Taylor) overraced and got its head in the air.

Approaching the 1000m CARIAD (S. Seamer), after being taken in slightly by NOROCOS, shifted out across the heels of that horse and had to be checked by its rider. CARIAD then hung out for the remainder of the event, placing its rider at a distinct disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination of CARIAD revealed the horse to be sore in the near fore fetlock. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for CARIAD , and the horse must trial satisfactorily, prior to its next start.

DUAL CHAMBER (E. Wilkinson) overraced for some distance through the middle stages.

LIESELE (P. Hammersley) was held up for clear running until a point approaching the 200m.

Race 7: TATTERSALL’S RECOGNITION STAKES H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Wonderful Lass 2nd – Carry Me Bluey 3rd – Fillydelphia 4th – Danagaze

The start of this race was delayed when WONDERFUL LASS (T. Bell) displaced its tongue tie in the barriers. WONDERFUL LASS had to be unloaded and the tongue tie reaffixed.

WONDERFUL LASS was tightened for room at the start between ROCKDALE (L. Rolls) and SECRETS UNTOLD (S. Seamer).

CARRY ME BLUEY (C. Munce) was tightened for room on jumping away between LUCKY DUBAI (E. Wilkinson), which was taken out by DANAGAZE (B. Stewart), and FILLYDELPHIA (J. Byrne), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

Near the 1300m DANAGAZE and LUCKY DUBAI made contact.

YUMMY (A. Mundy) raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 500m FILLYDELPHIA, after attempting to secure clear running between ROCKDALE and WRITER (R. Wiggins), had to be steadied when WRITER held its racing line.

Near the 300m FILLYDELPHIA shifted out to improve and made contact with WRITER.

Over the concluding stages FILLYDELPHIA was tightened for room between CARRY ME BLUEY and WONDERFUL LASS, which had a tendency to shift in under pressure. Stewards issued a severe reprimand to apprentice T. Bell and informed him that they expected a better effort from a senior apprentice to straighten his mount than he had exhibited on this occasion.

Race 8: CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Hidden Kisses 2nd – Thefifthhole 3rd – Santo De Lago 4th – Release Me

The start of this race was delayed when BOOTOOLOO became fractious in the barrier stalls, dislodging its rider J. Byrne. BOOTOOLOO was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5.07 p.m. by order of the stewards. All monies invested on BOOTOOLOO were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions to betting to apply:

6 cents in the dollar for the win – HIDDEN KISSES
10 cents in the dollar for place of winner – HIDDEN KISSES
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - THEFIFTHHOLE
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - SANTO DE LAGO

SANTO DE LAGO (J. Taylor) was tightened for room on jumping away between THEFIFTHHOLE (C. Munce) and DUSTY'S FELT (S. Galloway), both of which shifted ground.

PRIMED (Matthew Palmer), PROST (T. Bell) and TARRAYOUKYAN (B. Looker) were all tightened for room at the start between RELEASE ME (R. Wiggins), which shifted out, and LIFEBUOY, which shifted in after knuckling on jumping away.

TARRAYOUKYAN shifted in approaching the 1200m and made contact with the hind quarters of DUSTY GOLD (G. Colless), which became unbalanced and shifted out hampering LIFEBUOY, which was trailing.

LIFEBUOY raced wide throughout.

PROST was unable to secure clear running from a point leaving the 300m until approaching the 100m.

A post-race veterinary examination of PROST revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer J. Thompson will be advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for PROST prior to its next start.
