GENERAL

As R. Wiggins was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: COCA COLA AMATIL BM95 H’CAP - 2100m
1st – Maling 2nd – Kar Ma Te 3rd – Mr Light Blue 4th – Hume

Correct weight was delayed to allow C. Munce, the rider of 2nd placegetter KAR MA TE, to view the stewards’ patrol footage of the head-on in the straight to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner MALING (J. Letherby). After viewing the film, C. Munce declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.

SECRETS UNTOLD (B. Looker) was slow to begin.

MR LIGHT BLUE (T. Bell) faltered on jumping away.

KAR MA TE (C. Munce) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Due to the slow tempo in the middle stages TEARY EYED (J. Bowditch), SIR PRESIDENTE and PINOT GIRL (R. McMahon) all overraced.

Approaching the 1200m KAR MA TE shifted to a three-wide position to improve forward and as a result forced HUME (S. Galloway) wider on the track.

Rider M. Palmer informed stewards that SIR PRESIDENTE was fractious in the barriers and he asked for the assistance of a barrier attendant prior to the start being effected, however as the start was effected SIR PRESIDENTE ducked its head and missed the start, resulting in the horse racing in an uncustomary position towards the rear of the field.

Inside the 100m KAR MA TE and MALING came into contact when both horses shifted ground.

Race 2: BRODIES PHELAN READY STAKES - 1000m
1st – Noogoora Burr 2nd – Sizzling 3rd – Grand Business 4th – Pure Whisper

HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS (G. Colless) and REFLECTANCE (S. Galloway) were slow to begin.

MORE THAN WILLING (Michael Palmer) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of GRAND BUSINESS (S. Seamer).

Near the 800m MORE THAN WILLING and HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS both overraced for a short distance. When being restrained, MORE THAN WILLING shifted out, resulting in REFLECTANCE, which raced greenly in the early stages, having to be steadied away from the heels of that runner. At the same stage SIZZLING (C. Munce) had to be steadied when GRAND BUSINESS, which was racing greenly, shifted out.

GRAND BUSINESS laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

G. Colless reported that after being slow to begin HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS pulled hard in the middle stages and failed to finish the race off when placed under pressure from rounding the home turn.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective.

Race 3: TOSCANIS CALAWAY GAL STAKES - 1000m
1st – Discreet 2nd – Dysfunction 3rd – Snipzu 4th – Lady Colours

As the Club doctor had not arrived on course, P. Hammersley was unable to be examined and as a result J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of LADY COLOURS.

DISCREET (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

DOUBTFILLY (A. Coome) shifted out at the start and made contact with the hind quarters of BLUE MINI (A. Erhart).

EDGE OF LOVE (J. Taylor) and SOOKIE (R. McMahon) were severely hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between LADY COLOURS (J. Byrne), which shifted in and away from REFINED OPTION (J. Bowditch), and TIME TO EXCEED (K. Banks), which shifted out.

After passing the 800m BLUE MINI shifted in and bumped DYSFUNCTION (T. Bell).

Approaching the 600m DOUBTFILLY shifted in and momentarily tightened the running of SOOKIE. When being corrected by its rider, DOUBTFILLY shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing EDGE OF LOVE and REFINED OPTION.

TIME TO EXCEED hung out rounding the home turn, taking DOUBTFILLY out on to EDGE OF LOVE.

Leaving the 300m DISCREET shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with BLUE MINI on several occasions. In this incident BLUE MINI became unbalanced.

Jockey G. Colless reported to stewards that SNIPZU travelled comfortably during the race and in the early part of the straight, however when asked for an effort failed to accelerate as anticipated. G. Colless added that in his view the horse would take benefit from its first-up performance.

A post-race veterinary examination of EDGE OF LOVE revealed no significant findings.

Race 4: THE JOHN SUTTON 50TH 0MW H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Miss Barwang 2nd – Ghostnthedarkness 3rd – Headhunter 4th – The Ringmaster

REQUESTED (P. Hammersley) reared at the start and lost ground.

HEADHUNTER (M. Wood) shifted in soon after the start and bumped THE BEAST (G. Killen).

Apprentice B. Richardson, the rider of GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ARMA (T. Bell), resulting in that horse being taken in on to VOLUNTARY (M. Hellyer), which in turn shifted in on to POLITELY (J. Bowditch), which had to be checked. Apprentice Richardson then allowed GHOSTNTHEDARKNESS to continue to shift in and further tighten the running of ARMA, which resulted in VOLUNTARY having to be checked when tightened for room. Apprentice Richardson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Thursday, 22 December, and expire at midnight on Friday, 30 December 2011.

BEFORE THE STORM (Matthew Palmer) raced extremely wide throughout.

STREETSON (C. Munce), THE BEAST and EXPLORE THE WORLD (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Near the 250m REQUESTED was disappointed for a run between STREETSON and SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (J. Byrne), when SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET shifted out.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice T. Bell in respect of the seemingly disappointing performance of ARMA. T. Bell stated that after acquiring a nice position in the early part of the race, he was then forced to race in restricted room after receiving pressure at the 900m which, in his opinion, ARMA resented. He added that whilst he was able to secure a trailing position behind THE RINGMASTER (B. Stewart) rounding the home turn, the horse failed to finish the race off and was in his view disappointing.

A post-race veterinary examination of STREETSON revealed a minor laceration to the inside of its near hind leg.

A post-race veterinary examination of CURRENCY BOY (S. Seamer) revealed no significant findings.

Race 5: ORIGIN KEBABS H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Carry Me Bluey 2nd – Hidden Kisses 3rd – Humma 4th – Danagaze

Connections advised that it will be the intention to have CARRY ME BLUEY (C. Munce) ridden with cover, worse than midfield if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

FIFTEEN CARAT (P. Hammersley) was held up for clear running until near the 300m.

Approaching the 100m BAWAARDI (C. Whiteley) had to be steadied when tightened for room by CARRY ME BLUEY.

DANAGAZE (J. Byrne) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the straight.

Inside the 100m PEPPERWOOD (G. Colless) was momentarily impeded for clear running at the heels of the tiring ROCKDALE (L. Rolls).

A post-race veterinary examination of WONDERFUL LASS (T. Bell) revealed the mare to lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Thompson was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for WONDERFUL LASS prior to its next start.

Race 6: GREENBANK RSL & ARUZE GAMING JUST NOW QUALITY - 1300m
1st – Dual Chamber 2nd – Skating On Ice 3rd – Just Destiny 4th – Miss Imagica

CICARELLI (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

A post-race veterinary examination of LUMINOUS HARMONY (J. Byrne), which compounded badly over the final 400m, revealed the mare to have cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer B. Guy will be advised that prior to LUMINOUS HARMONY’s next start, the horse must trial and he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an ECG, for the horse.

Race 7: HANACHI GOLD EDITION PLATE - 1200m
1st – Biggles 2nd – Easy Running 3rd – Show A prince 4th – Spinhro

VIA DEL CORSO (R. McMahon), which kicked out in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

On returning to scale apprentice T. Bell, the rider of BIGGLES, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against EASY RUNNING (D. Browne), being declared the winner, alleging interference leaving the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film, it was established that leaving the 200m EASY RUNNING shifted in, resulting in BIGGLES having to be checked when tightened between EASY RUNNING and DAYTIME DAZZLER. Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred, BIGGLES would have beaten EASY RUNNING to the finish and therefore upheld the objection and amended the Judge’s placings to: 4, 6, 5, 12.

G. Colless reported that shortly before the start was effected SHOW A PRINCE turned its head and as a result was slow to begin.

For some distance after the start DAYTIME DAZZLER (G. Killen) was forced to race in restricted room between ROYAL SHOUT (S. Galloway) and ROCKET TO GLORY (C. Whiteley), which shifted in.

Approaching the first turn BLACK CASH (Matthew Palmer) raced ungenerously and got is head in the air. A short distance later BLACK CASH had to be steadied when tightened for room by PEPPER JET (P. Hammersley) which was taken in by EASY RUNNING. D. Browne (EASY RUNNING) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

EASY RUNNING (D. Browne) and ROYAL SHOUT raced wide throughout.

For some distance leaving the 800m DOUBLE IMPACT (S. Seamer) was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of AQUATORIAL (B. Stewart) and near the 700m had to be steadied when AQUATORIAL shifted in slightly.

DR ICHI (C. Munce) hung out rounding the home turn, taking EASY RUNNING wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination of DR ICHI (C. Munce) revealed the colt to be sore in both forelegs. Trainer B. Laming was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for DR ICHI prior to its next start.

SPINHRO (M. Gray), HOLLYWEIRD (J. Byrne) and SHOW A PRINCE were held up for clear running until leaving the 200m.

Approaching the 200m PEPPER JET had to be steadied from the heels of HOLLYWEIRD (J. Byrne), which shifted out to improve. J. Byrne was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear before shifting ground in future.

VIA DEL CORSO had difficulty securing clear running over the final 200m.

D. Browne, the rider of EASY RUNNING, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BIGGLES (T. Bell), resulting in that horse having to be checked when tightened for room between EASY RUNNING and DAYTIME DAZZLER. D. Browne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 24 December, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 8 January 2012. When assessing penalty, stewards were conscious of D. Browne’s poor race riding record.

Near the 100m MR FAVULOUS (M. Wood), which was tiring, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by SPINHRO.

Race 8: MOTHER ENERGY CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Prost 2nd – Thefifthhole 3rd – Emvoss 4th – Rock Home Late

Trainer P. Kings was fined $200 under LR. 67 for failing to declare J. Byrne as the rider of LIGER by the prescribed time.

Prior to Race 1 P. Hammersley advised that he was to be overweight for his ride on OUR RECIDIVIST and C. Munce was substituted as the rider of that gelding. P. Hammersley was reprimanded under AR. 120(b).

Stewards allowed jockey P. Hammersley to ride BREAK THE ICE 1.5 kg overweight when no other rider was available.

EMVOSS (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

BREAK THE ICE (P. Hammersley) was restrained in the early stages from a wide barrier to gain a position at the rear of the field closer to the fence.

SANTO DE LAGO (J. Taylor) and MY LIMIT (B. Looker) overraced in the early stages.

GLOW HEART (B. Richardson), RELEASE ME (C. Whiteley) and OUR RECIDIVIST (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

After passing the 800m SANTO DE LAGO continued to overrace, was steadied from the heels of BUGSYTWOSHOES (L. Rolls), shifted out and bumped PRIMED (Matthew Palmer), which resulted in PRIMED and OUR RECIDIVIST (C. Munce) being taken wider on the track.

B. Stewart will be interviewed regarding his use of the whip on ROCK HOME LATE prior to the 100m.
