GENERAL

Stewards took possession of spurs used by Jockey R. Kerwin in Races 1 and 2. A statement was taken from Jockey Kerwin and Stewards intend to make further inquiries regarding this gear being approved for use.

Race 1: Blackdown Tablelands Maiden Plate- 1000 metres
1st – LAYBURN LADY 2nd – STANSAVANNA 3rd – LITTLE VALENTINE 4th – JOE KWILA

As Jockey S. Sheargold was to be overweight, C. Beets was substituted as the rider.

LAYBURN LADY (R. Kirwin) was difficult to load and delayed the start of the race. Trainer’s Representative B. Waldron was advised the mare would be required to obtain a pass a barrier jumpout prior to its next start.

The start was further delayed as DASH BOARD (M. Barnham) and HOPE SO (App R. Sue-San) were fractious in the barriers

HOPE SO and LITTLE VALENTINE (App K. Cross) jumped away awkwardly.

STANSAVANNA (A. Coome) and ANNIEHORSE (App C Pye) were slow to begin.

At approximately the 900 metres, TURF TSAR (S. Watkin) raced ungenerously throwing its head in the air.

LAYBURN LADY & KWILLAMISSWILLA (C. Beets) raced wide in the early stages of the race.

From approximately the 600 metres, DASH BOARD and HOPE SO raced wide.

Jockey Coome reported STANSAVANNA shifted out under pressure over the final 100 metres.

As Jockey Sheargold was found to be overweight, Trainer T. McMahon sought permission to allow Jockey Sheargold to retain the ride on HAYIL METRO. After consideration was given to mitigating circumstances, Jockey Sheargold was permitted to ride HAYIL METRO half a kilogram overweight.

Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 118 C (a) in that when he weighed out, he did so with a portion of his safety vest removed in an attempt to gain an unfair weight advantage. Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120 (b) in that, as the declared rider for KWILLAMISSWILLA in Race 1 and HAYIL METRO, he was overweight. After considering Jockey Sheargold’s submissions in relation to penalty, he was fined $500 on the first charge and $250 for the second charge.

BALLI BALLI (D. Missen) stood flat- footed when the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer T. Austin stated it was his intention that the gelding be transferred from his stable, with consideration given to the gelding being retired. Stewards placed a warning on BALLI BALLI.

MONASHEE STAR (S. Watkin) was tightened between CHARMINGLY (C. Beets) and COCO BEWARE (R. Hall) which jumped in extremely awkward, despite the efforts of the rider.

When questioned regarding the performance of REGAL MOUNTAIN, Jockey T. Bannon stated the gelding had travelled well throughout, and Trainer B Challacombe stated that REGAL MOUNTAIN did not race as well on grass compared to dirt surfaces and the distance of today’s race was not ideal. Mr. Challacombe also stated that the weight and the quality of the field were significantly (better) than in recent starts.

When questioned regarding the performance of STOUTFAST, Jockey A. Coome stated that the gelding did not appreciated the manner in which the race was run and travelled well until the home turn and when placed under pressure, did not finish off as expected and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer T Button stated that STOUTFAST had endured a long preparation and carried significant weights over this time. He stated he would now spell STOUTFAST and would give consideration to retiring the gelding.
