RACE 2: GREYHOUND AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE - 800M
1st – Fourteen Red 2nd – Maxcee 3rd – Lebikyl 4th – Bindat
An objection was lodged by J Murphy, rider of 2nd placed horse MAXCEE, against FOURTEEN RED (J McKinnon) being declared the winner, alleging interference on the home turn. It was established that rounding the home turn FOURTEEN RED commenced to hang out, carrying MAXCEE (J Murphy) and LEBIKYL (G Auckram) wider on the track. Bearing in mind the margin, and where the incident occurred, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the incident not occurred MAXCEE would have beaten FOURTEEN RED, therefore the objection was dismissed.
MORINGA’S GUNSHOT (C Kearney) and SHEZALL KRISTEL (S Bayliss) both began awkwardly.
GOLDA’S SECRET (W Clasohm) and NIPPY CROWN (W J Cook) were both slow to begin.
Approaching the home turn NIPPY CROWN raced ungenerously for a short distance.
FOURTEEN RED (J McKinnon) hung out throughout the event placing its rider at a disadvantage.
Over the concluding stages FOURTEEN RED shifted out abruptly.
MORINGA’S GUNSHOT knuckled badly 200m past the winning post on pulling up and as a result dislodged its rider. C Kearney was examined by the club’s medical officer and passed fit to complete his remaining riding engagements.
Mr M. Jeynes, the trainer of FOURTEEN RED was advised that an official warning would now be placed against that filly’s racing manners.

Approaching the 300m FRENCH NOVA (W Clasohm) was held up and eventually had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run between OUR SPECIAL STAR and DOMINUS LORD (G Auckram) where, in the opinion of the Stewards, there was doubtful room. W Clasohm was reprimanded and advised to ensure that there is sufficient room when obtaining runs in the future.
Passing the 300m REIS HOS (B Calkin) was steadied when tightened for room between HOLLYWOOD ROLLER (D Van Bekkum) and HAPPY SALIERI (J Piper) which shifted in. J Piper was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that she makes a far greater effort to prevent her mounts shifting ground in the future.
