WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: CRITERION HOTEL H'CAP - 1600M.
SENTENCES jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the first turn, SENTENCES had to be steadied off the heels of MANAWATU and shifted out, making contact with TIGER YEATS.
Approaching the 500m., MOET MISS shifted out off the heels of MANAWATU and in doing so made contact with TIGER YEATS.
RACE 2: ROYAL HOTEL H'CAP - 1400M.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer B. Winchester for the late declaration of T. Unwin as the rider of SOVIET LEADER.
WHY WORRY PETA and KWILORA were both slow to begin.
ESCOBAH began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, THE DESPERADO KID shifted out, hampering SOVIET LEADER.
In the middle stages, ESCOBAH was inclined to overrace and get its head in the air.
SOVIET LEADER and VIMPANI were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination EVIL DEE, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: MULGOWIE HOTEL H'CAP - 860M.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer C. Thorogood for the late declaration of P. Gesler as the rider of TANGMALANGMALOO.
DASHER'S GIRL and TAHMOOR were very slow to begin.
PETE'S PRIDE jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 600m., PETE'S PRIDE, which was inclined to overrace, had to be steadied off the heels of LUCKY MAN, which shifted in.
Over the concluding stages, GLORY GLORY was inclined to lay in and had to be steadied off the heels of PETE'S PRIDE.
RACE 4: HOTEL LAIDLEY H'CAP - 1100M.
Approaching the 850m., SHEZANNIE had to be checked when racing to the inside of POWER USE and SHALSTAR, which shifted in. In this incident it was noted that whilst SHALSTAR had shifted in, POWER USE had contributed to the incident by being inclined in lay in and away from SHALSTAR. A. Erhart, rider of SHALSTAR, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Near the 600m., PLAY THE ACE and SHALSTAR made contact on several occasions.
RACE 5: PLAINLAND HOTEL H'CAP - 1100M.
GREAT RELATIONS was slow to begin.
SILK ORGANZA and BALAKA were hampered on jumping away between CANNONBALL JACK and WINNEZZAR, both of which shifted ground.
RACE 6: GRANTHAM HOTEL HOTEL H'CAP - 1100M.
Trainer W. Ingram was fined $25 for presenting SIGN WRITER shod with large nails.
PURPORT and RAVEN ROYAL were both slow to begin.
Leaving the 800m., ARROGANT GHOST, which was pulling hard, had to be steadied off the heels of WISH LIST.
RACE 7: WITHCOTT HOTEL H'CAP - 1100M.
Trainer J. Asquith was fined $25 for presenting TRUST A DANCER with large nails.
GANGSTER was slow to begin.
Approaching the 900m., BALN LAD and GOOD GUY made contact.
Rounding the first turn, BALLN LAD had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by GOOD GUY and GENERAL DERBY, which was inclined to shift in.
LEADER DOLLAR was held up for the entire length of the straight and had to be steadied off the heels of BALLN LAD, which shifted in near the 150m..
RACE 8: GATTON VIEW HOTEL H'CAP - 1100M.
As J. Baker was indisposed, D. Griffin was substituted as the rider of LADY NO FRILLS.
IT'S ALL GO was a late scratching at 8.10 a.m. on veterinary advice.
SANCTURY GOLD shifted in on jumping away, resulting in SPECTACULAR DATE being hampered.
Near the 800m., SPECTACULAR DATE shifted in and made contact with EUREKA ALWAYS, which became unbalanced.
Approaching the 500m., RUSHMORE, which was inclined to lay out, had to be steadied off the heels of CERTIFICATION.
LADY NO FRILLS had to be steadied off the heels of CERTIFICATION, which shifted in. Apprentice T. Ikenushi, rider of CERTIFICATION, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
