LOCKYER RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRIDAY,19.10.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr D. Aurisch (Chairman); Mr A. Reardon, Mr R. Sanders, Mr W. Flynn, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD

GENERAL: FROM ITC MEETING, 18.10.01

Trainer M. Lewis reported that SON OF DAWN, which competed in race 8 at that particular meeting, was found to have been galloped on and sustained lacerations to the near hind leg.


RACE 1: S & L PRODUCE H'CAP - 860M.

KINGDOM LAD, BALOMOIS and TAMESA were all slow to begin.

Approaching the 700m., BALOMOIS had to be steadied when briefly tightened for room by PADDY'S VENTURE, which shifted in.


RACE 2: THE MORAITIS GROUP H'CAP - 1500M.

EMPEROR'S REVENGE was slow to begin.

IMAGO shifted in on jumping away and hampered KILKENNY PRINCE.

FINAL GOLD shifted out rounding the home turn, taking TOLGA DAN and EMPEROR'S REVENGE wider on the track.

GWENIVE was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.


RACE 3: CUMMINGS PRODUCE CENTRE H'CAP - 1100M.

NO MORE KISSES jumped awkwardly.

SERAFINA was slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m., KWILA FORTUNE shifted out and made heavy contact with INDIGIT.

For some distance rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, NO MORE KISSES was held up for clear running.

MANTARA LAD was inclined to shift out under pressure in the home straight, making contact with MCGOO on a number of occasions.




RACE 4: JOHN POTTER/BIG ORANGE H'CAP - 1100M.

RIO PELLIGRINO jumped outwards at the start, making heavy contact with SPLENDID DEBUT.

Approaching the 800m., SPLENDID DEBUT had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of WALL'S GIFT. As a result of this, SPLENDID DEBUT made contact with the running rail.

SAHARA FLIER was forced to race wide throughout the event

Leaving the 300m., WALL'S GIFT had to be steadied and as a result shifted in, tightening the running of SPLENDID DEBUT.

SPLENDID DEBUT was unable to obtain clear running until inside the 50m..


RACE 5: LOCKYER LOCAL GROWERS H'CAP - 1400M.

NEW SHOES, MISTER I AM and WOAMBRA were slow to begin.

A short distance after the start, the saddle shifted forward on MY LANCER, placing M. Paget at a disadvantage.

KIMBLE raced ungenerously in the early stages.


RACE 6: PURA MILK FARMERS CUP - 1400M.

Trainer F. Adams was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for REGAL GARTER by the prescribed time.

The explanation of trainer M. Hicks for failing to scratch FYWICK STORY by the prescribed time was accepted.

HOUSE OF HORRORS and FINNIGAN made heavy contact at the start.

OUR TOM was hampered a short distance after the start when tightened for room between SAM'S APPEAL and DEFIANT WARRIOR, which shifted in.

MALLEE FIRE was forced to race wide in the early stages.

Approaching the first turn, CERRUTI and DOFF both had to be steadied when tightened for room by FINNIGAN, which shifted in when not fully clear. Whilst stewards acknowledged that there was a minor contribution from SAM'S APPEAL to the inside, they nonetheless advised J. Stanley, rider of FINNIGAN, to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Near the 1100m., COSMIC COMET shifted out abruptly and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TYKE MY SON.

After leaving the 400m., CERRUTI shifted out, resulting in DOFF, which was following, shifting out to avoid that horse's heels resulting in DEFIANT WARRIOR and HELLIE MISSED being forced wider on the track.

Near the 300m., S. Richardson, rider of CERRUTI, corrected his mount and shifted back in, inconveniencing FINNIGAN, which was attempting a run to his inside.

Rounding the home turn, FINNIGAN again shifted out to improve, taking SAM'S APPEAL out on to REGAL GARTER. In this incident, SAM'S APPEAL had to be checked off the heels of DOFF.

Shortly after entering the straight, REPRENDRE was disappointed for a run to the inside of FINNIGAN and as a result clipped the heels of that runner and blundered.

After leaving the 200m., TYKE MY SON had to be checked to avoid the heels of OUR TOM, which shifted out to obtain clear running. Whilst stewards acknowledged that CERRUTI had contributed to the incident by shifting ground, G. Geran, rider of OUR TOM, was nevertheless reprimanded for continuing to ride his mount when not fully clear of TYKE MY SON.

COSMIC COMET was unable to obtain clear running in the early stages of the straight.


RACE 7: MARENDY & SONS H'CAP - 1400M.

YALLAH CITY and LEE SHORE were slow to begin.

Approaching the 300m., after being held up for clear running, MR. ALERT shifted out to improve, taking YALLAH CITY wider on the track.

Stewards inquired into the seemingly disappointing performance of OLD FAITHFUL. When questioned, M. Rodd stated that OLD FAITHFUL never travelled well throughout the event and it was his opinion that the gelding failed to handle today's track conditions. M. Rodd further stated that he was placed at a disadvantage when his saddle shifted forward near the 800m.. A veterinary examination of OLD FAITHFUL failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 8: BRISBANE MARKET AGENTS H'CAP - 860M.

MAKE NO MISTAKE and TOHESERA were slow to begin.

WONDER KICK was inconvenienced shortly after the start when tightened for room by MIGHTY BOMBER, which shifted in.

TOYSHANA had to be steadied off the heels of IN A DAZE approaching the 700m..

Near the 500m., MAKE NO MISTAKE shifted out around the heels of SAHARA SAINT and in doing so made contact with IN A DAZE.

A. Pattillo was questioned in relation to the disappointing performance of MIGHTY BOMBER. A. Pattillo stated that the gelding was forced to race wide throughout the event, however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. He indicated that it would be his advice to connections that the gelding may be better suited in events over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination of MIGHTY BOMBER revealed no abnormality.

Stewards questioned stable representative Mr P. Dawson regarding the seemingly improved performance of SAHARA SAINT in today's event as compared to its 8th of 8 at Eagle Farm on 1 October. Mr Dawson explained that SAHARA SAINT had compounded over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm in track record time, and he was of the belief that the mare was better suited to smaller tracks and the shorter distance of today's event.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
