STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Childs (Chairman); Mr S. Railton, Mr W. Birch, Mr R. Doyle, Mr D. Wann, Ms R. Doyle (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - SLOW/DEAD AT 10.20 A.M.

This meeting was conducted at the Lockyer Racecourse due to work being carried out on the Dalby course proper.

GENERAL: As R. Pittman, D. McMaster and S. Katsidis were indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

R. Pittman - Race 2. GUILTY JOKER - M. Dracos; Race 7. CATAINER - K. Yoshida.

D. McMaster - Race 6. CELENTO - L. Roberts.

S. Katsidis - Race 6. FIRES OF IRELAND - J. Stanley.


RACE 1: XXXX/RADIO 4DB H'CAP - 860M.

FIREARM, which jumped awkwardly, blundered after striking the heels of SNAALEE, which jumped inwards.

LORD GEIGER hung out rounding the home turn.

BATAAN BAY also hung out on the home turn, making contact with LIVA LIVA, forcing that gelding wider on the track.


RACE 2: WINDSOR HOTEL H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer M. Craven was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for WEST SUN by the prescribed time.

WEST SUN and FAST AL were both slow to begin.

Near the 1200m., PRINCE WILLOW shifted in marginally, resulting in TRACK SPECIALIST striking the heels of that gelding and blundering. As stewards were of the belief that TRACK SPECIALIST may have contributed to the incident by shifting out slightly. A. Abraham, rider of PRINCE WILLOW, was issued with a caution only. Following this incident, PRINCE WILLOW then shifted out, forcing GRAND RIO wide.

TRACK SPECIALIST shifted out at the 1100m. forcing WEST SUN and SILVER AZURE wider on the track.

Near the 1000m., WEST SUN shifted in, tightening the running of TRACK SPECIALIST, resulting in TRACK SPECIALIST being eased. L. Roberts, rider of WEST SUN, was reprimanded.

FAST AL laid in over the concluding stages.


RACE 3: BAILEY CIVIL CONTRACTORS H'CAP - 1500M.

Trainer D. Churchill was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for MY LANCER by the prescribed time.

SEND A DIVA shifted out over the concluding stages, making contact with BILBO.

When questioned concerning the performance of SO RADICAL, A. Parramore stated that approaching the 800m. when pressured by STOP FLIRTING and SEND A DIVA, he elected to steady and allow those runners to cross his mount. However, no sooner had STOP FLIRTING crossed to the fence then that horse commenced to lose ground, resulting in SO RADICAL being taken back through the field. He stated that in retrospect he probably erred by not attempting to hold his position inside STOP FLIRTING, however his mount was not travelling well at the time.


RACE 4: BLACK TOYOTA H'CAP - 2000M.

On jumping, BEAU FILS was hampered between HISTORICAL and ZEDSQUARE.

Leaving the winning post on the first occasion, HISTORICAL had to be steadied when taken in by ZEDSQUARE. M. Dracos, rider of ZEDSQUARE, was reminded of his responsibilities when his mounts shift ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the favourite SANDY SEA, P. Spry stated that after being caught wide in the early stages, he obtained a position one off the fence leaving the 1000m.. P. Spry further explained that he endeavoured to follow the winner, ZEDSQUARE, into the race at the 700m., however his mount failed to respond to his riding. The explanation was noted.

A veterinary examination of HISTORICAL, which tailed off, revealed the gelding to be mildly distressed. Trainer L. Paton was advised that stewards were concerned with the competitiveness of HISTORICAL at TAB races, and indicated that a warning was being placed on the horse in this regard.

RACE 5: BRAZIER TRAILERS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1100M.

Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for SWIRLING START by the prescribed time.

Due to transport difficulties, AILEMA was declared a late scratching at 2.12 p.m..

REGAL FLIGHT was slowly away.

Shortly after the start, MISTER BENGAL and SIR TO YOU were hampered by CRAIGLEA GREENE, which shifted out.

Approaching the 800m., MISTER NEWS and MISTER BENGAL were hampered by BALOMOIS, which hung out.



RACE 6: XXXX CANNONBALL H'CAP - 1100M.

Due to a malfunction of the digital photo finish equipment, correct weight was delayed whilst the stewards interviewed the Judge and his assistant. After being provided with the opportunity of scrutinizing the Sky video footage, the Judge confirmed that he was satisfied with the placings 11 - 3 - 12 - 4. The Judge's decision was endorsed by the stewards who declared correct weight.

MISTY TYCOON jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

Shortly after the strart, SHANNON LEE and SALIENT PRINCE were hampered by AUNTY TOBYS, which shifted out.

Apprentice B. Thomson, rider of AVON JEWEL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that she permitted her mount to shift in at the 850m. when insufficiently clear of COUNT YALLAH, causing that horse to be taken in on to SALIENT PRINCE, which resulted in SALIENT PRINCE being severely crowded for room and COUNT YALLAH being checked and losing ground. FIRES OF IRELAND and PISANI BAY, which were following, also had to be checked in this incident. B. Thomson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 December, and to expire at midnight, 11 December 2001

Near the 700m., PISANI BAY had to be eased off the heels of FIRES OF IRELAND, which shifted out abruptly.

At the 300m., PISANI BAY had to be steadied off the heels of SALIENT PRINCE, which was taken out by SHANNON LEE.

L. Roberts, rider of CELENTO, was reprimanded for weighing in half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.


RACE 7: CRITERION HOTEL H'CAP - 860M.

Trainer G. Burns was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for failing to declare a rider for OUR BERNIE by the prescribed time.

POPULAR DECISION and MAKE NO MISTAKE were slow to begin.

At the 700m., POPULAR DECISION got its head up whilst being steadied off the heels of OUR BERNIE.

Leaving the 400m., OUR BERNIE shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, S. Shield, making solid contact with HUZZA, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. MAKE NO MISTAKE, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of HUZZA as a consequence. K. Pope, rider of HUZZA, reported that his saddle shifted in this incident.


RACE 8: DALBY PARKVIEW MOTEL H'CAP - 1100M.

D. Gay, rider of TWILONG, was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by D. Van Bekkum, rider of the 5th placegetter, MIRROR, against TAMESA being declared 4th, and NAMALLI being declared 3rd, alleging interference approaching the finish line. Whilst it was established that MIRROR was tightened for room between TAMESA and NAMALLI, both of which shifted ground, stewards dismissed the objection when it was ascertained that the interference occurred in close proximity to the winning post. At a subsequent inquiry, no action was taken, nonetheless both J. Pollard, rider of TAMESA, and K. Sawyers, rider of NAMALLI, were urged to make greater efforts to keep their mounts on a true course.

TAMESA and DURANCH were slow to begin.

On the home turn, ALL NATIVE shifted out around the heels of CHATTONIC LADY, inconveniencing SKIP THE COFFEE.

An inquiry will be opened into the reason for CHATTONIC LADY and RIP WOODCHIP striking interference approaching the 900m..

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
