GENERAL

From Eagle Farm Meeting 3rd January, 2000

S. KATSIDIS was fined $100.00 for failing to fulfil his riding engagements due to being overweight.


From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 1st January, 2000

Race 2 Paradise Room Handicap – 1200 Metres

Stewards questioned Trainer B. Baldwin on Monday 3rd January, 2000 regarding the disappointing performance of TRI MIRACLE. He explained that the stable expected the gelding to run well however, it may not have fully recovered from a virus it had developed earlier in its preparation. He further advised that TRI MIRACLE will now be sent for at least a one month spell.


RACE 1 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES NERANG HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

As J. BYRNE was indisposed Stewards permitted the following replacement riders:-

Race 1 ERINTEL G. BAKER
Race 2 VIKING PRINCE M. CAHILL
Race 3 SERINSK M. CAHILL
Race 4 MANINGRIDA G. COLLESS
Race 5 TYCOON’S GIFT S. SEAMER
Race 6 VACEN LEE S. KATSIDIS
Race 7 CHIMING LEE S. GALLOWAY
Race 8 ALFRED THE GREAT R.S. DYE

Near the 800 metres SENET PETE shifted out slightly resulting in ERINTEL which was racing greenly to shift out abruptly.


RACE 2 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES WEST BURLEIGH HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

As M. LISTER had been declared as the rider of both MISTER SCOOTER and fourth emergency FITFUL DREAMS, Stewards approved a replacement rider for FITFUL DREAMS that being K. POPE. Trainer D. SUTTON was fined $50.00 for declaring M. LISTER as the rider of FITFUL DREAMS when no firm engagement had been arranged.

As N. DAY was indisposed Stewards also permitted the following replacement riders:-

Race 2 JUST A DOLL G. BAKER
Race 6 SWIFT KNIGHT G. BAKER

ARKY BLU was slow away.

Inside the 700 metres VIKING PRINCE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISTER SCOOTER which shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with ARKY BLU.

Stewards questioned Jockey M. GRAY (GENERAL DERBY) regarding the manner in which that gelding was ridden today. M. GRAY explained that his mount got back in accordance with its normal style of racing and was instructed to avoid covering excessive ground and to place his mount under pressure from the 500 metres. M. GRAY conceded that he may have failed to place his mount under pressure sooner than he was instructed. Stewards advised M. GRAY to ensure his mounts are ridden in such a manner that leaves no room for query.


RACE 3 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES ASHMORE HANDICAP – 900 METRES

Near the 800 metres ROMANTIC REGION shifted out slightly forcing SERINSK out across the heels of YANGAN LAD and as a result had to be steadied.

Over the concluding stages WINNEZZAR was crowded for room between RAPPAREE and YANGAN LAD which shifted slightly. M. CARSON (YANGAN LAD) was reminded of his obligations when his mounts have a tendency to shift ground.


RACE 4 – SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND FUELS HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

At the start AUTUMN HABIT shifted out making contact with ALL CHEER which in turn bumped MANINGRIDA.

In the early and middle stages of the race CHARMING DOUBLE raced fiercely.

Inside the 800 metres DESERT PHOENIX shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with KING HIGH almost causing that horse to fall. This in turn resulted in AUTUMN HABIT which was following to shift out hampering ALL CHEER.

For some distance leaving the 500 metres EL CARTERO was unable to obtain clear running.

For some distance in the home straight MANINGRIDA had difficulty in obtaining clear running.


RACE 5 – BILL LOWE MEMORIAL

At the start FRENCH RAVEN jumped outwards crowding ALPINE WHISTLER, MR. SMUGG and TOSCELLI.

Near the 100 metres ALPINE WHISTLER shifted out under pressure inconveniencing INTELLECT and DOODLE DANDY.

It was noted after the race that MR. SMUGG lost its off hind plate.



RACE 6 – SINGAPORE TURF CLUB HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

As both A. PATTILLO and G. COLLESS were ruled unfit to ride by the Club’s Doctor, Stewards permitted the following replacements:-

M. CARSON KALTRIX
M. LISTER MAELSTROM

G. COLLESS was further replaced by M. PELLING as the rider of FOREST FLASH in Race 8.

Passing the 1000 metres ZOKKFIRE which was racing in restricted room to the inside of CAPE DANCE shifted in momentarily causing SWIFT KNIGHT to be checked. SWIFT KNIGHT subsequently struck the running rail as a result. In all the circumstances no further action was taken.

Inside the final 200 metres TARANTULA failed to obtain clear running and near the 100 metres clipped the heels of CAPE DANCE. It was noted after the race that CAPE DANCE had lost both hind plates.



RACE 7 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES SILK STOCKING HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

FUSS blundered on jumping.

Shortly after the start THE DRUIDESS had to be eased when crowded for room between ANNALEA and ANNUNCIATION both of which shifted ground slightly.

Near the 300 metres THE DRUIDESS was checked when crowded between STRANGE AURA which shifted in slightly and TOASTED GOLD which was taken out after receiving heavy bump from DEVER’S GOLD. B. STEWART (DEVER’S GOLD) was issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Inside the 200 metres DEVER’S GOLD and TOASTED GOLD were crowded for room between BEAUTY BELLE and STRANGE AURA both of which shifted ground slightly. C. BROWN (BEAUTY BELLE) and R. GRIFFITHS (STRANGE AURA) were both cautioned and reminded of their obligations.

Inside the final 200 metres CHOCKERS had difficulty obtaining clear running.

It was noted after the race that HABITATIS lost its near fore plate.




RACE 8 – INDEPENDENT FUEL SUPPLIES ROBINA HANDICAP – 1300 METRES

Trainers L. Freedman and L. Mayfield-Smith were each fined $50.00 for nominating their respective horses SCENIC FLIGHT and FREEDOM ROAD in this particular race, for which they were found to be ineligible.

Stewards permitted K. POPE as the replacement rider for SEMI LUSKIN when S. SHIELD had transport difficulty.

Near the 1000 metres OUR MISS BRODIE which was inclined to overrace shifted in causing STATELY ROSE to be checked. C. CLARKE (OUR MISS BRODIE) was issued with a reprimand and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. After this incident STATELY ROSE continued to overrace.

Stewards questioned M. PELLING regarding the disappointing performance of FOREST FLASH today and he explained that his mount was travelling well enough to win during the race however, was disappointed for a clear run near the 200 metres and from that point failed to run on. Trainer A. BAILEY was of the opinion that FOREST FLASH has not raced at its best at the Gold Coast and it would be his intention to select other venues to start the horse in future. A Veterinary examination of FOREST FLASH failed to reveal no obvious abnormality and was sent to be swabbed.
