GENERAL:

Stewards today questioned M. Johnston in relation to his failure to fulfil riding engagements in
races 7 and 8 at the Gold Coast on 5 July, 2003. After hearing evidence M. Johnston was fined
the sum of $200.00.
Following the disappointing performance of ARTISTIC PRINCE in Race 3 at the Gold Coast on
23 August, 2003, trainer J. Fitzgerald reported that veterinary tests carried out on the horse
subsequent to raceday revealed that ARTISTIC PRINCE was suffering from a major heart
disorder. He added that as a result ARTISTIC PRINCE may not race again.
RACE 1: SOUTHPORT RADIATORS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1110M
BRONCO BENNY, BONNET BAY and MIGHTY SURVIVOR were all slow to jump.
Shortly after the start SPINNING WHEEL shifted in forcing JAKQUIG in onto HIGH BORN
IMAGE which made heavy contact with the hind quarters of SHARESK.
N. Jolly the rider of SIR CESESTIAL was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he
caused interference to SPINNING WHEEL when crossing that horse approaching the first
turn. N. Jolly's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six(6) meetings to
commence midnight 31 August, 2003 and expire midnight 11 September, 2003. In assessing
penalty Stewards took into account the mitigating circumstances and N. Jolly's good record in
interference related matters.
Near the 700 metres THE MOOPS had to be eased away from the heels of BRONCO
BENNY which shifted out slightly.
Approaching the home turn MIGHTY SURVIVOR had to be checked when racing between
JAKQUIG and SHARESK. After being checked MIGHTY SURVIVOR shifted out abruptly
forcing BRONCO BENNY and THE MOOPS wider on the track. After hearing evidence
from the riders and viewing the film it was established that whilst JAKQUIG had shifted in
slightly SHARESK which was racing on the rails may have shifted out slightly contributing
to the interference suffered by MIGHTY SURVIVOR. However, M. Williamson the rider
of JAKQUIG was nonetheless reprimanded and instructed to provide more room in
similar situations.
SPINNING WHEEL struck a soft patch on the home turn and became unbalanced.
A. Kennedy the rider of ASTRA CITI accidentally dropped his whip near the finishing line.
RACE 2: DENSO MAIDEN H'CAP - 2015M
BONNE PAL was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon after being kicked behind the
barriers and was passed fit to start.
JOANIE CEE turned its head as the start was e ffected and got its head momentarily caught
behind the partition upright and lost ground at the start. Stewards were satisfied that
the horse had been afforded a fair start.
After travelling a short distance PHIBBER MCGEE was inclined to race ungenerously and
continued to race fiercely rounding the first turn.
RACE 3: ADR H'CAP - 1200M
HEMAN HARRY was a little slow to jump.
HEMAN HARRY made the home turn awkwardly. A veterinary examination of HEMAN
HARRY failed to reveal any abnormality.
M. Dale the rider of PERUGINE STAR was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that
leaving the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of PRINCESS STYLE
and MONTE CAVALLO, both of which had to be checked. M. Dale's licence to ride in races
was suspended for a period of eight(8) meetings to commence midnight 31 August, 2003 and to
expire midnight 14 September, 2003.
MIGHTY GRITTY which was inclined to race greenly throughout running hung out
approaching the home turn and had to be eased to avoid the heels of CAMP EDEN.
When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of CAMP EDEN A. Kennedy
explained that the connections had requested he race in a prominent position however, he stated
that from his wide draw the horse was trapped extremely wide in the run to the first turn and he
elected to ease in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rails. He added that as a result
he was placed further back than anticipated. A. Kennedy further stated that after testing his
mount in the straight it was inclined to lay in and ran on only fairly. The explanation was noted.
M. Dale the rider of PERUGINE STAR was fined the sum of $100.00 for returning to scale in
excess of 1/2 kilo over his allocated weight.
RACE 4: H. HANSON MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M
Trainer G. Heinrich reported to Stewards that MOON JET may not have appreciated the
seven(7) day back up. A. Pattillo also indicated that the horse failed to respond to his riding and
that the horse had a tendency to lay in approaching the finish.
RACE 5: CALSONIC CLASS 2 H'CAP - 2015M
THAT DREAM and CHITTER CHATTER were tightened between EYE GEE AYE and
ROYAL TABOO when both horses shifted ground at the start.
KENTUCKY THUNDER jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
IRISH NEWS was inclined to overrace rounding the first turn and took some time to settle.
Approaching the 1400 metres KENTUCKY THUNDER had to be eased off the heels of
AVANTE GARDE.
On straightening ROYAL TABOO drifted out taking EYE GEE AYE out onto KENTUCKY
THUNDER.
Near the 200 metres ANGEL OF PEACE shifted out and brushed THAT DREAM.
Near the finishing line CHITTER CHATTER had to be eased away from the heels of ROYAL
TABOO.
DANZINA compounded badly and the horse was found to have bled from both nostrils. In
accordance with the rules DANZINA was banned from racing for life as it was the second
occasion on which it has bled. A swab sample was taken.
RACE 6: GOLD COAST AMBASSADORS CLASS 6 H'CAP - 1600M
BERGAMIA was slow to jump.
A. Pattillo the rider of AWESOME WARRIOR was severely reprimanded for permitting his
mount to shift out near the 200 metres tightening MANREGO and forcing it out onto
COLONIAL NED resulting in that horse being unbalanced.
BIOKOVO which bled from both nostrils was declared ineligible to race for three(3) months.
RACE 7: OEX CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1110M
Stewards permitted G. Birney as the replacement rider for G. Palmer on PLAY ME.
Connections will be interviewed as to the reasons for the replacement.
G. Birney reported that approaching the first turn PLAY ME which had a tendency to overrace
lost ground when having to be eased off the heels of POWER BREAK.
Approaching the first turn CALL THE HUNTER got its head up and commenced to overrace
when being restrained to take a trail behind ALGORITHM.
CALL THE HUNTER became unbalanced rounding the home turn.
RACE 8: NATRA H'CAP - 1200M
App. D. Van Bekkum the rider of OFFICE GOSSIP was severely reprimanded for failing to
claim her full allowance.
COUNTRY PACK was caught wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
Near the 600 metres COUNTRY PACK and MOSSIARE made contact.
OFFICE GOSSIP raced wide for the majority of the race.
EIGHT WINNERS PLUS DANZINA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
