As Jockey J Masset was indisposed through illness, Stewards permitted D Griffin to be replaced as the rider on MORETON MAGIC.

Jockey C Whiteley (THE GREEK GOD) accidentally dropped his whip 50m from the finish.

THE GREEK GOD was tightened for room at the finish of the event between THE HEC MAN and SAGRE which shifted out.

After the event it was found that WHEREFOUR had suffered a full thickness laceration to the superficial flexor tendon of the right hind leg.

After the running of this event the club’s Doctor stood down Jockey C Whiteley who was indisposed through illness for the remainder of the day. Therefore Stewards permitted the following rider replacements:

Race 7 – Mel – D Barron
Race 8 – Just Peaches – D Griffin

Race 6: Terry Walkinshaw Memorial Class 4 H’cap – 2200m.
1st – Take the Plea 2nd – Grand Laddie 3rd – Bearhart Lad 4th – Kind Act

MULTI MILLIONS (D Tanti) was slow to begin.

GRAND LADDIE (C Whiteley) jumped away awkwardly.

Jockey B Melham (BEARHART LAD) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BEAU REGARD (T Treichel) approaching the 1900m which resulted in BEAU REGARD having to be checked and lose its rightful running. B Melham was suspended for a period of 7 meetings to commence at midnight 25/02/07 and expire at midnight 10/03/07.

Stewards questioned D Tanti (MULTI MILLIONS), C Whiteley (GRAND LADDIE), B Melham (BEARHART LAD), and K Pope (KIND ACT) regarding the reason for MULTI MILLIONS being tightened for room when racing on the inside of GRAND LADDIE, BEARHART LAD and KIND ACT. After considering the matter Stewards were of the opinion the incident was caused by a combination of MULTI MILLIONS resenting the amount of racing room available, GRAND LADDIE racing ungenerously after being tightened in an incident at the 1900m and BEARHART LAD shifting in. In view of these findings Stewards took no further action in the matter.

Near the 200m GRAND LADDIE was tightened for room between BEARHART LAD and KIND ACT (K Pope) which shifted out under pressure.

After the event it was found that CHARZIG had ruptured its superficial flexor tendon of the near side foreleg.

Race 7: H. Harvey & Co Prestige Autobody Class 4 H’cap – 1000m.
1st – Fasnatic 2nd – Sammys Illusion 3rd – Mel 4th - Barsareal

Stewards questioned Trainer A Bailey regarding the decision to start MEL in today’s race in view of comments given to Stewards at an inquiry at Queensland Turf Club on 17 February 2007 that the horse would be sent for a spell after its poor performance. Trainer A Bailey explained that after consultation with the owner it was decided to give the horse another start. After reviewing the horse’s performance on the 17th they were of the opinion that the horse over-racing in the early and middle stages was a significant contributing factor to it yielding ground. He further advised that it was the intention to have MEL ridden in a more mid-field position in today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.

SPIKES ‘N’ SPURS (M Bennett) was slow to begin.

MEL (D Barron) jumped away awkwardly.

BARSAREAL (T Treichel) had a tendency to hang out in the early stages of the event. BARSAREAL again hung out badly under pressure over the final 300m.

Race 8: Bruce Docherty Class 3 H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Zablink 2nd – Crackaway 3rd – Just Peaches 4th - Riverstone

ZABLINK (D Green) was slow to begin losing valuable ground.

SECRETS UNTOLD (N Day) and RIVERSTONE (D Barron) were both severely crowded for room shortly after the start between LESMARTRE (D Tanti) and CRACKAWAY (B Melham) both of which shifted ground.

Approaching the 900m SECRETS UNTOLD became awkward on the heels of LESMARTRE and had to be steadied.

CRACKAWAY was caught racing wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 200m GOGGLER (App. S Holcombe) and DALCOLO (D Craven) came together when DALCOLO shifted in.

Approaching the 100m SECRETS UNTOLD was momentarily tightened for room between JUST PEACHES (D Griffin) and CRACKAWAY both of which shifted ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DALCOLO, Jockey D Craven was at a loss to explain the horse’s performance as he said DALCOLO did not travel well in today’s race in contrast to its previous start. Trainer P Stanley advised that it was his intention to have blood tests carried out on the horse in the immediate future and would advise Stewards accordingly.
