Race 1: Skyline Restaurant Dining Book Now Maiden Plate – 2200m
1st – Benaura Girl 2nd – Candice 3rd – Electric Eagle 4th – I Excel
I EXCEL (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide in the early stages of the event.
WILY TIM (App M. Hellyer) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
Near the 1200m MOON PIGY (App E. Kehoe) commenced to overrace and when checked to avoid the heels of SASSO (App S. Guymer) shifted out resulting in ELECTRIC EAGLE (App M. Palmer) being momentarily hampered.
OPONIBLE suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer J. Everson was advised as this was the first time the gelding had bled it will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.
Race 2: Melbourne Cup Nov 2 Book Now QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 900m
1st – Lightstar 2nd – Lucky Deluchi 3rd – Tycoon Tattoo 4th – Seventh Heart
Following the running of Race 1 trainer T. McCarthy advised stewards that due to recent wet weather LA CEVENNE had missed some racing work, which in his opinion, may have an affect on the filly’s performance. An announcement was made to this effect.
LA CEVENNE (S. Seamer) was slow to begin.
CHOCOLATE AND LACE (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out resulting in FRISCO LIGHTS (D. Griffin) being inconvenienced.
LIGHTSTAR (R. Wiggins) hung out rounding the home turn resulting in LUCKY DELUCHI (M. Walker) being taken wider on the track.
C. Munce was unable to explain the disappointing performance of CHOCOLATE AND LACE, which weakened badly in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: Gold Coast City Cup 28 August Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Makeba 2nd – Move To The Groove 3rd – Archuleta 4th – True Decoy
TRUE DECOY (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
TRUE DECOY overraced in the early stages and near the 900m shifted out resulting in JODA EMPRESS (J. Murphy) being tightened for room and having to be steadied.
FAMILY HERO (M. Palmer) overraced in the early stages of the event.
When the pace steadied near the 800m QUICKASAIR (G. Colless) improved to the inside of the heels of ZUZAO (D. Griffin) where there was insufficient room. As a result QUICKASAIR had to be checked and shifted in resulting in ROCKIN RILEY (D. Green) being severely checked when taken in across the heels of JODA EMPRESS (J. Murphy).
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight ARCHULETA (J.P. Stanley) and TRUE DECOY both had difficulty obtaining clear running.
MAKEBA (J. Byrne), ZUZAO and QUICKASAIR all raced 3 wide throughout the event.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of QUICKASAIR. G. Colless explained that although the gelding had struck interference near the 800m it travelled well with cover in a 3 wide position with cover from that point however, failed to respond to his riding in the early part of the straight and in his view was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of QUICKASAIR failed to reveal any abnormalities.
JODA EMPRESS lost an off hind shoe in running.
ROCKIN RILEY lost an off hind plate in running.
Following the running of this event M. Cahill the rider of YAMACUTTA was examined by the ambulance officers and stood down from his remaining rides. M. Cahill was subsequently replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 4: Xmas In July Corporate Packages Available Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Lunar Life 2nd – Elegant Ruler 3rd – Rockin’ Roxy 4th – Montalbert
MAYALBE (D. Griffin) jumped out at the start resulting in MONTALBERT (M. Heagney), INDESEADO (D. Green) and LADY RICH (C. Munce) all being tightened for room.
ESPRIT SOLEIL (App M. Hellyer) and ROCKIN’ ROXY (M. Palmer) both jumped out at the start.
Approaching the 1200m HARLEY JOHN (B. Hull), ROCKIN’ ROXY and ESPRIT SOLEIL were all tightened for room by STUD MUFFIN (M. Walker), which shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider. As a result ESPRIT SOLEIL made contact with the running rail. M. Walker was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
After passing the 1000m STUD MUFFIN commenced to overrace and proved difficult to ride in the middle stages of the event.
JUST HAVE A GO (J. Byrne) shifted out away from LADY RICH rounding the home turn resulting in ST GRAND (L. Cheshire) being taken wider on the track.
INDESEADO was held up rounding the home turn and approaching the 300m altered course to the inside of MONTALBERT to obtain clear running.
MONTALBERT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and after passing the 300m shifted out to improve and became unbalanced momentarily tightening the running of PRINCE OF THIEVES (J. Taylor).
PRINCE OF THIEVES, LADY RICH, JUST HAVE A GO and ST GRAND all raced wide throughout the event.
When questioned G. Colless explained that BANK RAIDER travelled well in the lead until placed under pressure rounding the home turn where the gelding failed to respond to his riding and compounded badly from that point. Trianer K. Opie was unable to explain the horse’s poor performance and added that BANK RAIDER had worked well leading up today’s race and he was confident of the gelding’s winning chances. K. Opie undertook to report to stewards in the coming days anything that may explain today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of BANK RAIDER failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: 2010/11 Memberships Start Renewing Now Class 5 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Naniwa 2nd – Fielding 3rd – Propheteer 4th – Bradfield
PATMOSS (J. Taylor) was slow to begin and shortly after the start shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of METEOR MASTER (A. Pattillo).
BRADFIELD (D. Griffin) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
NANIWA (M. Walker) also overraced in the early stages and after passing the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of METEOR MASTER and shifted out. NANIWA raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.
After passing the 300m METEOR MASTER shifted out to obtain a clear run and bumped THORONDO (K. Pope).
Shortly after entering the straight PATMOSS had to be steadied and was tightened for room between PROPHETEER and NANIWA, which shifted out under pressure.
THORONDO (K. Pope) and PROPHETEER (G. Lynch) both raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of METEOR MASTER rider A. Pattillo explained that the gelding travelled well and when he obtained clear running in the early part of the straight responded to his riding however, was impeded for a run inside the final 200m when BRADFIELD shifted out under pressure. A. Pattillo added that in his view the performance of METEOR MASTER was not that disappointing.
Trainer B. Ahrens was questioned regarding the improved performance of NANIWA. B. Ahrens explained that the gelding had worked well leading up today’s race and at its most recent start at Beaudesert on 12 June 2010 NANIWA hung out, which in his opinion had an adverse affect on NANIWA finishing the race off. He added that he elected to engage a strong left hand whip rider today.
Race 6: Tradies Raceday Sat 31 July Fillies & Mares Class 3 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Miss October 2nd – Hearty Laughter 3rd – Nikki Beach 4th – A Touch Of Frost
After being loaded into the barriers OUR DREAMING (C. Whiteley) reared over and after subsequently being examined by the veterinary surgeon was passed fit to start.
NEED LUV (S. Seamer) was checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between HEARTY LAUGHTER (J. Holder), which shifted out and GUANAHANI (App M. Hellyer), which was taken in by MONSHEREE (R. Wiggins), which was also taken in by MISS OCTOBER (G. Lynch).
Near the 900m MISS RYE (J. Taylor) had to be checked when tightened for room by HEARTY LAUGHTER, which shifted in slightly when taken in by SECOND HAND MAC (App S. Guymer), which shifted in when not fully clear. When considering the matter stewards took into account that the racing manners of MISS RYE had contributed to this incident however, issued both J. Holder (HEARTY LAUGHTER) and App S. Guymer (SECOND HAND MAC) with reprimands and advised them to show more regard to their fellow riders when shifting ground in future.
MONSHEREE raced wide throughout the event.
A post race veterinary examination of OUR DREAMER failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: Live Music Till 7.30pm Every Saturday Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 3 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Show A Lion Heart 2nd – Tuscon Rain 3rd – Measured 4th – Point Pain
POINT PAIN (M. Walker) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m FIDAKAT (App M. Palmer), after being tightened for room by DUKE OF WINDSOR (S. Scriven), shifted in and away from that runner and made contact with WIND GUSTS (D. Griffin), which was taken in onto NAVIGATION (K. Forrester), which was tightened for room for some distance. S. Scriven the rider of DUKE OF WINDSOR was advised to allow sufficient racing room to his fellow riders when shifting ground in future.
After passing the 800m DUKE OF WINDSOR had to be steadied off the heels of SHOW A LION HEART (S. Katsidis), which resulted in FIDAKAT, which was following having to be checked to avoid the heels of DUKE OF WINDSOR.
POINT PAIN was held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
NAVIGATION (K. Forrester) was unable to obtain clear running for a major part of the home straight and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.
SHOW A LION HEART, DUKE OF WINDSOR, FIDAKAT and TUSCON RAIN (C. Whiteley) all raced wide throughout.
R. Wiggins the rider of MEASURED was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of DUKE OF WINDSOR rider S. Scriven explained that the colt travelled well until placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight and failed to finish the race off as he expected. A post race veterinary examination of DUKE OF WINDSOR failed to reveal any abnormalities.
