When questioned as to the riding tactics adopted on FINGER ONTHE PULSE (App M. McGuren) and JET STAR BABY (N. Tomizawa) in the early stages when FINGER ONTHE PULSE was able to obtain the lead with relative ease. App M. Guren stated that he was instructed to take up a position with cover behind the speed however, when caught 3 wide in the early stages he allowed FINGER ONTHE PULSE to stride forward without placing undue pressure on his mount to obtain a position in the lead. N. Tomizawa as the rider of JET STAR BABY stated that he was instructed to find a position with cover as his mount failed to finish off its previous race when ridden in the lead. N. Tomizawa added that in order to comply with these instructions he allowed FINGER ONTHE PULSE to cross in the early stages of the event. Stewards noted the explanations tendered by both riders.

Stewards questioned App B. Wallace the rider of CLASS OF GOLD regarding the reason he failed to endeavour to avail himself to a run to the inside of INDECISION and on the back of TISPURA TONITE (T. Treichel) when that runner progressed forward leaving the 600m. App Wallace stated he was concerned that when C. McIver (INDECISION) lost the use of his iron that that runner was shifting ground and for a safety reason he did not pursue the run to the inside of that particular runner. He further added that he was instructed by connections that his mount only had a short sprint to the finish line. Stewards advised App Wallace that he had erred in not availing himself to the run which had presented itself and in future circumstances would be expected to ride in a manner which does not open himself to question.
