BURDEKIN RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY, 24/05/03
STEWARDS PANEL: D. GRIFFITHS (CHAIRMAN), B. PALMER (TRAINEE)
WEATHER - FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL - In true position
RACE 1: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1180 METRES
OVERSEAS (S. Simon) began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered ATACAMA and CEDAR LANE. A short distance later OVERSEAS shifted in when being ridden forward and crowded ATACAMA and CEDAR LANE, which were taken in, resulting in MISREAL and WOBBO TOBY having to race in restricted room. S. Simon (Overseas) was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount. In considering the matter stewards took into account that OVERSEAS had a tendency to hang in at the time of the incident and for the remainder of the event.
Near the 600 metres MISREAL brushed the running rail.
At the 150 metres FLYING CLEAR, which was hanging in, was momentarily tightened by MISREAL, which improved to its inside.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 QTIS 3-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP - 1180 METRES
After being placed in the barriers OCEAN BLUE broke through, was quickly restrained by its rider and inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
At the start PAINTED UP was severely checked when tightened for room between OCEAN BLUE and CALI BACKI BEAU, both of which shifted ground.
Near the 600 metres ZEDOLLARS had to be steadied off the heels of WELL INFORMED (S. Simon), which hung in. S. Simon was advised that in similar circumstances he must make a greater effort to keep his mount straight. ZEDOLLARS continued to hang in for the majority of the event.
At the 600 metres HANNAH'S GOLD shifted in slightly and momentarily tightened OCEAN BLUE.
Approaching the 100 metres SEEK THE BEST had to be checked off the heels of ZEDOLLARS, which shifted in after being bumped by PAINTED UP (W. Kenning), which was hanging in. Whilst stewards accepted that PAINTED UP had been hanging, nevertheless W. Kenning was advised that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount.
RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES
SIR LUCK, which was late arriving on course due to a float breakdown, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
In the early stages PASODOBLE, which missed the start slightly, was slow to get into stride. Trainer Mr J. Dixon was informed that a warning had been placed on the racing manners of PASODOBLE.
Near the 800 metres YALLAH BUTTERFLY blundered for no apparent reason.
D. Crossland, the rider of NUBRICK, reported that at the 600 metres the gelding hung out across the heels of SIR LUCK.
RACE 4: OPEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES
FLYING ASCOT began awkwardly.
Approaching the 900 metres SHODAMA (Apprentice L. Abbott) shifted in when not clear of PRINCE JACOB, which was taken in and crowded CHICAGO CLIP and EDGEWANA. Apprentice Abbott was reprimanded for not allowing sufficient clearance when crossing.
BLUE DANZIG, which raced disappointingly, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon, who could find no apparent abnormalities with the gelding
RACE 5: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1460 METRES
CARBONIZE jumped the crossing at the 1250 metres, got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter.
When the pace slowed approaching the 1100 metres SEARADA had to be checked off the heels of another runner.
Jockey S. Simon reported that in his opinion STEP ON IT had choked down during the race and he had recommended to trainer D. Olditch that the gelding race with a tongue tie in future.
RACE 6: BURDEKIN CUP - 1830 METRES
In the straight BETTER STILL was held up and unable to obtain clear running, placing its rider, G. Kliese, at a disadvantage in riding his mount out to the finish.
At the 150 metres DREAM OUT LOUD shifted out to improve and made contact with the hindquarters of ARJAYE, which became unbalanced.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
