Race 1: New Years Day QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 900 metres
1st – ALL IN SPIRIT 2nd – ROCKET ON CONNIE 3rd – CRAIGLEA PIXIE 4th – WITTAWAY
SPEED DRAGON (App. N. Bin Yadi) began awkwardly.
WITTAWAY (M. Elliott) was slow to begin.
At the start ROCKET ON CONNIE (W. D’Avila) shifted out and made contact with OUR GEORGIA’S ROSE (K. Stone).
From leaving the 200 metres until the winning post ROCKET ON CONNIE (W. D’Avila) laid out under pressure.
OUR GEORGIA’S ROSE (K. Stone) hung out throughout and took no competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was shin sore. Trainer R. Baker informed stewards that OUR GEORGIA’S ROSE will be sent for an immediate spell. Nevertheless, Mr Baker was advised that if he intended to persist with the filly’s current preparation OUR GEORGIA’S ROSE will be obliged to perform satisfactorily in a jump-out.
Race 2: Innisfail Advocate Benchmark 65 Handicap – 900 metres
1st – SUN WARRIOR 2nd - KINETIC HEAT 3rd – FOURSREAL 4th – MANHATTAN SKYLINE
BIANCO ROSSA (G. Kliese) began awkwardly, made contact with the barrier partition and lost ground.
Near the 100 metres, BIANCO ROSSA (G. Kliese) had to be steadied when tightened for room by MANHATTAN SKYLINE (M. Elliott), which shifted in under pressure. Jockey M. Elliott was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
EXAGGERATION (W. D’Avila) raced wide throughout.
Following the race Jockey A. Dykes reported that ZEDI WARRIOR failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of ZEDI WARRIOR did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 3: Cassowary Coast Regional Council Class 1 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – PINK ‘N’ BLUE 2nd – HARLEY JOHN 3rd – HAYDEE 4th – ANGEL’S AWARD
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer G. Porter for the late declaration of Jockey K. Stone as the rider for ZIP ‘N’ ZIZZ.
When Jockey F. Edwards, the replacement rider for ROYAL IMPACT, was to be overweight and no other suitable jockey was available, permission was given for Jockey Edwards to ride the mare half a kilogram above its declared weight.
VEYSONNAZ (A. Dykes) was slow into stride.
On jumping, MONACO VALE (App. N. Bin Yadi) and YOUR MOVE (M. Elliott) made contact.
Near the 150 metres FRENCH LESSON (G. Kliese) and DANE WILL DO (App. J. Kuskopf) made contact.
FRENCH LESSON (G. Kliese), DANE WILL DO (App. J. Kuskopf) and WANT TO WIN (S. Kaya) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the performance of FRENCH LESSON Jockey G. Kliese stated that near the 800 metres the bit pulled through the mouth of the gelding, placing him at a disadvantage in controlling FRENCH LESSON for the remainder of the event. Stewards could not be satisfied that any fault with the fitting of the gear or its quality, were attributable to trainer G. Baker, therefore no further action was taken.
Race 4: ITC Family Fun Day Maiden Plate – 1200 metres
1st – FRAMES 2nd – FRESH BLOOD 3rd – ROCK MELON 4th – EVE’S LEGEND
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer G. Purdy for the late declaration of Jockey R. Ryan as the rider for CLIFFORD JOHN.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey G. Kliese, the rider of FRESH BLOOD which finished 2nd, to view the official photo finish. Having done so, Jockey Kliese was satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.
CLIFFORD JOHN (R. Ryan) began awkwardly.
RAY’S ROCKET (G. Cullen), MIDGENOO (App. N. Bin Yadi), AY GEE (App. J. Kuskopf), and COSSOTTO (A. Dykes) were all tightened for room between UNICALEO(J. Dickinson) and ROCK MELON (F. Edwards), both of which shifted ground. As a result, RAY’S ROCKET was checked and lost ground.
Near the 950 metres STRITIQUE (A. Merritt) over-raced, improved onto heels and as a result shifted out and made heavy contact with UNICALEO (J. Dickinson).
Approaching the finishing line EVE’S LEGEND (S. Kaya) was momentarily obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of FRAMES (K. Stone).
FRAMES (K. Stone), COSSOTTO (A. Dykes) and MIDGENOO (App. N. Bin Yadi) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned App. N. Bin Yadi in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of MIDGENOO. App. Bin Yadi stated that after beginning fairly, MIDGENOO never travelled comfortably throughout the event and when asked to improve into the race from the 600 metres failed to respond to his riding. App. Bin Yadi added that he was of the opinion that the gelding may not have handled the prevailing track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination of MIDGENOO did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will interview trainer G. Wehlow regarding the gelding’s performance.
Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded from a Heavy(8) to a Slow(7).
Race 5: Radio 4KZ Class 3 Plate – 1200 metres
1st – BEEBEESDUEL 2nd – HEAVENLY VIEW 3rd – MEREDITH 4th – THIRTY THREE LARGE
THIRTY THREE LARGE (App. N. Bin Yadi) began awkwardly and shifted out.
ZIP THE LIP (F. Edwards) was slow to begin.
Race 6: Country Queensland Showcase Benchmark 79 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – PANECILLO 2nd – BLAME GAME 3rd – JUNEE BOY 4th – CYCLONE LARRY
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey K. Stone, the rider of CYCLONE LARRY which finished 4th, against BLAME GAME (W. D’Avila) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 50 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official videos and taking into account their own observations, stewards dismissed the objection and ordered that the judge’s placings stand. At a subsequent inquiry stewards found that approaching the 50 metres BLAME GAME shifted in under pressure and hampered CYCLONE LARRY, however they could not be satisfied that, had the incident not occurred, bearing in mind the margin between the two horses at the finish, CYCLONE LARRY would have finished ahead of BLAME GAME. Jockey W. D’Avila was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
RATTUS CONATUS (G. Kliese) began awkwardly.
PANECILLO (App. J. Kuskopf) and CYCLONE LARRY (K. Stone) made contact on jumping.
JUNEE BOY (J. Dickinson) and OUR BOY LUKAS (F. Edwards) bumped at the start.
Race 7: Innisfail Turf Club Happy New Year Class 1 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st – KANDEE QUEEN 2nd – SAVE THE PLANET 3rd – STAUNCH NORTH 4th – MADE IN AMERICA
Prior to the race jockey G. Kliese advised stewards that MASTER INVADER resents vigorous riding and he was instructed not to use the whip on the gelding if at all possible. Public announcements were made to that effect.
TOP CLASS (F. Edwards) began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start.
GREY ASH (App. N. Bin Yadi) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres HIDDEN MANNER (K. Stone) was momentarily tightened for room when SASSY (S. Kaya) shifted in.
On returning to scale Jockey F. Edwards reported that TOP CLASS (F. Edwards) failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED and pre-race samples were taken from FRENCH LESSON, MIDGENOO, TOP CLASS
