IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.18.7.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr R. Sanders (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr C. McLune, Mr W. Birch, Miss S. Gillespie (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD/FAST AFTER R.1 RAIL - 3M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: SCHWEPPES H'CAP - 1100M.

ADDED CHARM, which became fractious in the barriers prior to the start, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

OOTHAPENDRAGON jumped inwards at the start, hampering MR HORSEPOWER.

ADVANCE GUARD and TOUCH PRINCE made contact on jumping away.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, TOUCH PRINCE.

After the running of race 1, the track rating was upgraded to fast.


RACE 2: QUEENSLAND TIMES H'CAP - 1100M.

Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $50 for failing to notify a gear change for MISS ENTREVEAUX by the prescribed time.

COURGAREIGN and VICKI JOY made contact on jumping away.

FORTUNE'S FRIEND jumped away awkwardly.

At the 400m., FORTUNE'S FRIEND had to be steadied off the heels of COUGAREIGN.

Rounding the home turn, FORTUNE'S FRIEND shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of OUR MIA. A short distance later, FORTUNE'S FRIEND again made contact with OUR MIA, which resulted in OUR MIA laying back in, placing FORTUNE'S FRIEND in restricted room until near the 100m. where that filly was obliged to alter course to the inside of HOPE TO GLORY.

A post-race veterinary examination of VIVA LA VITA failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from VIVA LA VITA.


RACE 3: IPSWICH CITY SQUARE H'CAP - IPSWICH CITY SQUARE H'CAP - 2150M.

Inside the 50m., DEL BOY was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of D. Tanti, rider of MIGHTY MERAH.


RACE 4: XXXX H'CAP - 1000M.

Near the 900m., FAST NEDDY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BENLANE, which was inclined to hang out.

BENLANE continued to hang out and near the 800m., BANDIERA had to be steadied to avoid that horse's heels, and in doing so BANDIERA shifted out and made contact with MY TEMPEST. BENLANE continued to hang out for some distance after this incident.

Soon after straightening, FAST NEDDY was held up for clear running.

Approaching the 200m., BENLANE shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with MY TEMPEST on a number of occasions.

BENLANE and MY TEMPEST brushed on several occasions over the concluding stages.


RACE 5: YALUMBA WINES H'CAP - 1000M.

SPANISH ARRAY jumped outwards at the start and made contact with JOYOUS.

PRINCESS GLORIA hung out rounding the home turn, forcing SPANISH ARRAY wider on the track.

Over the concluding stages, JOYOUS attempted a run to the inside of OCTAVIAN where there was insufficient room. Apprentice S. Galvin, rider of JOYOUS, was reprimanded.


RACE 6: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL H'CAP - 1200M.

UNION SQUARE was slow to begin.

FAIR RALEIGH was hampered on jumping away between IN CONTROL and SEMAGIC, which jumped inwards.


RACE 7: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE H'CAP - 1500M.

FRANGIPANI jumped inwards at the start, causing GO CREOLE to be checked.

Near the 450m., COVET 'N' BLACK had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FRANGIPANI, which shifted in.

RACE 8: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE H'CAP - 1500M.

DESERT AURA and MAZZONE came together at the start.

An inquiry was opened into the reason for A. Baker being dislodged from BENO near the 900m.. After taking evidence from R. Morris, rider of KILLED THE CAT, C. Reith, rider of DESERT AURA, J. Sharp, rider of GRANDE ARROW, M. Dracos, rider of HATTA'S DANCER, and B. Swanton, rider of IMPORTED PRINCE, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to enable A. Baker, who was transported to hospital, to be available. IMPORTED PRINCE, BURBANK, MISS SEMIPAL and ALWAYS TRUMPS, which were following, were hampered in consequence. A post race veterinary examination of BENO revealed the gelding to have a laceration to the off fore coronet.
