IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.13.2.03

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD


RACE 1: XXXX - OUR BEER H'CAP - 1350M.

Approaching the 1000m., BOONAH GOLD, when being steadied off the heels of MY DIAMOND LIL, shifted out, taking ANGIE AND ME out on to ROSESTAD. ROSESTAD was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.

NO MORE STORIES was inclined to hang out prior to the home turn, which enabled MY DIAMOND LIL to obtain a run to that horse's inside.


RACE 2: SCHWEPPES SOLO H'CAP - 1200M.

FIREFOOT REGAL jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

CLASSIC INDEED and SNOOPS were slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, CANNY'S DOUBLE was tightened for room by BLAZING DANCER, which shifted in when being steadied.

Passing the 800m., CANNY'S DOUBLE commenced to race ungenerously and shifted out, inconveniencing CLASSIC INDEED, which was following.

Near the 400m., CANNY'S DOUBLE shifted out abruptly off the heels of BLAZING DANCER, then was unable to obtain clear running in the early stages of the straight.

CLASSIC INDEED was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and at the 100m. had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FIREFOOT REGAL, which shifted in.

G. Colless, rider of TOWN WATCHER, accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m..


RACE 3: AS GOOD AS GOLD XXXX QTIS

E. Simmons, rider of CITY ROSE, was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in near the 900m. when insufficiently clear of GROUCHO ROSE, which had to be steadied. GROUCHO ROSE was then inclined to race ungenerously.

When questioned, Z. Purton explained that after jumping away reasonably well, MAIDEN'S BLUSH was reluctant to race and he was obliged to use the whip on several occasions in an effort to entice the filly to improve.





RACE 4: CELEBRATE WITH A YALUMBA WINE QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.

MYARBEE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

KING'S REQUEST jumped outwards at the start, taking MAIZCAY QUEEN out on to BANDIT ROCKS. A short distance later, MAIZCAY QUEEN then shifted in, making contact with the hind quarters of KING'S REQUEST.

Approaching the 50m., MR RAFFIN shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring MAIZCAY QUEEN and inconvenienced MYARBEE.

A veterinary examination of MAIZCAY QUEEN, which compounded quickly in the straight, revealed the filly to be suffering signs of heat stress.


RACE 5: NEED FINANCE, TRY NORTHERN CITY FINANCE H'CAP - 1000M.

JOHN SYN jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the barrier gate and lost ground.

CRAIGLEA BELLS and SELF TITLED both jumped awkwardly.

MAN ON A MISSION was obliged to race wide from the 800m..

Approaching the 400m., JOHN SYN shifted out to improve, taking SCORE A CENTURY out on to MAN ON A MISSION.


RACE 6: YOUR LOCAL PAPER QUEENSLAND TIMES H'CAP - 1666M.

UP THE BID jumped awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

Apprentice A. Ware was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of UP THE BID. She stated that she had expected the horse to settle at the rear of the field in the early stages, however the horse never travelled well throughout and was inclined to hang out. Trainer B. Lucas could off no explanation for the performance, and indicated he may review the horse's current racing program and give UP THE BID a short break from racing.

A veterinary examination of FLYING FEET, which finished a distant last, revealed the gelding to have sustained a deep laceration to the off hind and a laceration to the near hind.


RACE 7: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL H'CAP - 1350M.

MR. NEWSAGENCY and ELUSIVE DIAMOND were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m., FLASH FRED shifted in and away from NEW YORK NEW YORK and made heavy contact with DANISKY.

Near the 100m., FARCICAL was hampered when tightened for room between BURBANK, which shifted out, and CORRETJA, which shifted in.

FARCICAL raced wide throughout the event.


RACE 8: IPSWICH CITY SQUARE H'CAP - 1200M.

OPAL RAINBOW jumped awkwardly.

UNDARA was slow to begin.

MISS KRAMER was obliged to race wide throughout.



ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
