STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. Clifford (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr D. Hensler, Mr C. McLune.
WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 6M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Trainer Mr M. Trihey was fined $100 for using an unregistered stablehand at the Ipswich Turf Club meeting on 16 April 2003. (LR 43)
Due to transport difficulties, D. Craven was unable to fulfil his engagements on LITTLE MISSY MAROO in race 1 and LIGHT THE PIPE in race 2. G. Baker and A. Parramore were substituted as the riders of the respective horses.

Trainer E. Hayes advised that subsequent to the event in which MASK finished a distant last, he had blood tests performed on the horse which revealed the gelding to be suffering from a virus.
RACE 1: CUPDAY ENJOY THE FUN IN A MARQUEE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100M.
JANIS JAY shifted in at the start, hampering DREAMS ARE TRUE.
HESSVEE was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, BROOKES and DREAMS ARE TRUE were hampered between BELLE MAREE and JANIS JAY, which shifted in.
When the pace slackened approaching the 800m., CHRISY BABE had to be checked off the heels of BANDSPEED, which resulted in CHRISSY BABE blundering, almost dislodging jockey M. Gray. BELLE MAREE, which was following, had to be steadied.
BROOKES lost its off fore plate in running.
A veterinary examination of CHRISSY BABE revealed the mare to have severed the superficial digital flexor tendon.
RACE 2: XXXX PROUD SPONSORS OF THE IPSWICH CUP E & G MAIDEN H'CAP - 1100M.

COUNT PICCOLO and PURE INDULGENCE were slow to begin.
FLASH CIRCLE jumped awkwardly and brushed the starting gate.
On jumping MINCHINBURY and AFFECTED made contact.
After passing the 800m., MINCHINBURY had to be steadied off the heels of BAZZA MORATO and lost ground.
SHOTPUT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
MINCHINBURY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
RACE 3: CUPDAY FEVER, NOW A WEEKS ENTERTAINMENT 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP - 1200M.
MIGHT BE MAGIC jumped inwards at the start, making heavy contact with VOLLEY.
Shortly after the start, SEAINTA shifted in, taking MITANNI in on to MIGHT BE MAGIC, which was tightened on to the hind quarters of VOLLEY.
Near the 900m., SAMS ADVICE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LIKE A SOUTHERLY, which shifted in.
A. Kennedy, rider of BABU CHIREE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 700m. he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BABU CHIREE, which in turn was obliged to shift in, resulting in STOP DREAMING having to be checked. A. Kennedy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 June, and to expire at midnight, 13 June 2003. FERNY DESERT, MIGHT BE MAGIC, LIKE A SOUTHERLY and SAMS ADVICE were all hampered in this incident, and MITANNI was forced wider on the track when being steadied off the heels of SAMS ADVICE.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LIKE A SOUTHERLY, M. Rodd stated that when placed under pressure at the 400m., the filly had a tendency to hang in for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination LIKE A SOUTHERLY failed to reveal any abnormality.
A veterinary examination of MITANNI following the event revealed the gelding to have sustained lacerations to the near fore heel.
RACE 4: FIND OUT ABOUT OUR OWN MARQUEE, CUPDAY CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1200M.
SAMANDER was slow to begin.
For some distance passing the 800., MISTER DE BALI pulled hard when being restrained off the heels of OUTBACK OPUS.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on AWESOME SHADOW, particularly from the 400m. until the 200m., apprentice M. Rodd stated that he was instructed to ride the mare quietly as AWESOME SHADOW had failed to finish its races off in the past. M. Rodd stated that on straightening he balanced the mare up in preparation for one final sprint. M. Rodd's comments were noted.
RACE 5: INAUGURAL IPSWICH CUP BALL, JUNE 21 CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1010M.
As G. Colless was to be overweight, A. Kennedy was substituted as the rider of WISEPOINTS, R. Goltz as the rider of LONG WAY TO RUN in race 6, and L. Morrison as the rider of PEDRO THE SWIFT in race 8. G. Colless was fined $200.
NICE AND TIDY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
VAIN AND HANDY was held up for clear running from after leaving the 600m. until shortly after entering the straight.
Over the concluding stages, VAIN AND HANDY had a tendency to lay in and had to be steadied off the heels of WISEPOINTS.
NICE AND HANDY had a tendency to run about in the straight.
Apprentice M. Rodd and stable foreman R. Campbell were questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of KISMA. M. Rodd stated that it was his intention to lead, however the filly failed to show sufficient speed and settled second behind ALLEZ JOIE. M. Rodd added that KISMA was under pressure from the 700m. and failed to respond to his riding. Mr R. Campbell stated that KISMA had worked well leading up to today's event. A post-race veterinary examination of KISMA failed to reveal any abnormality. A subsequent veterinary examination was carried out, which revealed slight lameness in the off fore leg. A swab sample was taken from KISMA.
RACE 6: IPSWICH CUP BARRIER DRAW, BLACK TIE, JUNE 25 CLASS 3 H'CAP - 2150M.
POKER PLAYER and TRENDY TIME were slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, LECLERC shifted out, which resulted in PALAZZO MUSICALE having to be steadied and taken wider on the track.
Approaching the 600m., MUKQUIN had to be steadied off the heels of PALAZZO MUSICALE and shifted out, taking CANALETTO and STRATEGIC STAR wider on the track.
Nearing the 400m., BE NICE and LUCKY TRADER were both held up for clear running for some distance.
RACE 7: STATE OF ORIGIN FUNCTION, WED. JUNE 25TH CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1690M.
JIMMY WALASKO and UNDARA were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, ANNIHILATOR was briefly hampered by WHISKEY ON ICE, which shifted out.
Passing the 700m., JIMMY WALASKO, which improved up on to the heels of TOUCH OF MOOBALL, shifted out abruptly, resulting in UNDARA having to be steadied off the heels of STEAL A MARCH..
ANNIHILATOR was obliged to race wide between the 700m. and home turn.
Near the 400m., STEAL A MARCH had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring ADMIRAL'S COMMAND.
JIMMY WALASKO was held up for clear running from the 400m. until inside the 200m.. At this stage, JIMMY WALASKO shifted out to improve, which resulted in UNDARA again having to be steadied off that runner's heels.
RACE 8: SEE YOU, CUPDAY JUNE 28 CLASS 5 H'CAP - 1350M.
SADDLE BOY was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m. when the pace slackened, KING SHALFORD had to be steadied off the heels of LA SAYSALEE, and in doing so shifted out, hampering MUKANIC. As a result, CAPTAIN MALLORY and HEART OF LIGHT were forced wider on the track.
Passing the 800m., DEFIANT WARRIOR commenced to overrace, and approaching the 700m. clipped the heels of PEDRO THE SWIFT, dislodging L. Appo. SLEEK ALI, which was following, had to be severely checked.
Stewards questioned trainer B. Guy and jockey A. Kennedy regarding his riding out of SLEEK ALI from the 600m. to the finish line. A. Kennedy stated that he had to severely check his mount at the 700m., and in doing so he believed his mount had galloped on L. Appo, and therefore he had grave concerns for his condition, and as a result he did not ride his mount out for the remainder of the race. Given the circumstances, A. Kennedy's explanation was accepted. A. Kennedy was however reminded of his obligations under the rules to ride his mounts out to the line, even in difficult circumstances
Approaching the 200m., G. Birney, rider of LA SAYSALEE attempted to take a doubtful run to the inside of GRANDE ARROW. When steadying off the heels of GRANDE ARROW, LAYSALEE then shifted in, making contact with KING SHALFORD, which made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
Over the concluding stages, LA SAYSALEE, which improved between GRANDE ARROW and KING SHALFORD, was hampered by GRANDE ARROW, which shifted in under pressure, resulting in all 3 horses becoming unbalanced.
ALL AND KISMA WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
