Race 1: Optus Business Direct Ipswich Mile 1MW Last Year H’cap – 1666m
1st – Prima Nova 2nd - Hear Ye 3rd – Go Gazza 4th - Poiym

Apprentice J. Jones pleaded guilty of a charge under AR118(C)(a) in that he weighed out in a vest that had been modified. J. Jones was fined $1000.

NEWBERRY WONDER (M. Dorrington) was slow to begin.

BEE DUB (K. Wharton) jumped outwards at the start, taking POIYM outwards.

HEAR YE (G. Colless) shifted out shortly after the start, forcing KING OF SPURS (J. Taylor) and SMARTEN CLASSY (S. Seamer) outwards.

SMARTEN CLASSY (S. Seamer) was caught 3 wide on the first turn and raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 250m, PRIMA NOVA (C. Brown) shifted out to obtain clear running and in dong so brushed the hind quarters of SONG TIME (J. Jones).

At the 150m, GO GAZZA (N. Thomas) shifted out and brushed POIYM (M. Palmer).

Apprentice J. Jones was reprimanded for failing to ride SONG TIME right out to the finish.

Race 2: Queensland Times Provincial Cup H’cap – 2150m
1st – Yield Curve 2nd – Modern Glamour 3rd – Teletor 4th – Eton Hall

Jockey B. El-Issa was fined $50 for dismounting SEMI FINAL in the barriers prior to the start.

As S. Galloway was to be overweight, C. Brown was substituted as the rider of WELSH DESCENT. S. Galloway was fined $200.

MODERN GLAMOUR (M. Radecker) reared on jumping away.

SPIN ZERO (K. Wharton) jumped away awkwardly.

ETON HALL (L. Morrison) jumped outwards at the start and brushed CAP RIVIERA (J. Holder).

TRUST THE HONEY (R. McMahon) commenced to pull hard approaching the winning post on the first occasion, and nearing the 1600m shifted in and struck the running rail. MODERN GLAMOUR, which was following, shifted out abruptly and made the turn near the 1600m awkwardly, forcing JUSSEMI (G. Colless) wider on the track. TRUST THE HONEY continued to overrace for some distance.

After making the first turn awkwardly, MODERN GLAMOUR (M. Radecker) then raced 3 wide until near the 800m.

K. Wharton, rider of SPIN ZERO (K. Wharton) was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

When questioned regarding the performance of JUSSEMI, G. Colless reported that the horse was not suited by the pattern of the race, in particular the slow pace in the early stages, and when making a run near the 700m, he was obliged to go forward wide on the track and made the home turn approximately 8 wide.

Race 3: Southern Queensland Steel Bundamba Plate QTIS H’cap – 1200m
1st – Silvern 2nd – Arjune 3rd – My Kirra 4th – Bingil Bay

MY KIRRA (C. Grylls) and MY MAYFAIR (P. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

AMPERES (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.

Near the 800m, BINGIL BAY (J. Taylor) was inclined to race ungenerously and seemed reluctant to hold its position inside MAGIC PROCESSION (M. Radecker).

Passing the 500m, BINGIL BAY shifted out to improve and bumped MAGIC PROCESSION.

MONSHEREE (T. Pannell) was held up for clear running until near the 200m.

When questioned as to ARJUNA being ridden forward today, trainer J. Collins explained that he had recently resumed training the horse and with the addition of blinkers, he intended that the horse be ridden close to the lead. He added that at its previous start from a wide draw, ARJUNA was ridden back in the field, however he was of the opinion that the horse is better suited when being ridden closer to the lead.

Race 4: Cadbury Schweppes T.L. Cooney QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1350m
1st – Frosty 2nd – Save A Buck 3rd – Magic Promenade 4th - Cassardi

Jockey B. El-Issa was fined $500 for misconduct, in that prior to the race he dismounted from MYTHICAL KING and kicked the horse in the ribs. B. El-Issa was fined a further sum of $250 for improperly challenging the Clerk of Scales in the scales area in relation to the reporting of this incident.

SONG OF HOPE (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

INVINCIBLE POWER (T. Pannell) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with FROSTY (K. Wharton).

Near the 1200m, OUR MAGIC (J. Byrne) and BLAZING NIGHT (C. Grylls) both had to be checked when racing inside MANSTON (L. Morrison) and MR UNFORGETTABLE (G. Colless). After taking evidence from both the parties concerned, the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed as L. Morrison, rider of MANSTON, was unavailable to provide evidence.

Near the 1000m, MANSTON (L. Morrison) and BLAZING NIGHT (C. Grylls) were both inclined to race fiercely and as a result raced ungenerously.

On straightening, SONG OF HOPE (R. McMahon) was hampered and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BLUE JUPITER (J. Holder), which shifted out to improve.

B. El-Issa, rider of MYTHICAL KING, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that after leaving the 300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC PROMENADE, forcing that horse in towards the rail and obliging G. Colless, the rider of MR UNFORGETTABLE, to take hold of that horse. B. El-Issa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 18 June, and to expire at midnight, 2 July.

CASSARDI (S. Galloway) and BLAZING NIGHT were both tightened for room near the 200m when racing to the inside of MASTON (L. Morrison). Stewards will inquire into the matter at a later date.

Passing the 150m, ,BLUE JUPITER (J. Holder) was momentarily cramped for room by SAVE A BUCK (J. Taylor), which shifted in under pressure.

Close to the finish line, SONG OF HOPE became unbalanced when buffeted between BLUE JUPITER and OUR MAGIC, both of which shifted ground.

INVINCIBLE POWER (T. Pannell), which had been held up from the top of the straight, was disappointed for a run leaving the 100m between SONG OF HOPE (R. McMahon) and BLUE JUPITER.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MR UNFORGETTABLE, G. Colless stated that the horse was racing today for the first time in blinkers, however he could not offer any tangible explanation for the performance today where MR UNFORGETTABLE was the first horse beaten. He added that MR UNFORGETTABLE had not performed up to its best previously and could add little in relation to the disappointing performance. Stewards intend to question trainer K. Moses, who was absent from today’s meeting, at a later date.

A post race veterinary examination of MANSTON revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near fore and off hind leg.

Race 5: Recruitment Queensland Gai Waterhouse Classic H’cap – 1350m
1st –Bella Valentina 2nd - Bareena 3rd – Dance Girl Dance 4th – Apercu

On return to scale a protest was lodged by R. McMahon, rider of the second placegetter, BAREENA, against BELLA VALENTINA (S. Seamer) being declared 1st on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. In upholding the protest, stewards were of the opinion that over the concluding stages, BELLA VALENTINA shifted approximately 3 horses, brushing BAREENA, and in doing so forced R. McMahon, rider of BAREENA, to stop using his whip. In upholding the protest, the stewards were mindful of the short head margin. The Judge’s placings were amended to read: No. 4 - BAREENA – 1st; No. 12 - BELLA VALENTINA – 2nd; No. 11 -DANCE GIRL DANCE – 3rd; No. 2 - APERCU – 4th.

COUPOLETTE (M. Paget) and APERCU (G. Colless) were both a little slow to begin.

Near the 300m STELLA JOY (L. Morrison) fell. As a result, the following horses all fell, dislodging there riders: SECONDE (A. Pattillo), CENTINELLE (J. Holder) and STREET SMART (P. Wolfgram). The following horses received varying degrees of interference: STRAWBERRY SKY (S. Galloway), COUPOLETTE, LADY GRACIOUS, APERCU, ANCIENT IMPULSE (M. Palmer), BELLS OPINION. After taking some evidence from the riders available, an inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed. L. Morrison and A. Pattillo were transported to Ipswich Base Hospital, and J. Holder and P. Wolfgram were stood down from their remaining engagements and riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary.

The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that ANCIENT IMPULSE had bled during the event. Connections were advised that ANCIENT IMPULSE would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

A post race veterinary examinations revealed:

* STREET SMART revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration to the outside of the near hind canon.

* SECONDE had sustained a bruised top gum and abrasion to the near hind canon.

* STELLA JOY had fractured its near-side tibia – euthanased on humane grounds
* CENTINELLLE had sustained a small laceration to the off fore foot and near hind foot.

TROPICAL EXPRESS, which dislodged J. Taylor when proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

FRISCO’S VISION reared as the start was effected. Correct weight was delayed in order for stewards to determine if the horse was afforded a fair start. Stewards subsequently found that FRISCO’S VISION reared of its own accord as the start was effected, and therefore declared correct weight on the Judge’s numbers. The connections of FRISCO’S VISION were advised that a warning was being placed on the horse.

MASAI PRIDE (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly and brushed MAIN VEIN (S. Seamer).

A short distance later, MASAI PRIDE was tightened for room between MAIN VEIN and EASY ROCKER (J. Byrne), which shifted in.

THE BIG EASY made the home turn awkwardly, taking MASTER DENIS wider.

Close to the finish line, TROPICAL EXPRESS was hampered by MAIN VEIN, which shifted out.

THE BIG EASY (C. Grylls) and MASTER DENNIS (K. Wharton) were obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DAUNTING LAD, S. Scriven stated that the horse did not race with its usual keenness today. He stated he advised trainer W. Naoum that the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of DAUNTING LAD failed to reveal any abnormalities.

M. Cahill, rider of the 5th placegetter, UPILLO, was fined the sum of $300 for failing to weigh in 5th. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account mitigating circumstances.

The Judge, Mr P. Chilton, reported that his assistant had momentarily semaphored No. 7 as the winner instead of No. 17. Mr Chilton was advised to submit a report to Queensland Racing regarding this matter.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Ipswich Cup H’cap – 2150m
1st – Bianca 2nd – Rampant Lion 3rd – Art Success 4th - Synonym

Trainer P. Balzen was fined $100 for presenting TORNADIC SKY without its winkers..

LEONDARI ON ICE (R. McMahon) and BRAEBROOK (B. Stewart) were both slow to begin.

SIR MONASHEE (S. Seamer) commenced to overrace leaving the 1000m and the horse pulled extremely hard from that point onwards.

MOMENTOUSLY (K. Wharton) was cramped for room passing the 800m by ASK THE MUSIC (M. Cahill), which shifted in.

ULLADULLA (J. Byrne) and MONO MAC (T. Pannell) were obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

Nearing the finish line, LEONDARI ON ICE (R. McMahon) was cramped for room between MOMENTOUSLY (K. Wharton) and ORPEN ROSE (M. Radecker), which shifted out.
