Race 2: RECRUITMENT QLD LADIES DAY 30.3.12 MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M

TAIMAZOV TRUFFEL (B. Abbey) was crowded for room on jumping away between SIR JOEL (T. Harrison) and LA DOUBT (L. Cheshire), both of which shifted ground.

BILODEAU (K. Yoshida) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported that SIR JOEL had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned K. Yoshida regarding the riding tactics adopted on BILODEAU today in comparison to previous tactics adopted on the gelding where it had led at its two most recent starts at Toowoomba. K. Yoshida stated that at its start at Toowoomba on 14 January, the horse led after being caught wide, however it was not their intention to ride the horse in that position. With regard to the horse’s performance at Toowoomba on 28 January, it was the intention to ride the horse again with a sit. The connections were disappointed with the overall finishing performance of BILODEAU on that occasion. When further questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, which resulted in BILODEAU racing three wide, K. Yoshida stated that the horse was not travelling well in the early stages and rather than place the horse under any further pressure he elected to remain in a three wide position. Stewards noted his comments. Connections further advised their disappointment with the performance of BILODEAU and the intention would be to send the gelding for a spell.

When questioned regarding the tactics to lead today on TAIMAZOV TRUFFEL, B. Abbey stated that he was given no specific instructions other than to allow the horse to settle where comfortable. He added that the horse overraced in the early stages of the event which resulted in the horse establishing a position in the lead. Stewards further questioned trainer T. Dobbe regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TAIMAZOV TRUFFEL which yielded ground badly over the final 400m, resulting in the horse being uncompetitive. After considering his explanations, stewards advised trainer T. Dobbe that TAIMAZOV TRUFFEL will be ineligible to start at TAB meetings until the stewards are satisfied by performances at the non-TAB tracks that the horse can perform to the desired standard.

Mr Watters confirmed his disappointment with the filly’s performance and advised stewards it would be the intention to retire the filly from racing. In view of this undertaking stewards took no further action in the matter. Stewards received further advice from trainer G. Watters that upon returning to his stables at Beaudesert MARY GO ROUND was found to be in season and he may reconsider previous advice regarding the termination of the racing career of the filly. Based on this information, stewards advised Mr Watters that should MARY GO ROUND return to racing, the filly would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before again competing.

K. Hickmott, trainer of SUZIE POPS, which yielded ground badly over the last 400m, was advised that SUZIE POPS must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before again racing. Stewards noted the advice of connections that it would be the intention to send SUZIE POPS for an immediate spell.

Stewards questioned trainer T. Sears regarding the seemingly improved performance of ANNONA (P. Hammersley) today. Trainer Sears stated that the horse was having its first start for the stable and he was confident of a forward showing in view of the horse’s lead-up track work to the event. He added he was of the view that the addition of the blinkers for today’s event assisted ANNONA. Stewards noted his comments.

ORHTAC (J. Kehoe) began awkwardly.

MOT DE PASSE (T. Harrison) shifted out at the start making contact with GRAND HOMME (P. Hammersley).
