Race 1: STOCKMAN’S CHOICE MEAT – SMITH GROUP MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – All But Grey 2nd – Little Rip Snorter 3rd – Little Mrs Murphy 4th – In The Back Row

The start of this race was delayed when KENETIC (P. Hammersley) became fractious in the barriers, lunged forward and struck the barrier partition. KENETIC was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be bleeding from the offside nostril. As a result, KENETIC was a late scratching at 1.03 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KENETIC be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

12 cents in the dollar for the Win #6 – ALL BUT GREY
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6 – ALL BUT GREY
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #11 – LITTLE RIP SNORTER
20 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10 – LITTLE MRS MURPHY

LITTLE MISS MURPHY (R. Hancock) blundered at the start.

TAT’S IMAGE (W. Abbey) was slow to begin.

MOTHER’S LUCK (N. Yamada), ASHA SECRET (K. Wharton) and INDECISION (J. Bowditch) raced wide throughout.

Near the 600m ASHA SECRET (K. Wharton), when racing greenly, shifted out resulting in COUGAR FISH (D. Griffin) being inconvenienced.

LITTLE MISS MURPHY raced greenly approaching and rounding the home turn and near the 350m put in an awkward stride, became unbalanced and lost ground when racing in restricted room between VOZAMIAT and FAIRGLASE (L. Cheshire).

VOZAMIAT (M. Abe) was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

ALL BUT GREY (T. Harrison) hung out and proved difficult to ride rounding the home turn.

At the entrance to the straight ASHA SECRET shifted out resulting in INDECISION being taken wider on the track.

Over the final 100m INDECISION laid in under pressure.

Race 2: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1520M
1st – Subsequent 2nd – Ma Royal Hiney 3rd – More Dust 4th – Leo Jet

HERECOMESTHERAIN (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly.

LEO JET (M. Hellyer) and LA DOUBT (L. Cheshire) raced three wide throughout.

ROCKLEA RAIDER (K. Yoshida) overraced in the early and middle stages.

In the early part of the home straight SUBSEQUENT had to shift out around the heels of SUNDAE DREAMIN’ (J. Bowditch) in order to improve.

MORE DUST (D. Griffin) was held up when unable to secure clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

Near the 250m ROYAL SAVIVRE was inconvenienced when MORE DUST shifted out.

Rider N. Yamada reported that he restrained NEW RANGER from the wide barrier in the early stages and settled at the rear of the field to comply with his instructions and when he attempted to improve his position approaching the home turn the gelding resented racing between ROYAL SAVIVRE and SUBSEQUENT and for this reason he shifted wider on the track in order to improve and NEW RANGER finished the race off well.

Stewards sought an explanation from R. Wiggins regarding HERECOMESTHERAIN leading today, which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. R. Wiggins explained that he was advised to ride the gelding in a forward position and when he was caught wide approaching the first turn near the 1300m he elected to ride forward to the lead. Trainer B. Ahrens confirmed these instructions and advised that he has given similar instructions at the gelding’s two most recent starts but circumstances have prevented HERECOMESTHERAIN being ridden in that manner. Mr Ahrens was reminded of his obligations to inform stewards of his intention to vary the tactics on his runners in the future.

Race 3: SHARE YALUMBA QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
1st – Perfect Glory 2nd – Regillus 3rd – Jet Star Baby 4th – Ahsoka Tano

Trainer T. Gollan was fined $100 for failing to scratch EUREKA DAZZLER by the required time.

SO UNFORGETTABLE (W. O'Connell) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with PRINCE DAT (C. Munce), which was taken in on to the hind quarters of LITTLE BIT MAGIC (G. Colless).

WACO OPTION (M. Hellyer) also jumped awkwardly and shifted in making contact with DOCTOR DAVID (N. Yamada). A short distance later WACO OPTION was tightened for room between DOCTOR DAVID and REGILLUS (J. Taylor) which shifted in.

ROUBLE ROSE (D. Green) shifted in at the start and made heavy contact with AHSOKA TANO (A. Kitson).

After passing the 1000m DOCTOR DAVID (N. Yamada) had to be eased when tightened for room between ROUBLE ROSE and REGILLUS which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer S. Foster was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of REGILLUS.

LITTLE BIT MAGIC, JET STAR BABY (K. Yoshida) and HAMMERSWAY (S. Apthorpe) raced three wide throughout.

Near the 800m DOCTOR DAVID, which was inclined to overrace, had to be eased when tightened for room between ROUBLE ROSE, which shifted out slightly, and PERFECT GLORY (D. Griffin), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. D. Griffin was issued with a reprimand and advised to provide his fellow riders with greater clearance when shifting ground in the future.

After passing the 800m WACO OPTION had to be checked when tightened for room by BOLD NOVA (S. Drake), which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer G. Cornish was advised that BOLD NOVA must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.

JET STAR BABY hung out rounding the home turn.

DOCTOR DAVID raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

C. Munce reported that PRINCE DAT raced greenly throughout the event and in his opinion will benefit from today’s race.

Race 4: IPSWICH PRO DRIVE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Benji’s World 2nd – Jondy Taan 3rd – Johanne’s Diamond 4th – Grace Got Mail

DASHING DARYL (W. O'Connell), which slipped over in the enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to race.

DASHING DARYL was slow to begin and then hampered soon after the start between JONDY TAAN (A. Spinks) and MAKE HAAY (T. Harrison).

ROCK AROUND (S. Drake) was slow to begin.

W. O’Connell, the rider of DASHING DARYL, was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to continually shift out whilst under the whip over the final 300m which resulted in DASHING DARYL finishing the race extremely wide on the track.

After passing the 200m GRACE WITH FIRE (M. Hellyer) shifted out abruptly under pressure and became unbalanced when corrected by its rider.

W. O’Connell was issued with a reprimand for excessive use of the whip on DASHING DARYL in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAKE HAAY revealed the filly to have blood in its nearside nostril. Trainer G. Burke was advised that MAKE HAAY must gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to its next start.

Race 5: BROTHERS IPSWICH LEAGUES CLUB & OLD BOYS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1680M
1st – Utmost Faith 2nd – Rocking Easy 3rd – Waiting Room 4th – Classic Country

Correct weight was delayed to enable apprentice J. Hull to view the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against UTMOST FAITH (T. Bell) for interference over the final 100m. After viewing the film apprentice Hull indicated that he did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

THE CAT CAN DANCE (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.

When the pace steadied passing the 1400m I’M A SINGLE LADY (L. Rolls), KAMARAH (R. Hancock) and THE CAT CAN DANCE all overraced. As a result of THE CAT CAN DANCE overracing, it improved up on to the heels of SWEET LITTLE FILLY (G. Colless) and had to shift wider on the track. THE CAT CAN DANCE raced three wide for the remainder of the event.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight ROCKING EASY (J. Hull) had difficulty securing clear running.

Race 6: BROTHERS FOOTBALL CLUB IPSWICH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Beeby Gem 2nd – King Capo 3rd – Just Betty 4th – Athabasca

Upon arrival at the barriers DAADS ORDER (A. Spinks) was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg. DAADS ORDER was subsequently withdrawn at 4.08 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DAADS ORDER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

5 cents in the dollar for the Win #13 – BEEBY GEM
8 cents in the dollar for place of winner #13 – BEEBY GEM
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5 – KING CAPO
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6 – JUST BETTY

Trainer F. Braybrook was advised that she will be required to supply a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to DAADS ORDER racing again.

PARIAS (A. Smith), MACKENZIE (C. Whiteley) and LUNAR CYCLE (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.

Near the 1200m RAINS (C. Munce) shifted in and bumped MACKENZIE.

After leaving the 1100m and where the false rail meets up with the course proper, JOH THE PAINTER (T. Harrison) momentarily shifted inside the line of the running rail which resulted in the gelding striking the fence near the 1000m and becoming unbalanced. Apprentice T. Harrison was advised to be mindful of her mounts’ positioning in races.

HIDDEN STAR (A. Kitson) raced three wide throughout.

After passing the 1000m JOH THE PAINTER had to be steadied when tightened for room by KING CAPO (P. Keane), which was taken in by ATHABAASCA (P. Hammersley). P. Hammersley was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

JOH THE PAINTER and PARIAS struck the running rail near the 900m. At the same stage LUNAR CYCLE (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied when tightened for room between MACKENZIE and PRESIDENTIAL (R. Hurdle), which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice Hurdle was issued with a reprimand and advised to take greater care when shifting ground.

In the home straight PARIAS was disappointed for clear running between HIDDEN STAR and RAINS, and over the concluding stages shifted to the outside of the heels of RAINS in order to improve.

G. Colless reported that NO IDENTITY was disappointing when placed under pressure over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of NO IDENTITY revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of JOH THE PAINTER revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Palmer was advised that before the horse is permitted to race again it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and he must produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding, including the results of an ECG.

Race 7: IRL DIGGERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Abdicated 2nd – One To Go 3rd – Cousine Island 4th – Zamboni

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer P. Nolan for the late scratching of TRAGEDY.

LE CONNOISSEUR (G. Colless), which reared and dislodged its rider at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

DOUG’S JET (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

VITAL ORGAN (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room at the start between RED HOT HUSSLER (R. McMahon) and MILLYEN (D. Griffin).

Passing the 1000m LE CONNOISSEUR had to be steadied from the heels of COUSINE ISLAND (M. Vance) which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice Vance was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in the future.

ONE TO GO (T. Harrison) overraced in the early stages.

ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON (A. Allen) raced wide throughout the event.

ABDICATED (C. Whiteley) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until near the 150m where it shifted out around the heels of ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON to improve and in doing so bumped LE CONNOISSEUR which was weakening.

VITAL ORGAN shifted out abruptly approaching the 200m resulting in CONSTANT CRAVING (P. Hammersley) being taken wider on the track.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER (J. Johnson) was held up for clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

When provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of LE CONNOISSEUR, G. Colless stated that the gelding travelled well in a trailing position until placed under pressure rounding the home turn and was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce, the rider of DOUG’S JET, regarding the poor performance of that filly. Jockey Munce was at a loss to explain the performance and added that at no stage did the horse travel comfortably in the event. Trainer M. Nolan was also at a loss to explain the performance and indicated that he would have the horse scoped and have blood samples taken and forward those results to stewards. A post-race veterinary examination of DOUG’S JET revealed no abnormalities.
