Race 1: SKY RACING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1700M
1st – O’Grady 2nd – Bach 3rd – Soaring Angel 4th – Gorgeous Goldie

Correct weight was delayed when apprentice R. Ride, the rider of 2nd placegetter BACH, wished to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether she had grounds for an objection against the winner O’GRADY (J. Byrne) in the home straight. After viewing the official film, connections indicated that they did not wish to proceed with an objection.

MASHABA (P. Schmidt) lost ground when tightened for room on jumping away between IVAN’S CHOICE (G. Cooksley) and SOARING ANGEL (K. Yoshida), which was taken out by BACH (R. Ride).

LADY MARY (J. Taylor) raced wide in the early stages of the race.

O’GRADY was inclined to shift in under pressure over the final 200m and shifted in on two occasions brushing BACH.

J. Byrne (O’GRADY) was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 2: CHANNEL 7 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1530M
1st – Sir William 2nd – Exone 3rd – Mako Shark 4th – Only One Annie

As G. Colless was ill, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of EXONE.

The start was delayed when RENIERAE ((T. Harrison) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer K. Purdy was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s manners.

RENIERAE began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of ONLY ONE ANNIE (J. Taylor) and lost ground as a result.

Trainers A. Jeynes (SABER LILLY) and B. Park (SIENNA ROYAL) were advised that in view of the uncompetitive performances of their respective runners, their nomination at TAB meetings would be refused until such time as the horses establish improved country form.

Race 3: QUEENSLAND TIMES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Higher Order 2nd – Busy Doin’ Nothin’ 3rd – Itala Prince 4th – Syrian Lioness

HIGHER ORDER (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

SYRIAN LIONESS (R. Ride) overraced and raced wide in the early and middle stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EDDIE BIDDER BOY, rider G. Cooksley stated that in his opinion the horse was not comfortable in today’s heavy conditions and that a step up in grade and the 59 kg impost were telling factors in today’s performance. Trainer P. Duff, whilst disappointed, did agree with G. Cooksley’s assessment and gave a further undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to his attention in the ensuing days which may have affected the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of EDDIE BIDDER BOY failed to reveal any abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.

Stewards questioned apprentice R. Ride regarding the early tactics adopted on SYRIAN LIONESS in that the mare raced in a three wide position sharing the lead. Apprentice Ride advised stewards that SYRIAN LIONESS overraced in the early and middle stages and would not settle despite her efforts and as a result she was obliged to race in a wide position. Stewards accepted her explanation.

Race 4: GREENBANK SPORT & RECREATION CLUB INC. C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Trophy Hunter 2nd – Wrecker 3rd – Nice Red 4th – Soho Nights

BOLD PROSPECT (D. Robinson), JOGWALLY (W. O'Connell) and EARLY MARC (A. Pattillo) were all slow to begin.

TROPHY HUNTER (K. Yoshida) jumped out at the start making contact with SOHO NIGHTS (D. Tanti), and when being corrected shifted in making contact with BOLD PROSPECT.

Near the 900m SOHO NIGHTS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WRECKER (C. Maund), which hung in.

Leaving the 900m SHINZO MASHURANBO (T. Harrison) had to be steadied when tightened for room when racing between ROCK SENS (S. Apthorpe) and TROPHY HUNTER, which hung in.

Near the 700m ROCK SENS, when overracing, shifted out making contact with TROPHY HUNTER, which was taken in slightly by WRECKER. ROCK SENS continued to overrace for a short distance afterwards.

Leaving the 600m SOHO NIGHTS commenced to hang out and continued to do so for the remainder of the race.

Leaving the 300m BOLD PROSPECT had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of EARLY MARC, which shifted in to obtain clear running. A. Pattillo (EARLY MARC) was advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

WRECKER lost its off hind plate in running.


Race 5: VINCULUM ACCOUNTING F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Poppy’s Revenge 2nd – Don’t Tell Cyril 3rd – Keep Your Hat On 4th – Forever Yours

A pre-race veterinary examination of POPPY’S REVENGE (R. Wiggins), which had not started for some considerable time, cleared the mare to race.

LIGHT FANTANGO (N. Evans), AUTHORITATIVE (J. Byrne), KEEP YOUR HAT ON (M. Hellyer) and OUR LITTLE MISSY (T. Harrison) were all slow to begin.

KEEP YOUR HAT ON overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained off the heels of TROPICANA MISS (L. Cheshire).

OUR LITTLE MISSY raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TROPICANA MISS, rider L. Cheshire stated that the mare travelled well until the 400m but when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and commenced to compound badly. She added that in her opinion the horse may have held its breath. A post-race veterinary examination of TROPICANA MISS revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that he must trial the mare to the stewards’ satisfaction and provide the results of an ECG prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LIGHT FANTANGO, rider N. Evans stated that the mare, which was having its first race start and on a heavy track, raced greenly throughout the event and was not comfortable on the heavy track conditions. He added that in his opinion the 59 kg impost was also a factor in the horse’s performance. Trainer T. Smit agreed with jockey N. Evans’ assessment and advised that he would refrain from starting the horse on heavy track surfaces in future. Mr Smit was advised that although stewards noted the explanations for the performance, a warning would nonetheless be placed on the horse for being uncompetitive.


Race 6: RAINBOW SMASH QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Royal Consort 2nd – Campionessa 3rd – Almasea 4th – On Ice Now

MUST BE THE ONE (D. Tanti) began very awkwardly and lost ground.

ANNIE’S BRIDGE (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.

A post-race veterinary examination of ANNIE’S BRIDGE failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 7: GREENBANK RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Mann Magic 2nd – Show Meira 3rd – Smart Cookie 4th – The Best

Following persistent light rain after the running of Race 6, the track was downgraded to HEAVY 10 for this event.

NAKANAI (L. Rolls) was slow to begin.

On jumping away WHYDON’TYALIKEME (T. Harrison) shifted in and away from MANN MAGIC (M. Vance) and in doing so made contact with SMART COOKIE (R. Jamieson), which in turn made contact with GLOW ROAD (M. Hellyer).

Approaching and joining up with the course proper MANN MAGIC shifted in slightly, forcing SMART COOKIE in on to GLOW ROAD, which had to be momentarily steadied when forced to race inside the line of the rail. Apprentice M. Vance (MANN MAGIC) was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

GLOW ROAD had to be steadied near the 500m when crowded for room by MONDE BIJOU (D. Robinson), which shifted in.

C. Maund reported that SHOW MEIRA was not entirely comfortable in today’s heavy track conditions.

MONDE BIJOU lost its off fore plate in running.
