The start was delayed when KING’S ROMANCE (R. Wiggins) was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and was cleared to start. The start was further delayed when HAULAGE (D. Griffin) became fractious in the barriers. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon HAULAGE was also cleared to start.

SO SHARPLY (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start HAULAGE was tightened for room between WINDBREAKER (A. Allen) and AUSSIE AGENDA (C. Maund), which hung out.

RABANAL (T. Harrison) shifted in at the start making contact with PAULINA (D. Sparks).

TAYSTAR (G. Cooksley) raced wide in the early stages until a point leaving the 1200m where it improved forward to race outside the leader.

MARKED AFFAIR (J. Johnson) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m THIRD TIME LUCKY (K. Wharton) had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring PAULINA.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of THIRD TIME LUCKY, trainer B. Sturgess stated that he had been disappointed with the horse’s previous performance and in an effort to turn the horse’s form around he experimented with the addition of blinkers. He added that today the horse seemed to settle and race more comfortably travelling on the rails as previously it also had a tendency to hang when positioned off the rails.

G. Cooksley (TAYSTAR) was fined $400 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. In considering penalty, stewards took into account G. Cooksley’s recent poor record in regard to this rule.

A post-race veterinary examination of KING’S ROMANCE revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of PAULINA revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of HAULAGE revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to its offside heel.

Trainer B. Baker reported that TIKKA MASALA (R. Goltz) had sustained an injury to the offside eye as a result of being struck by a clod.

Race 2: ULTRA TUNE IPSWICH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1666M
1st – Awesome Ransom 2nd – Tenacious Jack 3rd – Lentini Mist 4th – Indecision

The start of this race was delayed when the bridle on ALL COIN (L. Rolls) had to be refitted.

On jumping away INDECISION (G. Cooksley) jumped out making contact with AWESOME RANSOM (M. Hellyer), which became unbalanced and shifted in making contact with INDECISION, losing ground as a result.

RUNNING SOLO (A. Mundy) raced ungenerously shortly after the start and for some distance threw its head in the air when being restrained.

Near the 1400m TOUCH ME KNOTT (L. Cassidy) commenced to overrace and shifted to a three-wide position approaching the 1200m and raced wide from that point onwards.

INDECISION was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

AWESOME RANSOM was inclined to hang in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: MASTERMAC2000 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

CAUGHT UNAWARE became unbalanced rounding the home turn and had to be steadied.

Race 4: IPSWICH KNIGHTS SOCCER CLUB QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1350M

Race 5: GIBB ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Poppy’s Revenge 2nd – Show Meira 3rd – Starlistic 4th – That’s Karma

Trainer N. Hocking advised stewards it would be the intention to ride BOLSTER (R. Goltz) aggressively from the barriers to obtain a forward position if possible. After beginning well, a short distance after the start BOLSTER was crowded for room between POPPY’S REVENGE (R. Wiggins), which shifted out, and SKILFUL PAT (M. Hellyer), which shifted in, and when being restrained commenced to race ungenerously and lost ground, resulting in the horse being unable to take up a forward position.

NAKANAI (L. Rolls) and LITTLE MISS VICKY (K. Wharton) were tightened on jumping away between STARLISTIC (R. McMahon), which jumped outwards, and SHOW MEIRA (C. Maund), which jumped inwards.

GELIDO (M. Hellyer), BUILT TOUGH (P. Wolfgram) and FORBIDDEN DRAGON (D. Robinson) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned jockey A. Pattillo regarding the early tactics he adopted on SUNSETS ON FIRE, which usually leads in its races but today settled at the rear of the field. Jockey Pattillo stated that after beginning fairly, SUNSETS ON FIRE was unable to show the necessary speed to cross runners to his inside and rather than being caught extremely wide on the horse, he elected to restrain the horse back behind the pace in an endeavour to find a position closer to the rails. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 7: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Busy Doin’ Nothin’ 2nd – Brampton 3rd – Damage And Blue 4th – Triple Elite

Leaving the 1100m BRAMPTON (A. Allen) commenced to race fiercely and near the 1000m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SYRIAN LIONESS (R. Ride), which shifted in when not fully clear. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of BRAMPTON, apprentice Ride was nonetheless advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. As a result of the racing manners of BRAMPTON, it was obliged to raced wide for the majority of the event.
