Race 1: THE HAGGARTY GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP – 1520M
LEICA PEGASUS (T. Wolfgram) and BURN AND TURN (B. Appo) were slow to begin.
DAILY PLANET (S. Payne) jumped awkwardly and blundered shortly afterwards.
D. Missen, the rider of PROUD WARRIOR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1350m he allowed his mount to shift in where there was insufficient room for GREENWOOD ECHO (L. Rolls) and DEKARNAGE (S. Lanigan), resulting in both runners being tightened for room, having to be checked and losing ground. D. Missen's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 11 May and expire at midnight on Sunday 19 May 2013 .
DAILY PLANET and NODLAND (M. Speers) both raced wide throughout.
NODLAND, which commenced to yield ground from the 600m, hung out at a point leaving the 500m, forcing DAILY PLANET wider on the track.
Race 2: IPSWICH PARK2PARK BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1620M
Shortly after the start SECOND GO (J. Johnson) was tightened for room and lost ground between CARLSON'S FELT (N. Evans) and HOW FAIRDINKUM (A. Butler), which shifted out.
HOW FAIRDINKUM raced wide throughout and was forced wider near the 500m and as a result made the home turn extremely wide.
SAINT LENNY (B. Appo) was disappointed for a run rounding the home turn between OUR GOLD STASH (S. Payne) and the tiring FLOOD HERO (A. Spinks), and again had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance near the 200m.
EASY LAGER (S. Lanigan) was held up rounding the home turn at the heels of the tiring SINGLE IN LONDON (Matthew Palmer).
Stewards afforded jockey Matthew Palmer the opportunity to comment on the performance of SINGLE IN LONDON, which was below market expectations. Jockey Palmer stated that SINGLE IN LONDON travelled well in the early and middle stages, however failed to respond when placed under pressure from the 500m and in his opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer R. Lipp confirmed his intention to send SINGLE IN LONDON for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SINGLE IN LONDON revealed no abnormalities.
Race 3: RAMSAY PLUMBING & DRAINAGE MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
JET BLAZE was a late scratching at 9.17 am for veterinary reasons.
Connections advised that KARMA FORCE (D. Missen), which had been going forward in its races, would be ridden back in the field today from the bad alley. The horse was ridden accordingly and from the wide alley was obliged to race wide throughout.
The start of this race was delayed when PASSING GLANCES (Michael Palmer) refused to be loaded. As a result, PASSING GLANCES was declared a late scratching at 1.13 pm. Trainer G. Heinrich's stable representative was advised that PASSING GLANCES must perform satisfactorily in two official barrier trials before being permitted to race again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PASSING GLANCES be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
8 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
10 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4
Shortly after the start DIAMONEEZE (M. Speers) blundered.
Approaching the 1000m FINGER ONTHE PULSE (B. Appo) became awkward and shifted out for a short distance.
OLD FEELING (J. Morris) raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to assume a position outside the lead near the 700m.
DIAMONEEZE, which raced wide throughout, hung out when rounding the home turn.
Over the concluding stages FINGER ONTHE PULSE had a tendency to lay in under pressure causing its rider to stop riding with the whip and ride hands and heels.
On return to scale it was noted that the saddle on DIAMONEEZE had slipped back in the running.
TELMEMORE (A. Holt) lost a plate in running.
Race 4: NUGROW IPSWICH FESTIVAL CUP QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 2130M
Connections advised that if circumstances permit MOBSTER (D. Missen) would be ridden in a forward position as at its most recent start the horse had a tendency to overrace when ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
FIFTH COLUMN (M. Abe) jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.
ZAGAMI (A. Butler) was hampered on jumping away when MISHANI EDGE (M. Speers) shifted in.
When the pace slackened passing the winning post on the first occasion LUCKY DAY KID (J. Johnson) commenced to overrace and shifted out making contact with MOBSTER, and a short distance later was checked from the heels of HILLARY'S CLANG (B. Appo). ZAGAMI, which was following, also commenced to overrace and made the first turn awkwardly, shifting wider on the track, forcing both MISHANI EDGE and FANCY FERN (A. Merritt) wider.
FIFTH COLUMN raced wide in the early stages.
Near the 500m LUCKY DAY KID, after improving into a doubtful run between HILLARY'S CLANG and MOBSTER, was forced to check when tightened for room between those two horses as a result of MOBSTER being steadied when taken in by MISHANI EDGE, which shifted in slightly. Given the circumstances surrounding the incident, no direct action was taken by stewards.
Rounding the home turn MISHANI EDGE laid in for a short distance.
Race 5: SHEDZONE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1010M
RICHMOND GROVE (M. Speers) and PHOENIX FORCE (T. Wolfgram) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 500m RICHMOND GROVE hung out, forcing both PHOENIX FORCE and FALLFORME (B. Appo) wider on the track.
PHOENIX FORCE and RICHMOND GROVE both laid in under pressure in the home straight, resulting in T. Wolfgram being unable to fully test PHOENIX FORCE.
On return to scale A. Erhart reported that STILL WAITING raced greenly throughout and as a result finished a distant last. Trainer S. Hinks was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of STILL WAITING. Mr Hinks reported that STILL WAITING sustained minor lacerations to the off hind hock during the event.
Race 6: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
As apprentice B. Richardson advised she was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil her engagement on YOUR GIRL OR MINE, apprentice S. Payne was substituted as the rider of that runner. B. Richardson was fined $100 under AR. 85B for failing to fulfil her engagement.
SEEYAMONDAY (J. Morris) was slow to begin.
CHIDE (B. Appo), which hung out, raced wide throughout.
DANCING AL (T. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout.
Near the 500m CHIDE had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track, forcing DANCING AL wider on the track when avoiding the heels of YOUR GIRL OR MINE (S. Payne), which shifted out to improve. Apprentice S. Payne was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
ROMAN WATERS (B. Powell) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Stewards opened an inquiry into apprentice J. Johnson's riding of ILLUDE during the early and middle stages, along with further concerns with her riding in the home straight. After taking initial evidence from trainer S. Hamilton and apprentice Johnson, stewards adjourned the inquiry to enable them to review ILLUDE's previous starts and for Ms Johnson's master to be present.
Race 7: TRANSIT AUSTRALIA CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1350M
KARL THE GREAT was a late scratching at 10.45 am by order of stewards acting under AR. 178E when, following a stable inspection this morning, it was found that KARL THE GREAT had received treatment this morning. An inquiry into this matter has been adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
Trainer R. Lipp was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Johnson as the rider of KISS ME DEADLY by the prescribed time.
Trainers S. Kendrick (THE LAST GENERAL), J. Dann (TEA TATTLE), M. Lakey (KEVEJON) and R. Lipp (KISS ME DEADLY) were reprimanded for failing to present their respective runners to the enclosure by the prescribed time.
KEVEJON (S. Shield) and TEA TATTLE (T. Wolfgram) were both slow to begin.
Leaving the 200m TEA TATTLE was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of LET'S COMMAND (S. Payne), which shifted in. As a result, TEA TATTLE became unbalanced, causing its rider to lose the use of his nearside iron until approaching the 100m.
Race 8: R T EDWARDS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
FAIR EXPECTATION (S. Payne) was slow to begin.
ITALA PRINCE (S. Shield) and HOLEY GADOLEY (B. Appo) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with PRISCILLA'S STAR (L. Rolls).
Leaving the 900m HOLEY GADOLEY, which was overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of BELLE VERDE (J. Johnson).
QUIZETTE (A. Pattillo), which overraced at the heels of PASSIVITY (B. Richardson), was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
On return to scale jockey M. Palmer reported that it had been his intention to ride SUNSET AFFAIR in a more forward position, however from the bad alley he was forced to restrain further back in the field than he would have liked.
