Goold was substituted as the rider of that gelding. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by apprentice Allen for his late arrival on course.

Due to complications with the official set of scales, stewards used a back-up set of scales for the remainder of the meeting, however delays were caused to the starting times of Races 2 and 3 as a result.

The start was further delayed when HEART OF MANY (M. Hellyer) broke through the front of the barriers and completed a lap of the course riderless. HEART OF MANY was declared a late scratching at 2.22 pm. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that HEART OF MANY took fright from another runner that became fractious in the stalls, and as a result stewards took no further action. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HEART OF MANY be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2.22 pm.
