KING AND DOWLING RURAL
RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 0800 METRES 6 STARTERS
After being placed in the barriers MAGIC OF THE DANCE (A. Spradau), BLEA TARN (L. Critoph) and SPARKLE MAN (Apprentice H. Watanabe) all broke through the front gates of the starting stalls, but were quickly restrained by their respective riders and returned to the starting point. MAGIC OF THE DANCE (A. Spradau) then proved very difficult for the attendants to re-load, thus delaying the start of the race. When a start was effected both MAGIC OF THE DANCE (A. Spradau) and PIMPALA GOVERNOR (Apprentice L. Attard) jumped away awkwardly resulting in both the horses brushing the inside gate of their respective starting stalls. Subsequently, both horses lost some ground. No incidents in running.

JULIA CREEK IGA AND McCLARTY CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 0800 METRES 8 STARTERS
MONDE ROUGE (Apprentice L. Attard) lost ground when a start was effected, due to the horse being slow into stride. Approaching the 700 metre mark, STRONG ACE (L. Critoph) hung outwards slightly at the same time NEWPARK BROKER (J. Esser) had a tendency to hang inwards despite the efforts of its rider to keep a straight course, resulting in ALASKAN LAD (A. Spradau) who was racing in between these two runners to have to ease momentarily. Stewards advised both jockeys L. Critoph and J. Esser to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. On returning to scale, it was noted that NEWPARK BROKER had the appearance of a trickle of blood in one nostril.

JULIA CREEK HOTEL
RACE 3 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1600 METRES 4 STARTERS
SESSION was scratched after final acceptances. No racing incidents.

XXXX AND QUEENSLAND RAIL
RACE 4 OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 6 STARTERS
When a start was effected both KILIONE (Apprentice L Attard) and DISCIPLINE (Ms D Slack-Smith) lost considerable ground when both horses were very slow into stride. WHISTLING DANCER (M. Cummings) hung outwards when rounding the turn to the home straight resulting in ARGOLD (Mr. PB Browning) to race wider on the track. On returning to scale Jockey M. Cummings reported to the Stewards that his mount WHISTLING DANCER had a tendency to hang outwards from the 800 metre mark onwards.

FOSSIL TRAIL SERIES
RACE 5 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 11 STARTERS
BACHELOR BOY was scratched after final acceptances. Whilst waiting to be loaded into the starting stalls GOLD CLUB (J. Dittman) broke free of the attendants and raced at a full gallop back towards the horse stabling area, resulting in the horse making very heavy contact with a boundary fence. Subsequently, the horse was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards and prior to correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies wagered on the withdrawn horse to be refunded with betting deductions of 10 cents the win and 10 cents the place on all bets made prior to the withdrawal of the horse (in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act 1980). When a start was effected both GLUTTON (J. Camilleri) and CRAFTLY LAD (K. Ballard) lost ground when both horses were slow into stride. Approaching the 800 metre mark CRAFTY LAD (K. Ballard) hung outwards off the track and had to be eased to avoid the heels of KATARARE (A. Spradau). The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that on examination of the withdrawn horse GOLD CLUB the only abnormality she could detect was a slight abrasion to the horse’s brisket area. Stewards informed the horse’s trainer Mr. R.J. Snelling that in view of all the circumstances, they would not be placing any type of embargo on the horse.

GM & SA LONSDALE
RACE 6 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 8 STARTERS
CURRENT MISS was scratched after final acceptances. Both ARRAIGN (L. Critoph) and NEVER SEEN (J. Esser) had a tendency to hang outwards off the track from the 800 metre mark onwards. No other racing incidents.
