General: As App R Payne was injured at trackwork this morning, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary sheet. App Payne was advised she would require a medical certificate prior to her next race or trial ride.

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m

Both PUBLIC ADDRESS and RHYTHMIC PRINCESS were declared late scratchings at 8:07am as a result of no rider being available.

PARISIAN PEARL was declared late scratching at 12:05 pm after the mare became very fractious in the raceday tie-up stalls and was unable to be saddled. J Casey, trainer of PARISIAN PEARL, indicated to stewards the mare would be immediately retired, however was advised if circumstances were to change PARISIAN PEARL would be required to satisfactorily trial prior to its next race start.

BLACK CHEVY (App T Williams) was declared a late scratching at 12:31pm when the gelding was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Trainer M Bailey was advised a barrier certificate would be required prior to its next race start.

As a result of the scratchings of PARISIAN PEARL and BLACK CHEVY, stewards ordered the following deductions to apply:

Bets made prior to 12:05pm to be paid less 15 cents win and 17 cents place face value of tickets; and bets made after 12:05pm and prior to 12:31pm to be paid less 6 cents win and 7 cents place face value of tickets.

M Okada was incorrectly shown as the rider of JUNIOR HEIST when App N Ogura was the declared rider of that gelding.

AIN’T GOING DOWN (N Evans) and RED BUGATTI (B Powell) were both checked at the start between MYSTIC MEDUSA (S Apthorpe) and CRAIGLEA OPAL (D McWhinney) which shifted in abruptly.

Race 2: CLASS 1 HDCP - 1000m

DANCIN MICK was declared a late scratching at 12:45pm when no rider was available.

Correct weight was delayed to allow L Appo, rider of 4th placegetter GENERAL KINGSMAN to view the photo finish image. After viewing the image correct weight was declared on the placings as semaphored by the judge.

At the start DEVER’S EXPRESS (App T Williams) shifted out and bumped heavily with BUTCH (B Powell) which became unbalanced and lost ground.

CRAIGLEA EVITA (D McWhinney) and LUCSTANA (App N Ogura) came together on jumping.

BULLET ONE (App B Stower) and LUCSTANA both raced wide throughout.

LUCSTANA had a tendency to lay in under pressure from a point leaving the 200 metres until the 100 metres.

When questioned regarding the below market performance of BULLET ONE, apprentice Stower stated despite being caught wide the gelding travelled well in the run, however when placed under pressure failed to run on, and in her opinion was disappointing. Trainer T Sears concurred with App Stowers comments and indicated it was his intention to immediately spell BULLET ONE.

M Dorrington, rider of fifth placegetter CLEVER TRICK , was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on that runner when required to do so.

Race 3: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP - 1200m

BELL’S EXPRESS (App B Newport) was slow to begin.

MONTO (App B Stower) shifted out at the start and bumped SLUMDOGMILLIONAIRE (N Evans)

LEICA FUSE (Appo N Ogura) and MONTO both raced wide throughout.

Near the 350metres SLUMDOGMILLIONAIRE was obliged to steady away from the heels of MONTO which shifted inwards.

Following the event the club vet reported that IN MY FACE (L Appo) had pulled up sore in the off fore leg. Trainer S McEwan advised it was her intention to immediately spell the gelding.

Race 4: CLASS B HDCP - 1200m

The start of this event was delayed when N Evans, rider of JUST WATCHER, was dislodged behind the barriers. After cantering for a short distance the mare was returned to the barriers, examined by the club vet and passed fit to start.

CRAIGLEA COPPER (D McWhinney) was slow to begin.

GOLD CITY CROWN (App B Newport) began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

LEMAITRE (App T Williams) was checked at the start between JUST WATCHER (N Evans) and SCOTCH ROCKET (M Dorrington) which shifted in abruptly.

Leaving the 800 metre turn LEMAITRE shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped GOLD CITY CROWN. As a result GOLD CITY CROWN became unbalanced and commenced to lay out from that point until entering the home straight.

When questioned regarding tactics adopted on CRAIGLEA COPPER, rider D McWhinney stated after being slow to begin the gelding raced greenly and was unable to hold it’s position in the field despite his efforts. He added however when placed under full pressure in the straight CRAIGLEA COPPER responded to his riding and finished the race off fairly. Stewards accepted the explanation of D McWhinney.

Race 5: KUMBIA CUP OPEN HDCP - 1200m

I’M THE ONE (App B Newport) was slow to begin.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of DOM PAOLO (S Apthorpe), Trainer J Hearne stated he was not entirely disappointed with the gelding’s most recent effort at Wondai and in his opinion DOM PAOLO appreciated todays firm surface and was also fitter for its third run back this preparation. Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr Hearne.
