1st - TWO SEASONS 2nd – MIO AMICO 3rd - MONTSERRAT 4th – SUBTLE GLANCE

Trainer Ms M. Stehbens made an application to stewards for Apprentice Michael Palmer to ride PERSHINKO over its declared weight. In the special circumstances, including that no other suitable rider was available, stewards permitted Apprentice Palmer to ride the horse 2 kilograms overweight.

MIO AMICO (App. A. Butler) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start BARWON RIVER (D. Simmons) and CHING HOI BOY (A. Cox) bumped.

In the early stages MONTSERRAT (App. L. Dillon) raced ungenerously and approaching the 1000 metres shifted out slightly and hampered SUBTLE GLANCE (T. Bannon).

Near the 200 metres AZZASON (D. Green) shifted in slightly and brushed PERSHINKO (App. M. Palmer).

BARWON RIVER (D. Simmons) and WATERFORD JACK (G. Kliese) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: XXXX Maiden Plate - 1050 metres
1st - CAMBRIDGE 2nd - TEMPO RUBATO 3rd - DOODAHIPPY SHAKE 4th – HEART IN TENNESSEE

SEQUALO JEWEL (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

CAMBRIDGE (D. Green) began awkwardly.

DESTINY PREVAILS (T. Bannon) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped STUFFIT (App. M. Palmer).

In the home straight CAMBRIDGE (D. Green) laid in under pressure.

A post-race veterinary examination of STUFFIT (App. M. Palmer), which tailed the field throughout, failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Race 3: COLL Plumbing Class 1 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st – EXERTION 2nd – FLYER BELLE 3rd – ROYAL ACTOR 4th – WESTERN CHAT

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Jockey S. Watkin for his dual engagements for FANCY BACHELOR and the First Emergency, BANK FEE, both of which gained a start. Jockey W. Binder was substituted as the rider of FANCY BACHELOR.

ROYAL ACTOR (T. Bannon) began awkwardly and shifted out, forcing REPEAT OFFENDER (A. Coome) out onto FICTION STAR (App. M. Palmer).

BANK FEE (S. Watkin) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start WESTERN CHAT (A. Cox) shifted in and made contact with FANCY BACHELOR (W. Binder)

App. A. Butler pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted EXERTION to shift in when insufficiently clear of BLUE SEQUINS (I. Toward), which was forced in across the running of PRANK CALLER (App. L. Dillon), which was checked and lost its rightful running. Apprentice Butler was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday, 15th July 2009, up to and including midnight on Saturday 25th July 2009 (3 meetings).

At about the 800 metres REPEAT OFFENDER (A. Coome) and ROYAL ACTOR (T. Bannon) raced in restricted room for a short distance when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FICTION STAR (App. M. Palmer), which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances App. Palmer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Following the race App. L. Dillon reported that PRANK CALLER hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 4: Robert Peel Jewellers Open Handicap – 1050 metres
1st - LITTLE DREAMER 2nd – KING CASH 3rd - DON CAUDILLO 4th – CAPTAIN VENTURI

Near the 800 metres KING CASH (A. Coome) improved into a narrow run between SNIFTER (N. Patchett) and DON CAUDILLO (D. Simmons) and was steadied.

Rounding the home turn YUKON LAD (App. M. Palmer) hung out.

CAMBOOYA (App. L. Dillon) and STIRLING (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Newsxpress Village Mackay Cup Handicap – 1800 metres

Shortly after the start XAARTRIK (App. A. Butler), which was slow to begin, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of FLYING TEST (D. Simmons) and became unbalanced.

Rounding the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion SHAMIR (T. Bannon) hung out around the heels of PURE SILENCE (G. Kliese) and in doing so forced SWAT (App. L. Dillon) wider.

In the early and middle stages LINE BY LINE (I. Toward) over-raced. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which performed below expectations

LEICA LAUNCH (N. Patchett) raced wide for the majority of the event.

TAYANSO (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.

Rounding the turn out of the straight on the first occasion THE CAT’S BACK (D. Green) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GREMMO (A. Cox), which shifted in slightly. BEACONSFIELD MINER (S. Watkin), which was following, was forced wider.

On the home turn TWO TONE (T. Bannon) improved up onto the heels of LA PIAZZA (App. M. Palmer) and was steadied.
