Supplementary Report

Gympie Turf Club – 24/10/2009

Trainer M. Cochrane was fined the sum of $100 for presenting LORD DANSEUR to race in the incorrect gear.

Race 1: WIN Television Class 5 Handicap – 1050 metres:
1st – Raffael Nediym 2nd - Admiral Gherkin 3rd - Subtle Glance 4th - Spinning Master

SPINNING MASTER (M.Usher) was slow to gather speed.

Approaching the 600m SPINNING MASTER began to hang out and as a result inconvenienced SUBTLE GLANCE (T. O’Hara) which was racing to its outside. SPINNING MASTER continued to hang out until rounding the home turn. Trainer J. Manzelmann advised that upon returning to scale it was discovered that SPINNING MASTER had shifted a plate which may have contributed to the gelding’s racing manners and as such no action was taken against the gelding.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on SUBTLE GALNCE, jockey T. O’Hara explained that despite her efforts the gelding was unable to keep pace with the field in the early stages and felt that the gelding may be looking for further in distance than today’s event. Trainer T. Cook confirmed the explanation of T. O’Hara.

Race 2: Robert Peel Jewellers Maiden Plate – 1500 metres:
1st – Sir Echo 2nd – Sure of Heart 3rd – Staccato 4th – Koon Kan

ROKU EXPRESS (A. Butler) was slow to begin.

KOON KAN (N. Patchett) overraced in the early stages.

ROKU EXPRESS raced wide for the majority of the event.

SURE OF HEART (D. Simmons) was taken three wide near the 600m when SIR ECHO (S. Watkin) shifted out to improve and as a consequence raced wide from that point onwards.

Race 3: Newsextra Class 3 Plate – 1500 metres:
1st – Cecilaloysius 2nd – La Friand 3rd – Eagledance Kid 4th – Irish Myth

WRIGHT HALF was declared a late scratching at 11:15am by order of the stewards. An announcement to this effect was made by the course announcer prior to the commencment of betting.

CECILALOYSIUS (S. Watkin) jumped awkwardly and shortly thereafter began to overrace and continued to do so for some distance. Jockey S. Watkin advised that due to the horse’s tendency to overrace in the early stages he allowed the horse to stride forward from a point leaving the 1200m to take up a position in the lead.

Near the 1100m POSTING (T. Bannon) was inconvenienced when IRISH MYTH (T. Bannon) shifted in and away from CECILALOYSIUS.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on IRISH MYTH, Apprentice A. Butler stated that when CECILALOYSIUS circled the field near the 1100m IRISH MYTH began to overrace and continued to do so for some distance. App. Butler further stated that he was hesitant to allow the gelding to travel forward with CECILAOYSIUS as in the past the gelding had failed to finish of its races after travelling in a forward position. App. Butler also stated that the gelding only finished off the race fairly and in his opinion the tendency of IRISH MYTH to overrace in the middle stages may have contributed to the horse’s performance today. The explanation was noted.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on LA FRIAND, jockey T. O’Hara stated that when CECILALOYSIUS circled the field near the 1100m she was slow to respond to the increase in tempo. However, she also stated that she was prevented from allowing LA FRIAND to improve without shifting three wide as the horses forward of her failed to respond to the increase in tempo set by CECILALOYSIUS. The explanation was noted.

Race 4: Impact Plant Hire Open Handicap – 1250 metres:
1st – Thin And Crispy 2nd – Sebastien 3rd – Solar Secret 4th – Frog

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow D. Simmons the rider of fifth placegetter WATERFORD JACK to view the photo finish for fourth and T. Cook the trainer of third placegetter SOLAR SECRET to view the photo finish for second. After viewing the official prints both parties were satisfied with the judge’s decision and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

FROG (S. Watkin) had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between THIN AND CRISPY (A. Butler) and WATERFORD JACK (D.Simmons) which shifted in.

Near the 500m FROG shifted out on its own accord resulting in SEBASTIEN (A. Batho) being inconvenienced.

WATERFORD JACK had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight, preventing its rider from riding the gelding out in his customary manner.

SOLAR SECRET suffered a bleeding attack from both nostrils. As this was the first time that SOLAR SECRET had suffered a bleeding attack trainer T. Cook was advised that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of three months under the provisions of AR 53A.

Jockey S. Watkin pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A(4)(e) in that he used his whip on FROG after the winning post. S. Watkin was fined the sum of $200.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of THE BIG EASY trainer W. Pomfrett stated that from an outside barrier THE BIG EASY did not have the pace to go forward with the leaders and as a result was forced to find cover towards the rear of the field. Mr. Pomfrett further stated that this was in contrast with the gelding’s normal racing pattern and may have contributed towards its disappointing performance today.

Race 5: Coca-Cola Class 2 Handicap – 1250 metres:
1st – Reve D’Or 2nd – Manu Peru 3rd – Red Aurum / She’s Exciting

REVE D’OR (A. Butler) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 1000m PRANK CALLER improved on to the heels of MANU PERU (T. Bannon) and had to be checked.

RED AURUM (D. Simmons) and LORD LUJAIN (A. Batho) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200m RED AURUM which had a tendency to lay in under pressure, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, D. Simmons, and made contact with MONTAZOA (M. Usher) which was taken in onto MANU PERU. Both MONTAZOA and MANU PERU became unbalanced for a short distance.

MANU PERU was held up rounding the home turn until a point nearing the 100m.
