In the early and middle stages RHODESIAN LASSY (D. Simmons) raced wide.

1st MR RISKY 2nd ISA TALA 3rd SIMBAROSA 4th - GOODNESS GRACIOUS
Stewards acceded to a request by trainer D. Johnston to allow ISA TALA (A. Coome) to race with winkers, on the assurance of Mr Johnston that the gear change had been correctly notified to RISA. However, Mr Johnston will be fined $100 under A.R. 54 if, after further inquiries from RISA, Mr Johnston is found to have failed to lodge the requisite gear change.
IT’S A SNIP (D. Hayse) and OH GOLLY (C. Pye) were slow to begin.
In the early stages OH GOLLY over-raced and then raced wide from the 800 metres.
ODE TO ME (T. Bannon) laid in under pressure for the majority of the straight.
Race 3: Daily Mercury Benchmark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres

Prior to the race stable representative for trainer R. Vale notified stewards that CLICK UP had been suffering from, a skin rash that had been treated in the days leading up to the event. CLICK UP was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
In the early and middle stages HOLDONTOYAHORSES (D. Evans) was inclined to over-race.
At the 700 metres ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON (App. E. Ljung) was inclined to lay in and bumped CLICK UP (A. Coome).
HEROIC ACTION (App. K. Grace) lost both hind plates in running.
Race 4: Hot FM Class 2 Handicap – 800 Metres
1st – ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH 2nd FRENCH GARRISON 3rd DUNCAN 4th - KANDASHAGAIN
Prior to the race connections of DUNCAN notified stewards that the gelding had a blocked tear duct, which was cleared on the Friday prior to today’s event. DUNCAN was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
The start was delayed when KANDASHAGAIN (D. Missen) proved extremely reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer D. Symons was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly’s manners.
HARDCOVER (App. A. Taylor) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start FRENCH GARRISON (D. Evans) was tightened for room and forced to ease when racing between KANDASHAGAIN (D. Missen) and ROSE OF LAWRENCE (D. Hayse).
At the 600 metres ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH (A. Coome) shifted out and bumped ROSE OF LAWRENCE (D. Hayse).
DUNCAN (C. Pye) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned Jockey D. Missen as to his riding of KANDASHAGAIN rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Of particular concern to stewards was whether there was an opportunity for KANDASHAGAIN to obtain clear running to the outside of GREAT GRETZKY, which would have afforded KANDASHAGAIN clear running for the remainder of the home straight, whereas Jockey Missen failed to obtain that run and as a result was unable to get fully clear until near the 200 metres. Jockey Missen advised that leading into the home turn he attempted to obtain clear running to the outside of GREAT GRETZKY, however that runner shifted out marginally and consequently Jockey Missen considered attempting to obtain running to the inside of that horse. Jockey Missen added that a short distance later GREAT GRETZKY shifted in and as a result he was then obliged to attempt to obtain clear running to the outside of that horse. Jockey Missen stated further that when attempting to obtain the run to the outside of GREAT GRETZKY, KANDASHAGAIN had a tendency to lay in and raced somewhat greenly, which he attributed to the gelding racing with a tongue-tie today for the first time. Jockey Missen said that on a number of occasions in the home straight he attempted to shift KANDASHAGAIN to the outside of the heels of GREAT GRETZKY, however his mount was reluctant to respond to his riding, laid in and continued to race greenly until a point after leaving the 200 metres, where he was able to shift to the outside of that runner’s heels and obtain clear running until the conclusion of the event. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5: The Event Centre Class 2 Handicap - 800 metres
1st SHORT TRIP 2nd - WISEGUY 3rd RATTLE THE TIN 4th - SUNSETS ON FIRE
Trainer M. Cochrane was fined $100 under A.R. 54 for presenting SIDE EFFECT with other than its approved gear, namely with blinkers rather than winkers.
STORMWOOD (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin.
From approaching the 100 metres until the finishing line STORMWOOD (T. O’Hara) was held up for clear running and was unable to be fully tested.
SIDE EFFECT (L. Dillon) and KICKDAHABIT (App. A. Taylor) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Bacardi Lion Class 1 Plate – 1200 metres
1st TAN TAT ALPHA 2nd STARFIRE LADY 3rd BJORN 4th - DIURNAL TIGER
TIS AWESOME (App. K. Grace) jumped with its head in the air and lost ground.
Near the 300 metres BJORN (App. A. Taylor) shifted out when placed under pressure, taking THE VERVE (App. E. Ljung), ROCK MODE (D. Simmons) and STARFIRE LADY (D. Evans) wider. Near the 50 metres BJORN again shifted out under pressure, resulting in THE VERVE having to be steadied and forced to shift in to avoid the heels of that runner.
Leaving the 600 metres ROSE OF TESSIE (C. Pye) hung in despite the efforts of its rider and inconvenienced STARFIRE LADY, which had to be checked. A post-race veterinary examination of ROSE OF TESSIE did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
At the 50 metres ROCK MODE (D. Simmons) had to be steadied off the heels of STARFIRE LADY (D. Evans), which shifted in slightly.
ROCK MODE (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of FAST BONNIE (M. Usher) revealed that the mare was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer A. Usher was advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to FAST BONNIE being permitted to race again.
App. K. Grace, the rider of TIS AWESOME, was reminded of his obligation under A.R.137A(3)(b), regarding the use of his whip in an action that raises his arm above shoulder height.
Race 7: Carlton United Breweries Class 2 Handicap – 1560 metres
1st SWING AND SING 2nd FEROCITY BLUE 3rd ARISTON 4th - SUPA MEGA DEADLY
Stewards questioned trainer M. Cochrane as to the seemingly improved performance of SWING AND SING (D. Evans). Mr Cochrane explained that at the mare’s most recent start it had been intended to lead, however when SWING AND SING failed to muster early speed the gelding was unable to obtain a forward position. Mr Cochrane added that today when there was a lack of early pace, the mare was able to obtain a forward position comfortably and in his opinion races better when ridden in that fashion.
ARISTON (M. Usher) was slow to begin.
At the 900 metres BROCHETTE (T. Bannon) commenced to over-race and was shifted out to avoid the heels of SWING AND SING (D. Evans), taking SAVASHA (A. Coome) wider. SAVASHA was then steadied, resulting in GLITZERLAND improving onto the heels of SAVASHA and losing ground. As a result of the incident SILVERZEN (App. A. Taylor) was also inconvenienced.
From the 600 metres SHUFFLES (L. Dillon) raced wide.
At the 500 metres GLITZERLAND shifted out to gain clear running, bumped FEROCITY BLUE and in doing so became unbalanced.
App. A. Taylor pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 200 metres she permitted SILVERZEN to shift out when insufficiently clear of SAVASHA (A. Coome), resulting in Jockey A. Coome having to check his mount to avoid the heels of SILVERZEN and lose his rightful running. App. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 5 SEQ meetings, to commence at midnight Saturday 8th June, up to and including midnight on 14th June 2013. In assessing penalty stewards took into account App. Talyor’s plea of guilty and her exceptionally good record in relation to careless riding.
Over the concluding stages FEROCITY BLUE (D. Hayes) was inclined to get in under pressure.
FEROCITY BLUE (D. Hayse) raced wide throughout.
Race 8: Samuel Smith & Son Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st DAPH ‘N’ ALF 2nd TYSON RULES 3rd MAROON BELLS 4th - DAHARA PRIZE
From rounding the home turn until near the 250 metres DUMUZI (L. Dillon) was held up and unable to find clear running.
