Race 2: Mackay Timber & Truss Halle Connor Memorial Maiden Plate - 1200 metres
1st HANDYMAN BOB 2nd ROCKET BILLY REBEL 3rd DENIS THE DUDE 4th - CHARLIE’S MOMENT

ROCKET BILLY REBEL (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

On jumping, IT’S LUNA CI (App. K. Aho) shifted in and away from WELL HELLO DOLLY (M. Usher) and crowded the running of HANDYMAN BOB (D. Missen), KELCHEZ (J. Felix) and CRAIGLEA MIDGET (T. O’Hara), which was taken in onto CHARLIE’S MOMENT (D. Hayse), which in turn was taken in onto NORTH SPUR (D. Evans), which had to be checked. A short distance after this IT’S LUNA CI was momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of WELL HELLO DOLLY, which shifted in abruptly.

In the early stages IT’S LUNA CI raced wide and therefore was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead.

Approaching the 900 metres KELCHEZ, which was inclined to race ungenerously, had to be steadied away from the heels of CLOUD DANCER (D. Simmons). KELCHEZ then continued to over-race for some distance.

On the point of the turn DENIS THE DUDE (M. Carson) shifted out slightly and bumped IT’S LUNA CI, which was taken out onto KELCHEZ.

Approaching the 200 metres App. K. Aho, the rider of IT’S LUNA CI, permitted her mount to shift out when not completely clear of KELCHEZ, which had to be steadied and alter course. Leaving the 200 metres IT’S LUNACY CI again shifted out slightly and inconvenienced KELCHEZ. App. Aho was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Passing the 200 metres CLOUD DANCER was inclined to lay in and away from DENIS THE DUDE (M. Carson).

DON’T THINK DO (T. O’Hara) and DE LA DILO (D. Missen) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding her riding of DON’T THINK DO, in particular from the 600 metres, Jockey T. O’Hara stated that she had been instructed to take up a forward position, if possible, however after beginning only fairly DON’T THINK DO was unable to muster early speed and consequently she elected to settle the gelding in a rearward position. Jockey O’Hara said that approaching the home turn a run became available to the outside of PROUD WARRIOR, however she was of the view that she would have had to cover too much extra ground and therefore elected to remain racing on the back of PROUD WARRIOR rather than improve to its outside. Jockey O’Hara added that after being held up in the early part of the straight she was able to obtain a clear run passing the 200 metres where DON’T THINK DO ran home well.
