OAKLEY AMATEUR PICNIC RACE CLUB INC STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 08/05/04. (DAY 2)STEWARDS PANEL: R.C.SMITH (Chairman), Ms M.STEHBENS. WEATHER - FINE, - TRACK, - -Dirt, FAST – NO RUNNING RAIL., Flag Starts in all races. BOOKMAKER - Mr. D.GLENDON fielded on local and southern events on this day. Veterinary Surgeon. Dr. J.HILL. RACE 1: KING & DOWLING RURAL RESTRICTED TROPHY 2, – W.F.A. 1200 Metres. 4 Starters. Near the 800 Metre mark Buttons ‘n’ Bows (M.HARRIS) who had been travelling on the outside of Puritan Man (B.BROWNING & Misson Man (D.OWENS) crossed those two runners when going forward and towards the inside running and in doing so slightly tightened those two runners. Jockey M.HARRIS was advised to ensure that he has at least a two clear lengths margin when crossing other runners, especially under the conditions in which this meeting is being conducted. Mission Man (D.OWENS) raced ungenerously for the first 300 metres of the event. RACE 2: INLAND BRAHMAN STUD MAIDEN PLATE – W.F.A. 1000 Metres.; 2 Starters. Yamado secured a run to the inside of Le DAZZLE at about the 700 metres. RACE 3: RICE FAMILY BRACELET – OPEN. W.F.A. 1600 Metres. 6 Starters. No Incidents. RACE 4: BARR FAMILY RESTRICTED TROPHY 4, W.F.A. 6 Starters. The Judges declared a dead heat for first between Creolasca (M.OATES) and Penny’s Sister (M.HARRIS). (No photo finish facilities are available at this track). However a video camera set up opposite the winning post (for such an instance as occurred in this race), was used by the Judges to assist them in making their decision. RACE 5: SUNCORP TROPHY - OPEN – (DIVISION Two) W.F.A. 1000 Metres. 6 Starters (This race was divided into two divisions after the number of acceptors exceeded the allowable number of starters). Goodbye Chief (F.ATHERON) remained at the start at the flag fall and took no part in the race. Delshin ( (R.HICK) lost approximately 100 metres at the start and make up considerable ground during the course of the race. The Two jockeys and the respective trainers of each horse, namely H.HUMPHRIES and D.BEAUCHAMP were interviewed. Each jockey advised their horse wanted no part of the race. Each trainer intimated the respective horses (Both eight year old geldings), would be retired from racing. RACE 6: SUNCORP TROPHY - OPEN – (DIVISION One) W.F.A. 1000 Metres. 6 Starters (This race was divided into two divisions after the number of acceptors exceeded the allowable number of starters). Propellor (J.KEARNEY) was unable to keep in touch with the remainder of the field soon after the start and lost considerable ground quickly and remained tailed off for the remainder of the race although it did make ground in the straight. Trainer Mr J.DELAHUNTY advised he has been unable to work his horses as much as he would have like this preparation owing to weather conditions. RACE 7: TANKS DIRECT TROPHY-OPEN- W.F.A. 1200 Metres. No incidents.RACE 8: TOWNSVILLE WELDING SUPPLIES RESTRICTED TROPHY 3, W.F.A.- 1000 Metres. A Promise (W.MITCHELL) lost considerable ground soon after the start for no apparent reason. Trainer Mr. C.TINDALL stated that the horse usually does not back up well on the second day of this type of meeting. Willy Told (D.OWENS) which was leading coming to the home turn ran wide on the turn thereby losing ground. GENERAL. All prizes in the form of trophies –Winners were not swabbed. One bookmaker operated at this meeting. Non T.A.B. Meeting. All horses engaged in the two day meeting were kept under close observations by Veterinary Surgeon Dr. J.HILL during the two day meeting.
