STEWARDS REPORT – MONDAY 7TH AUGUST 2000

GENERAL
As P. Moodie was indisposed due to injury the following replacements were approved:
Race 2 EVRY HANDOUT D. Lloyd
Race 3 RUSTIC GEM M. Goodwin
Race 4 ALBRED S. Quick
Race 5 GEORDINIA S. Quick
Race 6 PHAROS’ RULER M. Goodwin
As L. Roberts was indisposed due to transport difficulties the following replacements were approved:
Race 3 SPRING FOUNTAIN M. Stephens
Race 5 EDITH’S WAY M. Stephens
RACING:
RACE 1 CLASS 2 HCP. 1800 METRES - (5 STARTERS) C’MON LARI commenced to race fiercely in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion shifted out forcing PLAYTOY and REGENT GOLD wider on the track.
Rounding the 800 metre turn WARRANULLA shifted out and made contact with C’MON LARI. When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of C’MON LARI, C. Beets the jockey, stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle the wet conditions and compounded after being placed under pressure inside the 600 metre point. A post race vet examination of C’MON LARI failed to detect any abnormality.
RACE 2 CLASS 2 HCP. 1000 METRES - (9 STARTERS) LA CHANDON and LADY’S TOUCH came together at the start.
After jumping away OPERA BONNET shifted out and hampered KANTAGRY.
Leaving the 900 metre EVRY HANDOUT shifted out slightly and tightened KORUPSII and MISS DONCOUR onto LA CHANDON.
Approaching the 750 metres OPERA BONNET (J. Piper) shifted in despite the efforts of its rider and as a result tightened KORUPSII onto EVRY HANDOUT. As a result of this incident OPERA BONNET shifted out and after making contact with KANTAGRY shifted back in abruptly forcing KORUPSII to be checked off that runners heels. KORUPSII commenced to race fiercely for some distance and made the home turn awkwardly after racing up onto the heels of EVRY HANDOUT.
Inside the 200 metres OPERA BONNET shifted out and momentarily inconvenienced FINAL EXIT.
RACE 3 CLASS 1 HCP. 1200 METRES - (11 STARTERS) OCTOBER BLAZE jumped in at the start and hampered RUSTIC GEM.
On jumping away ENDURANCE and MAYBE MAGIC were tightened for room between NORPICK and SILVERANA both which jumped away awkwardly.
Trainer M. Cooney was fined the sum of $25 for presenting NORPICK to the saddling enclosure without blinkers.
RACE 4 CLASS 4 HCP 1200 METRES - (9 STARTERS) SOVEREIGN CHALICE and OVER THE ODDS were hampered at the start between IRISH CONNECTION and RIO PARK both of which jumped away awkwardly.
Rounding the first turn ALBRED shifted out and made contact with BEEN THERE’S BEST.
A post race vet examination of BEEN THERE’S BEST which compounded in the straight failed to reveal any abnormality.
M. Goodwin the rider of OVER THE ODDS was fined the sum of $25 for failing to weigh in as the fifth place getter.
RACE 5 MAIDEN PLATE HCP. 1300 METRES - (12 STARTERS) TILBA ROSE was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1200 metres OUR ZAC commenced to lay in and as a result crowded RULES THE WORLD onto MARY SOMETHING.
RULES THE WORLD raced in restricted room for some distance and as a result commenced to race ungenerously.
FEELING STRONG was forced to race wide throughout this event.
Rounding the home turn RULES THE WORLD raced awkwardly when being restrained off the heels of OUR ZAC.
GILT OF MORN was unable to obtain clear running in the straight until inside the final 100 metres.
A post race vet examination of FEELING STRONG failed to detect any abnormality.
RACE 6 OPEN HCP 1300 METRES - (8 STARTERS) MORE TODAY knuckled over at the start.
DIVIOT jumped inwards and made contact with FORMAL OFFER (NZ).
RODEO KID and WIDGEE GO came together as the gates opened.
RACE 7 CLASS 6 HCP 1300 METRES – (7 STARTERS): JUST BIZARRE and CARDINIA came together at the start.
Leaving the 1100 metres COMANCHE WARRIOR commenced to race fiercely when being restrained off the heels of CAUGHT ME. After becoming unbalanced when rounding the first turn COMANCHE WARRIOR continued to race fiercely in the middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of COMANCHE WARRIOR apprentice N. Evans stated that after placing his mount under pressure inside the final 200 metres the gelding dropped the bit and lost momentum quickly.
A post race vet examination of COMANCHE WARRIOR failed to detect any abnormality. Trainer D. Hansen advised stewards that in light of todays performance of COMANCHE WARRIOR in future he would enlist the services of a senior rider.
G. Booth the rider of MR. ZODIAC accidentally dropped his whip at the 200 metre mark.
BOOKMAKERS: 2 Bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
