Due to an unforseen problem Mitchell Rice was unable to ride TRIREME and was replaced by S Quick.
RACE 1: MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
DELQUILO (D Evans) jumped outwards coming into contact with POTENTIATE (A Lane).
CHIEF FLYING HORSE (S Galloway) jumped inwards coming into contact with MENTMORE LASS (M Barnham).
DEEP END (S Quick) slow into stride and shifted out when struck with the whip at about the 300 metres.
HIGHRON (B Appo) slowly away.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 HCP – 1100M
COMMANDANTE (L Timson) slowly away.
MOON JET (A Pattillo) jumped out coming into contact with SOPHIE’S LAD (S Galloway) that in turn shifted out onto SUNRISE ROAD (R Barone).
An inquiry was held into an incident shortly after straightening in which MOON JET (A Pattillo) was forced to take hold and change direction. J Stanley the rider of IT’S A RIPA was charged with careless riding, found guilty and suspended from riding in races from the 7th October up to and including the 11th October 2003.
RACE 3: CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M
D Evans the rider of second placed ELUSIVE DIAMOND requested a viewing of the video prior to correct weight being announced.
PRIVATE RILEY (L Timson) was struck over the head with the whip by B Appo the rider of MACGNOME at about the 75-metre mark. Stewards considered the matter to be accidental.
FACIAL (M Barnham) jumped outwards and TIMBALE (A Pattillo) jumped inwards causing CANNY FELLA (G Michaels) to be checked and lose ground.
CANNY FELLA (G Michaels) was disappointed for a run on two occasions over the concluding stages.
RACE 4: CLASS 4 HCP – 1200M
KOREKORE (N Evans) jumped out coming into contact with FLEET STREET (J Stephens) and POKOMO (M Goodwin) jumped inwards causing FLEET STREET to be checked and lose ground.
An enquiry was conducted into an incident at about the 900 metres in which SCARLET SARI (S Quick) had to be checked. Justin Stanley the rider of MY DANCING BOY was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in momentarily causing SCARLET SARI to be checked.
RACE 5: CLASS 5 H’CAP– 1100M
TINKER’S FANCY (A Lane) jumped in the air as the gates opened losing ground.
BUSTLER (B Appo) jumped outwards at the start.
GUNGADIN (M Unwin) hung in early in the race and then shifted out over the concluding stages.
RACE 6: OPEN H’CAP (BRACELET) – 1200M
BRASSY JIM (D Evans) disappointed for a run on two occasions in the straight. When questioned regarding his riding instructions on that horse, D Evans stated that although he had been instructed to come wide in the straight he had been unable to place his mount in that position due to his being trapped inside horses from about the 600 metres. Stewards advised Evans to make a greater effort in future to carry out his instructions.
BALLANULLY (P Saunders) was slowly away.
WITH CAUSE (G Evans) jumped outwards coming into contact with CAPANNELLE (J Stephens).
D Simmons was reprimanded for his celebratory gesture passing the post.
RACE 7: CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1600M
As he was feeling the effects of a knee injury suffered at Bundamba on the 2nd October 2003, A Pattillo declared himself unable to take the mount on HUMPTY DOO HARRY and was replaced by N Evans.
SIMON WATCH (A Lane) struck the fence of its own accord at about the 800 metres.
CAREFUL LOVE (G Michaels) jumped in the air as the gates opened losing ground.
In the middle stages of the race CAREFUL LOVE was forced to race wide.
TOUGH AS NAILS bled for the first time during the race.
RACE 8: CLASS 6 HCP – 1400M
TYCOON TED (A Lane) shifted out on the home turn coming into contact with BURLY MAN (D Simmons). The incident was considered to be accidental.
EIGHT (8) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
