Race 1: CITY PRINTING WORKS CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1812m
1st Night Cat 2nd Gremmo 3rd Glen Brigton 4th- Dubaione

Stewards considered an objection which was lodged by A. Coome, the rider of 2nd placegetter GREMMO, alleging interference over the concluding stages against first past the post NIGHT CAT (C. Priest). After taking evidence from both riders and viewing the patrol film, it was established that whilst NIGHT CAT shifted out marginally under pressure over the concluding stages, this did not interfere with GREMMO to a degree which would warrant a reversal of the placings and therefore the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

TESTA HEART (C. McIver) was slow to begin and raced wide during the early stages.

GLEN BRIGTON (A. Taylor) had to be checked at the start when tightened for room between HOT FLUSHES (J. Kropp) and NIGHT CAT, which shifted in.

TAN TAT DANCER (D. Missen) overraced for a short distance leaving the 1600m.

DUBAIONE (K. Cross) raced wide for the majority of the event.

LUSSORIAN (B. Looker) hung out rounding the home turn.

D. Missen, the rider of TAN TAT DANCER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 500m he allowed TAN TAT DANCER to shift in, resulting in TESTA HEART being tightened on to the hind quarters of GLEN BRIGTON, which resulted in GLEN BRIGTON making contact with the hind quarters of HOT FLUSHES. As a result, GLEN BRIGTON was turned sideways and shifted out resulting in TESTA HEART being severely tightened for room and having to be checked. D. Missen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 Central Queensland race meetings, from midnight on Saturday, 2 October, 2010, up to and including midnight on Saturday, 9 October, 2010.

Stewards sought an explanation from D. Missen for the performance of TAN TAT DANCER, which performed below market expectations. Jockey Missen stated that in his opinion the horse handled the rain-affected conditions, however proved disappointing in the run to the line and could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of TANTAT DANCER revealed a minor laceration to the off hind leg.

Apprentice S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RED SAVANNAH (B. Looker), which resulted in that horse being checked and shifting out, hampering JETON (A. Taylor), DANE KING and JEROBOAM and forcing all of those runners wider on the track. As a result of this, JETON and DANE KING raced wide from this point onwards. App. S. Sheargold’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 Central Queensland race meetings, from midnight on Thursday, 23 September, 2010, up to and including midnight on Saturday, 2 October, 2010.

BEENOBLE (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 600m ROYAL SON (M. Speers) shifted in abruptly, making contact with the running rail.

Pye, the rider of MOON GUIDE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that when approaching the 100m she failed to stop riding and alter course to avoid the heels of the tiring READY RIPPER, which resulted in her mount being severely checked from the heels of that gelding and losing considerable ground. Ms Pye’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 Central Queensland race meetings, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 28 September, 2010, up to and including Thursday, 7 October, 2010.

A post-race veterinary examination of READY RIPPER (J. Stephens), which lost ground quickly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer C. Large advised stewards that in light of today’s performance he would experiment in track work with the use of a tongue tie.
