Race 1: XXXX Gold Class 4 Handicap- 1811 metres
1st Sir Van Tees 2nd Che Casino 3rd Donostia 4th- Jestrossa

Trainer M. Barnham was fined $100 for failing to declare the late gear change of blinkers off for SIR VAN TEES.

CHE CASINO (T. O'Hara) jumped in the air at the start and began awkwardly, losing some ground.

Near the 300m, CHE CASINO shifted out to obtain clear running.

Stewards afforded A. Coome the opportunity to explain the performance of JESTAROSSA. He stated that although the gelding travelled well and settled comfortably, the horse was not suited by the pace of the race and when placed under pressure, JESTAROSSA failed to respond to his riding as it did at its previous start. Stewards will interview trainer S. Kendrick regarding the performance of JESTAROSSA.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of SIR VAN TEES, trainer M. Barnham explained that at its previous start blinkers had been added in an effort to have the gelding lead, however it had continued its trait of being slow to begin and was unsuited by the distance on that occasion. Mr Barnham further added that in his opinion SIR VAN TEES raced best when able to race in a forward position.

Race 2: Rockhampton Jockey Club Class 3 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st Feuer Drache 2nd Craiglea Gal 3rd Maricopa 4th- Galaxy Stalker

Pending any further submissions, a $100 fine will be imposed on trainer A. Albert for presenting GALAXY STALKER to the enclosure without winkers. A public announcement was made to this effect.

GALAXY STALKER (J. King), which had been fractious in the enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

GALAXY STALKER began awkwardly.

When questioned regarding MARICOPA being positioned towards the rear of the field, jockey A. Coome stated that he rode the gelding along in the early and middle stages however it failed to stretch out, and when placed under pressure near the 600m, MARICOPA had responded and found the line well. A post race veterinary examination of MARICOPA revealed the gelding to be significantly lame and was possibly sore over the hind quarters. Trainer J. Pointon will be advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for MARICOPA prior to its next race start.

On return to scale, jockey B. Stewart reported that the breast plate had broken on CRAIGLEA GAL and the saddle had slipped back slightly in running.

Race 3: Become a Member of RJC C&G Class 2 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Falon Terror 2nd Dunkit 3rd Frankie Me Boy 4th- Craiglea Cobra

FOUAREE (B. Stewart) was slow to begin.

DUNKIT (L. Dillon) and CRAIGLEA COBRA (D. Tanti) began awkwardly.

Near the 650m, FRANKIE ME BOY (A. Taylor) raced in restricted room to the inside of CRAIGLEA COBRA, and near the 600m laid out and had to be steadied.

HOMBRE WARRIOR (T. O’Hara) and EL MIRAGE (S. Sheargold) raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey L. Dillon regarding his reason for failing to take advantage of a run to the outside of CRAIGLEA COBRA leaving the 550m when there appeared an opportunity to do so. Jockey Dillon explained that while it had been his intention to position the horse into clear running at this stage of the race, he had difficulty in doing so as the gelding had lay in at this point. He added that near the 400m when that run was no longer available, he was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running. Stewards noted the explanation.

Trainer D. Stafford reported that EL MIRAGE had sustained a laceration to the off hind leg. Stewards will seek an explanation from Mr Stafford regarding the immediate racing future given the gelding’s poor performances at its 3 previous starts this preparation.

Race 4: XXXX Summer Bright Class 6 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st Jenelle 2nd Mundi Gully 3rd Streetfire 4th- Left Behind

From the 900m until near the 600m, TURF MUSIC (A. Pattillo) laid out, resulting in jockey A. Pattillo becoming unbalanced.

WEST GINDIAN (S. Sheargold) raced wide for the majority of the event.

STREETFIRE (B. Stewart) raced 3 wide throughout.

Stewards afforded jockey A. Coome the opportunity to explain the performance of LEFT BEHIND. Jockey Coome stated that the gelding didn’t travel well throughout the race and when placed under pressure near the 400m had responded fairly however did not sprint in its customary manner. A post race veterinary examination of LEFT BEHIND failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, however the gelding exhibited a slower than normal post recovery rate.

J. Stanley reported that he was obliged to race wide throughout on PEGUNNY SPUR and the horse also raced greenly in running.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Taylor in relation to her instructions on BOTH. Apprentice Taylor explained while she had been instructed to position the gelding in a handy position with cover, however as it hadn’t begun well, the gelding settled further back in the field than anticipated.

A post race veterinary examination of DUAN HAPPY LASS revealed the filly to be exhibiting some signs of mild tying up in the hind quarters.

A. Pattillo, rider of TURF TSAR, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as the 5th placegetter.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer F. Smith and A. Suli for the late declaration of rider for BACKSTAGE AFFAIR and GASPARA respectively..

At the request of trainer L. Rowe, HOT SHOT SISTER was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey D. Tanti and Mr J. Rundle, trainer of the 4th placegetter, AUSTANA, to view the photo-finish of the race for 3rd. After doing so, correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

BEEBEE’S LAST (J. King) reared prior to the start and jumped away extremely awkwardly.

BACKSTAGE AFFAIR (N. Evans) reared and jumped outwards at the start, and hampered INTO THE DEEP (A. Race 7: XXXX Bitter F&M Class 2 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Hidden Rewards 2nd Monnie 3rd Glendale Magic 4th- Bankers Daughter

CALLY GREENLAKE (A. Pattillo), which was fractious in the gates, jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering GLENDALE MAGIC (N. Patchett) which lost some ground.

DIVINE CITY (A. Taylor) was a little slow to begin.

Near the 700m, DIVINE CITY improved onto the heels of GLENDALE MAGIC (N. Patchett) and shifted out, which bumped LAYLA (D. Tanti), which was taken out, and caused LOUISA’S DREAM (S. Sheargold) to be forced out across the heels of BANKERS DAUGHTER (T. O'Hara).

BANKERS DAUGHTER raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from A. Taylor regarding the performance of DIVINE CITY. Apprentice Taylor stated that the filly, which was having its first start from a spell, had performed well. She added the filly had been placed under pressure in the early stages of the straight, and DIVINE CITY was inclined to lay in near the 200m but responded to her riding and found the line well. A. Taylor added that, in her opinion, the filly performs best when able to get clear running to the outside, however was not able to do so in today’s event.
