Jockey Kropp stated that in accordance with the instructions given to him when he rode the gelding at it previous start he was to take up a middle to rear position. Jockey Kropp said, however, that as the horse had drawn the outside barrier and had over-raced, he was left with no alternative other than to lead. Jockey Kropp noted that in his opinion FEROCITY BLUE was not suited by the 2200 metres of today's race.

1st SILKY WARRIOR 2nd SMART’N’STRONG 3rd CLICK UP 4th - RARE FIND
Following the running of this race, Stewards downgraded the track rating to a DEAD (5)
When App. P. Keane was incorrectly notified as the rider of SILKY WARRIOR, stewards permitted App. D. McWhinney to be substituted.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Missen as to the performance of MOICHEIA. Jockey Missen stated that he was of the opinion that there would be a strong pace in the event and accordingly he had anticipated being able to race handy with cover. However, MOICHEIA did not travel well early and was placed under pressure earlier than had been expected. Jockey Missen added that when placed under pressure near the 600 metres the horse responded to his riding fairly, but did not sprint as he had expected.
Jockey N. Patchett (RARE FIND) was fined $100 under A.R. 137A (5) in that he used his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

1st DR ICHI 2nd JAVELENTIA 3rd BAGABOB 4th - PRINCELY
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer T. Cook for the late engagement of Jockey J. P. Stanley as the rider of PRINCELY.
Correct weight was delayed to allow Trainer C. Dore and Jockey D. Tanti to view the patrol film to ensure DOREBOY was afforded a fair start. After doing so, both parties were satisfied and did not wish to proceed with any application.
Also, Apprentice A. Hearn viewed the photo finish print for first. Apprentice Hearn was satisfied and Stewards declared correct weight.
DOREBOY (D. Tanti), which had been standing awkwardly in the barriers, was slow to begin.
At the start IN THE GENES (J. Bowditch) jumped out onto PRINCELY (J. P. Stanley) and when corrected, shifted in and made heavy contact with BAGABOB (J. Kropp).

App. Keane stated that the colt had raced erratically when obliged to race among runners in the field and consequently failed to stretch out when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of QFIGHTER revealed the horse had a mild case of the thumps, minor lacerations to the near hind cannon and abrasions to the off hind bumper.
