As jockey J. Baker was injured, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. J. Baker was directed to provide a medical clearance before riding again.

Race 1: Roma Vet Clinic Maiden Plate 1000m

Correct weight was delayed for stewards to consider an application by the connections of GLORY ME for that mare to be declared a non-runner. After taking evidence from apprentice N. Morton, trainer’s representative M. Patterson and viewing the official patrol footage, stewards found that while the barrier of GLORY ME was marginally slow to open, they were satisfied that it did not materially effect the chances of that runner finishing in first, second or third placing. Stewards therefore declared GLORY ME a runner and gave correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers.

Shortly after the start OGGIE (B. Powell) shifted out abruptly inconveniencing RINGING RUPERT (L. Appo) which shifted out forcing GLORY ME wider on the track.

CALL ME CARLOS (M. O’Brien) was inclined to laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: Churchie/St Margaret Open Handicap 1000m

SARSGHI (Q. Krogh) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

LA CLOISSONE (N. Morton) turned its head as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.

Race 3: Roma Gas Supplies Rugby Slipper QTIS 2YO Handicap 1000m

Trainer M. Goodwin was fined $100 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time placing blinkers on MISS AMABELLA.

LA TENZA (S. Apthorpe) blundered on jumping away and lost significant ground.

MADAM PINK (Q. Krogh) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

MADAM PINK which had the presence of blood in the off side nostril following the running of this event, underwent a post-race veterinary examination, which found the blood was coming from a superficial wound inside the nostril. After interviewing apprentice Q. Krogh who reported that MADAM PINK had made contact with its head in the barrier gates and considering the report from the veterinary surgeon, stewards could not be satisfied that the presence of blood was a result of a bleeding attack, and therefore took no further action.

Race 4: The Southport School Class 3 Handicap 1200m

MAGIC GLENYCE (L. Tilley) was crowded for room shortly after the start between RED BULL (M. Abe) and ROYAL REWARD (J. Brand) and as a result lost ground.

MASTER FARALON (M. McGillivray) and MAGIC GLENYCE raced wide throughout.

When questioned in relation to the disappointing performance of MAGIC GLENYCE, apprentice L. Tilley stated that after settling back in the field his mount hung out rounding the first turn and was not comfortable on today’s track surface. A post veterinary examination of MAGIC GLENYCE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: John Paul College Benchmark 55 Handicap 1640m

Jockey C. Bryen was fined $100 for negligently sending out the incorrect saddle cloth number for FIDESDI. Trainer’s representative S. Watkins was fined $100 for negligently saddling FEDESDI with the incorrect saddle cloth number.

COMMANDER BOLTZ (M. Abe) began awkwardly.

MONSIEUR MONTPELIER (M. O’Brien) and FIDESDI were slow to begin.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ASTRO NASCENTE (L. Appo) which was overracing was steadied when PURE SUNSET (S. Apthorpe) shifted in. ASTRO NASCENTE when being steadied then shifted in tightening the running of DON’T WALK AWAY (B. Powell) which brushed the running rail and became awkward, a short distance later ASTRO NASCENTE shifted out and when being steadied from the heels of PURE SUNSET shifted out further and inconvenienced FIDESDI (C. Bryen) which shifted out and away from that runner. While this incident was of significance, stewards noted the racing manners of ASTRO NACENTE as a considerable factor in the matter and while no direct action was taken, jockey S. Apthorpe was nonetheless advised to exercise care in all circumstances when shifting ground.

ASTRO NASCENTE overraced from shortly after the start until near the 1200m.

M. O’Brien, the rider of MONSIEUR MONTPELIER, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as fourth placegetter.

When asked to comment on the performance of GRAND SUITE, apprentice L. Tilley stated that the gelding travelled well throughout, however was under pressure from the 600m and failed to respond to his riding.

When asked to comment on the performance of ASTRO NASCENTE, rider L. Appo stated that his mount overraced in the early stages and was not entirely comfortable on today’s track surface, adding that his mount failed to respond to his riding from approaching the home turn.
