Race 1: HOT 91.1 MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
1st – Publican George 2nd – Rapid Kingdom 3rd – Made ‘N’ Ready 4th – Just Ready
As D. Browne was to be overweight, K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of AN EYE FOR AN EYE. D. Browne was issued with a reprimand. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account D. Browne’s previous good record in regard to weight-related matters.
The start of this race was delayed when MISS SANDREINE (S. Arnold) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Connections were advised that the mare must officially barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.
The start was further delayed when both MADE 'N' READY (J. Holder) and BENJI BULLET (N. Thomas) proved difficult to load. Trainers M. Kropp (MADE 'N' READY) and M. Mair (BENJI BULLET) were advised that they would have to obtain two further barrier certificates for their respective runners prior to their next start.
At the start EYEFORIT (L. Finlay) was severely tightened for room and lost ground between AN EYE FOR AN EYE (K. Wharton) and PUBLICAN GEORGE (P. Hammersley), which shifted in.
DYNAMIC JACK (M. Gray) was slow to begin.
JUST READY (A. Pattillo), MISS SANDREINE and BENJI BULLET raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from K. Wharton regarding the below market expectation performance of AN EYE FOR AN EYE. Jockey Wharton stated that after travelling well early in a favourable position the horse failed to respond when asked to improve into the race leaving the 600m. He was of the opinion that this could be attributed to the horse resenting kickback from the other runners and added that the horse would be more suited to races over more ground. Trainer S. Mackinnon agreed with jockey Wharton’s assessment. A post-race veterinary examination of AN EYE FOR AN EYE revealed no abnormalities.
Following his ride in this event jockey A. Pattillo was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club doctor and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 2: HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Rose Of Tessie 2nd – Shelovestorocket 3rd – Ouzo On The Rocks 4th – Just A Rockstar
The start of this race was delayed as A. Pattillo had weighed out prior to being stood down by the Club doctor. As a result JUST A ROCKSTAR had to be resaddled and P. Wolfgram substituted as the rider.
WISKWILA (L. Finlay), which was slow to begin, hung in and was steadied from the heels of ROSE OF TESSIE (O. Turpin) at a point near the 800m.
WOOLGAR ROAD (K. Wharton), which was considerably slow to begin, then raced greenly throughout and hung out from the 800m until entering the home straight. Trainer G. Hickmott was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
Stewards sought an explanation from D. Browne regarding the below market expectation performance of MISHANI ACE. He stated that after being fractious in the barriers, the horse began awkwardly and when back in the field, bearing in mind it was having its first start, was reluctant to race amongst other horses and resented the kickback. He added that the horse continued to race greenly throughout and hung in in the straight. Trainer R. Wilson was advised that the gelding must officially barrier trial prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination of MISHANI ACE revealed no abnormalities.
Race 3: RACE DAY FUNCTIONS @ SCTC CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Lemieux 2nd – I’m Busy 3rd – Charsui 4th – Ice Apple
TICKLE THE KITTY (Michael Palmer), LEMIEUX (K. Pope), SPECKLED SHINING (E. Wilkinson) and CHARSUI (A. Kitson) all became awkward when tightened for room between ICE APPLE (N. Thomas) and I’M BUSY (K. Wharton), which shifted out abruptly at the start.
Near the 1300m LEMIEUX was forced to steady and shift out across the heels of METAPHYSICAL (A. Spinks), which was taken in at that point by SWIFT CASH (T. Harrison), which shifted in. Apprentice T. Harrison was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
LEMIEUX overraced during the early stages.
ICE APPLE was held up between the 500m and the 400m.
Stewards inquired into the performance and tactics adopted on CHARSUI (A. Kitson). Of particular concern to stewards was that at a point approaching the 1200m when the pace of the race steadied, there appeared opportunity for apprentice Kitson, when caught in a three-wide position, to push forward to take the lead which would have afforded her running closer to the fence, however Ms Kitson remained in a three-wide position outside the lead. Apprentice Kitson stated that she had been instructed to take up a forward position behind the lead if possible, however it became apparent to her that at a point near the 1200m she was going to be unable to obtain cover and elected to settle the horse in a three-wide position outside the lead. She further stated that with hindsight it would have been, in her opinion, a better option to have pressed forward at that point to assume the lead. Trainer M. Lakey confirmed the instructions issued to apprentice Kitson and added that he agreed that it would have been in the best interests of CHARSUI if apprentice Kitson had pressed forward leaving the 1200m. Stewards advised apprentice Kitson that she had, in their opinion, erred at this point of the event however, given her relative inexperience as an apprentice, took no further action.
Race 4: YALUMBA WINES OPEN H’CAP - 1000m
1st – County Sherrif 2nd – Little McCall 3rd – Allervite 4th – Stop Lying
Trainer J. McLachlan advised that SILVERN (E. Wilkinson), which has been disappointing lately, would be ridden more aggressively today. The horse was ridden accordingly.
LITTLE MCCALL (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.
STOP LYING (P. Wolfgram) hung in throughout the event, obliging its rider to stop riding at a point near the 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation from E. Wilkinson regarding the below market expectation performance of SILVERN. Jockey Wilkinson stated that he had been instructed to lead, however he was forced to apply heavy pressure to the horse in order to obtain a position outside the lead and that the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage throughout the event and was under pressure again from the 600m and failed to run on. Trainer J. McLachlan stated that he may look at stepping SILVERN up over more ground in an attempt to have the horse obtain the lead without having to be pressured during the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SILVERN revealed no significant findings.
Stewards questioned N. Thomas regarding the performance of JOHNNIEONTHEROCKS. He stated that he was forced to pressure the horse throughout the event to keep in touch with the remainder of the field and the horse proved disappointing and he could offer not explanation for the performance. Trainer J. McLachlan confirmed his disappointment in the performance and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have affected the performance.
Race 5: GT PRINT MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Chevallum Park 2nd – Justaz 3rd – Spur Point 4th – Tristyn
T. Hall, trainer of TRISTYN, was fined $100 for being negligent in failing to correctly engage jockey D. Browne to rider that mare. D. Browne was subsequently replaced by A. Pattillo, and when A. Pattillo was stood down by the Club doctor he was replaced by O. Turpin.
As apprentice B. Wallace was ill, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of BOUGG.
The start of this race was delayed when DON’T DEFIER (P. Hammersley) proved difficult to load. Trainer L. Birchley’s representative was advised that the horse must obtain two further barrier certificates prior to its next start.
JUSTAZ (K. Gates) and AMANDAS GRACE (K. Wharton) both jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact.
DON’T DEFIER jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of CHEVALLUM PARK (E. Wilkinson) and a short distance later shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of SEQUOIA ROSE (T. Harrison).
RUTHLESS BABE (J. Hoopert) and BOUGG (A. Spinks) were both tightened for room at the start between SEQUOIA ROSE and SPUR POINT (N. Thomas) which shifted in. RUTHLESS BABE was forced to check as a result of this incident.
For a short distance leaving the 1100m PHIL DOESN'T CARE (J. Bowditch) was forced to overrace at the heels of SPUR POINT.
BOUGG, CHEVALLUM PARK and MR LUBBA LUBBA (D. McWhinney) all raced wide throughout.
BOUGG, after being caught wide early, was ridden forward during the middle stages to obtain a position outside the lead approaching the 800m.
A. Spinks (BOUGG), when rounding the home turn, dropped his whip and it became lodged between his leg and the horse. Jockey Spinks regained his whip at a point approaching the 300m.
JUSTAZ hung out throughout the event. Trainer G. Moon was advised that JUSTAZ must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next start.

KONG KRISTIAN (D. Browne) was held up for clear running for a short distance near the 500m.
LANGTIME (A. Kitson) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and again at a point near the 200m.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of SIR MOSSMAN, trainer J. Walk stated that he had expected a forward showing today as in his opinion the horse appreciates racing on the synthetic surface and also was suited to the step up to 1600m. Stewards noted the comments.
Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley regarding the below market expectation performance of MAZUMAH. He stated that after being slow to begin he was tightened for room between LADY OF SPAIN (N. Thomas) and CROWN THE WARRIOR which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out and as a result was forced to ride the horse in a rearward position and this had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. He added that whilst the horse was held up at a crucial point leaving the 600m, he was of the view that the overall performance was disappointing and advised the stable that in his opinion the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Stable representative Ms M. Leitch confirmed that the horse would be sent for a spell and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have affected the performance.
Race 7: REED PROPERTY GROUP CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1100m

FAMOUS CRY (T. Huxham) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 900m DETECTED (Michael Palmer) was steadied when tightened for room between SWELL (E. Wilkinson) and MILLHOUSEN which shifted in. As a result of this incident DETECTED resented being restrained and raced with its head in the air for a short distance, losing ground.
Near the 800m FELONY FLIGHT (P. Wolfgram), BUBBLED (K. Wharton) and NO BRAINER (J. Bowditch) all made the turn at this point of the race awkwardly and as a result NO BRAINER was forced out across the heels of MILLHOUSEN and had to be severely checked.
MILLHOUSEN, NO BRAINER, DETECTED and SWELL all raced wide throughout.
FAMOUS CRY (T. Huxham) and BUBBLED both had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.
